Coach Saban QuotesGeneral Game Comments“First off, I’m really proud of the way ourplayers competed in the game. LSU has agood football team, especially defensively. They had seven sacks in the game, and alot of pressures. There were times when wedidn’t have anywhere to throw it, and thentimes when we did have somewhere tothrow and didn’t get it there. They have anoutstanding team, but we didn’t do asgood of a job at executing the way weneeded to, to be able to have success atwhat we need to do to get the job done.”

“In terms of being able to pass protect,LSU made the plays they had to make towin. I was really pleased with the way ourplayers competed, but the fact is we didn’tplay with a lot of consistency on offense. We made some big plays, but didn’t havethe consistency that we needed.

“The big message is the 24-hour rulearound here. We need to not be hung overabout this game. We need to learn fromthis game, improve and play better in thefuture. That’s what we need to do; that’swhat we need to focus on and go fromthere.”

On LSU’s game“We did take advantage of making somebig plays because of the way LSU played, but we also made some errors. They playeda lot of split safety coverage and blitzes. Weneeded to do a better job as coaches to giveour players a better chance to be successful. We, as coaches, needed to get them in bet-ter position to make the plays.”

On LSU’s players“It’s like playing against someone who is inyour family. I wish them well and like tosee them doing well. I am proud to seehow some of them developed into success-ful young men, and I want to watch themcontinue to be successful in their lives. That feeling for them just doesn’t go away. After the first play, it wasn’t an issue in the

game. They focused on what they had todo and it was nice to say ‘hi’ to them after-wards.

“I wished Coach well, wished them luck. Ifanyone is going to have success in the SEC,I wish it for them and want to see them dowell. If it’s not going to be us, it might aswell be them.”

On playing with discipline“Sometimes there’s no consequence untilyou do it against someone who is equal orbetter than you. And there will always be aconsequence. If we want to beat a team likewe played tonight, we need to have a betterpremium on doing better all the time withconsistency. I thought special teams did agreat job, and number eight is a greatreturn man. Javier made a lot of great playsfor us.”

On Keith Brown“Keith had a great game. He had a chanceto make a big play at the end of the gamethat would have given us a chance to score. He got popped pretty well and the ball fell.He had an opportunity to catch it and hedidn’t.”

Player QuotesDarren Mustin“We just couldn’t finish the little things. Ithurts pretty bad but you can’t have a hang-over from this for the whole season. Wehave to get our stuff together and learnfrom this over the next 24 hours and getready for the next few games we have.”

On LSU’s offensive line:“They were pretty tough. They were prob-ably one of the best we’ve seen all year. They were a typical SEC line – big, power-ful, and strong. I think our up-front guysdid a very good job. They put pretty goodpressure on the quarterback. I don’t thinkthey had as many rushing yards. They hada couple big plays but I think up front theydid a good job of stopping and containingthem.”

Javier ArenasOn how they were able to come back afterbeing down 17-3:“We were real positive. We knew what weare capable of. We knew the mistakes wewere making. Like I said, it was what wedid not because of what they did. Weknew that we just had to make thoseadjustments as far as mental and physical-ly. We knew we had to make the rightplays and do the right things. We did justthat and it happened. We came back.”

On following the 24 hour rule:“All of them (losses) are tough to comeback from. Losing the game is tough.Losing or winning, it’s always tough. When you’re happy you celebrate and it’shard to get back on track and focus on thenext game. Winning or losing, it is toughto get back and get focused.”

Keith Brown“We take games one game at a time. Weknew it was important for our coach but itwas more important to us as players. Goout there and win the game. As you know, things didn’t go our way.”

“I mean, we play one play at a time. Everyplay has its own history. We just play ourgame. We just have to execute. Those guysmade great plays. We have great receiverswho can make great plays. That was ourthought the whole game. They would getup and it was like ‘Let’s go answer thephone and go back out there and do whatwe do best’. It was just a great game allaround.”

On first touchdown catch:“It was supposed to split a zone. It wasmore like a two trap I guess. The guy thatwas covering me was inside. The safetywas on top outside. I just made a greatdouble move and the ball was in there airand it was mine. That’s all I know.”

