Last Time Out vs. Erie November 18, 2016 8-3 W @ The Dow Event Center: – The Saginaw Spirit and the Erie Otters battled at The Dow Event Center for Saginaw
Valley State University Night. The Spirit took control from the very onset. Eight goals later, the Spirit dismantled the Otters, 8-3. The Spirit set the tone for the game just 92 seconds into the game with a goal from Matthew
Kreis. Kreis scored his second goal of the year with a backhand shot from in front of the net thanks to slick pass from Kirill Maksimov that went between two defenders. Saginaw also began the game with stout defense on
the Otters high-flying offense. Erie didn’t get its first shot on goal until there was 11:49 left in the period. Jesse Barwell continued the scoring at 14:11 with his fourth goal of the season on the power play off of a rebound
from a Marcus Crawford shot. Just two minutes later, Brady Gilmour sniped his sixth goal into the back of the net over Troy Timpano’s left glove. A flurry of shots from Erie gave them the advantage in shots on goal, 10-8.
The scoring continued for the Spirit in the second period which produced five more goals. 70 seconds into the period, Kirill Maksimov scored his third goal of the 2016-17 campaign. At 9:53, Proner scored from the blue
line with a wrist shot that went through six bodies until it found the back of the net. 82 seconds later, Damien Giroux scored with a tip-in from in front of the net. Two minutes later, Hayden Hodgson scored his sixth goal of
the season from the top of the left circle. At 18:23, Max Grondin scored his first career OHL goal off of a rebound. Taylor Raddysh scored his 19th goal of the season, and Allan McShane scored his fifth goal to give the
Otters two goals for the period. Erie led Saginaw in shots on goal, 14-9. With all of the scoring done throughout the first two periods, there wasn’t any energy left from the two teams. The Spirit and Otters could only
muster one goal combined. At 3:32, Taylor Raddysh scored his league-leading 20th goal of the year. Both of Raddysh’s goals were on the power play, and both of his goals were assisted by Ivan Lodnia and Darren Rad-
dysh. Erie led Saginaw in shots on goal for the period, 12-4. The eight goals scored by the Spirit was a season-high, as the knocked off the Canadian Hockey League’s #2 ranked team, 8-3.
Season Series: Tonight the Saginaw Spirit and Erie Otters meet for the third of four meetings this season. The teams have split the first two games of the series with both teams winning at home.
