    Summer Training Activities

Each summer, Go Gold offers its cadets several extra training opportunities. This summer, the Battalio

had cadets attend the Cultural Understanding and Language Proficiency Program (CULP), Cadet Field

Training (CFT), Cadet Troop Leading Training Program (CTLT), and Nurse Summer Training Program

    (NSTP).

This year, we sent five cadets around the world on different CULP trips. CDT Andrew Hall went to

Thailand, CDT Leah Schofield went to Indonesia, CDT Christopher Colletta went to Vietnam, CDT Chel

McMahon went to Tunisia, and CDT Jessica Sanders went Tanzania. The goal of the CULP program is t

Cadets partake in a multitude of activities during the program. From teaching foreign military person

English to mission trips to help civilian populations in the region, cadets in the CULP program are face

with many diverse people and situations. Pictured left is CDT Schofield in Indonesia.

Cadet Chelsea McMahon (pictured below, upper right) traveled to Tunisia this summer, spending thre

weeks teaching English classes at the Tunisian Naval Academy. Throughout her time there, she got th

chance to interact with both cadets and instructors of the Tunisian Navy. She says, With the recent

governmental transformations occurring in Tunisia, it was a unique experience being able to witness

firsthand. Going there through CULP allowed me the opportunity to create friendships with the men a

women who were on the frontlines during their revolution something I would have never gotten to

    experience otherwise.

CDT Christopher Colletta had the privilege of being one of the first American, uniformed military

personnel in Vietnam since the Vietnam War. About his experiences, he says, I found it especially

interesting to compare my time in Vietnam with my other CULP trips to Taiwan and China. Overall, I c

Also this summer CDT David Bradley attended Cadet Field Training (CFT) at West Point. CDT Bradley

encountered several different training opportunities in various fields. He learned tactical combat casu

care, weapon familiarization with multiple weapons, urban operations with l ive fire exercises, small u

leader development, and even got to experience a mortar range first hand. About his experience, CDT

Cadet Troop Leading Training (CTLT) allows a Cadet to shadow a lieutenant, granting them the

opportunity to see what a PL does on a daily basis. This year, four cadets took part in the CTLT progra

(Cadets John Rice, John Schara, Alok Patel, and Trent Einstein).

The Nurse Summer Training Program (NSTP) is a 3-week program in which nurses get hands on

experience in the field under one-on-one supervision. CDT Jessica Sanders attended the program this

    summer.