John Parker WilsonOn being close to victory, but coming upshort:“It was tough. We made some good plays, but we just didn’t make enough. We hadour chances; we had plenty of chances towin, but we just didn’t make the plays. They made plays. They are a good defense. We just have to go back and look at whatwe did good and obviously we did a lot ofthings that were not good, but it was atough game and like I said we had achance to win, we just didn’t do it.”

On not worrying about winning the gamefor Coach Saban:“No, we could care less about that. It wasprobably more of an issue for their playersbecause he coached and recruited some ofthem, but it wasn’t really on our minds.”

Wallace GilberryOn the performance of Javier Arenas:“His heart definitely outweighs his size. Wethrew him into the fire so to speak ondefense, and he held his ground. Most peo-ple see him as nothing but a punt returnerwhich he does tremendous as well, and Ibelieve that once he has some time to sitback, take everything in and learn fromwhat happened, he’s going to be prettygood at the corner position.”

On this game not being bigger because ofCoach Saban:“We knew that going in; I knew that but tohear him say that to us let us know that itwas serious. It wasn’t about him; it wasdefinitely about us, and what we did anddidn’t do determined the outcome of thegame.”

On causing three turnovers:“It was big. It was definitely big at the time, but a loss is a loss. I could sit here andmake tons of excuses, but that’s not reallywhat it’s all about. We didn’t execute andwe lost our mental focus at times, and theytook advantage of it.”

Rashad JohnsonAssessing secondary play for Alabama:“I think we played fairly well, but as alwayswe are going to go in and look at the tape, and there are going to be some correctionsto make, things we all did wrong. We gaveup some plays in the secondary thatnobody’s happy about. We just need towork on those things for next week.”

On the 4th and 4 touchdown for LSU:”I think they might have had a busted callbecause the tight end and the receiver whocaught the ball, Early (Doucet), both ranin-routes from opposite sides. I was cover-ing the tight end and when I saw the ballthrown I thought he might knock it down, but Early made a great catch then made adefender miss and scored.”

Head Coach Les Miles Quotes

Opening Statement:“We had a number of opportunities towin and the opponent had the samenumber of opportunities, and we justhave to win it one more time than theopponent and that is what we did today.I don’t know if I have been around agame where we have played this poorly- and made mistake after mistake and, yet, come out with a victory. Here iswhat you have to do to give credit toour team. One, we are going to have toundergo some serious analyzing by ourcoaching staff or get after their tails.Secondly, they’ve got to resolve andcompose and work hard at it. We needto correct some mistakes and improveand, if we do, this team can be some-thing special. That is the task at hand. Idon’t know if we have played this poor-ly but, if we are going to play this poor-ly, it’s good to win.”

On Four Straight Wins“This team is supposed to do it thatway. I like it. Give Alabama some credit, they are a talented team, there is noth-ing wrong with that team. We can’tmake mistakes. We have to distanceourselves from our opponents and notgive them 130 yards in penalties.”

LSU PLAYER QUOTES

Matt Flynn #15 (QB)On the three interceptions…“We were having success throwing theball during those three interceptions. It’snot like they were completely stoppingus. We just threw a couple of bad plays.I know I was seeing the defense. I neverlacked confidence. It doesn’t matter ifsomething good happens or somethingbad happens you just have to play. Youjust have to forget about it and keepreading the plays.”

On this LSU team…“This team is just tough. We’ve got somany older guys and so many leaderson this team that they just come outthere every day and work hard. It does-n’t matter what’s happening in thegame, they just overcome adversity andfind plays. I’ve said it before - I’m justextremely glad to be a part of thisteam.”

Chevis Jackson # 21 (RCB)On the win…“It means a lot to get this win. We beatAlabama and Auburn this year. Anytime we play Alabama it’s a battle. Wehad a lot of mistakes there at the endbut we played well enough to come outwith a win.”

On his play this year…“I give the credit to the coaches and theplayers. We just come out and playevery day. We have a lot on the line thisyear and we’re just trying to win it all.”

On the BCS standings…“We try not to look at anything likethat. Coach (Miles) tells us that it does-n’t matter where you’re at right now, itmatters where you’re at at the end of theseason. We really don’t pay much atten-tion to that right now.”
