History of Ninth Grade Class of 1953 The first thing we remanber of this old brown stone building is the

day we first set our feet upon its steps in the fall of 1950. We trembled to think that we would be going to this school and we felt mighty small being the youngest students. During that year many wonderful things happen- . ed. We were first acquainted with the wonderful assemblies, the dances and all the different athletics. Betsy Drewry was the first girl to get enough athletic points in the seventh grade to join t h e Girls 1 Athletic Association. Walter Howard received the h onor of being catcher on the all American Midget Baseball Team.

After working mighty hard we progressed to the eighth grade. vie had great expectations for that year, most of wh ich C81Ile true. Ny, but we were proud of Lau r a Fox when she was chosen Snow Queen of our city. No less was our pride wh en t he ei ghth grade Eidget Football team went to the Santa Claus Bowl Game and captured top honor.s. John Hurt, one of our star players, was given the title of 11 All American Midget Football Player.rt

After a vigorous struggle we reach ed t h e fabulous Ninth Grade. Vie were proud of being the oldest but we r ealized our r esponsibi lity of setting a good example for our younger schoolmates. 1ie again c ame to t he election of Snow Que en and Betty Lou Hunter was ch osen from our school. The Ni nth Grade dramatics club sponsored many fine plays: "All Amer i can Boy11 , 11 Bird' s Chri s t mas Carol", 11 A Christrras Pageant 11 , 11Rip van Winkle", 11 An Ea st er Pa geant", and 11 A 1':.an Without a Country. 11 The art .department furnished fine scenery and decorations. After the ffiUsic assemblies which included Christmas music and a Spring Concert everyone was sin5~ng in t he halls.

~ve also enjoyed a gay s ocial life. The Y-Teen Dan ce, to which we dragged our 11 bo t s 11 , was a big succes s. l·1ary Hart H.ichardson was crowned 11 queen. 11 The Basketball Banquet which was given to the Boys 1 .wasketball Team, the Cheerle aders , t he Volleyball Team and t heir guests, by t he l:'arent Teacher Association of our school, was en joyed very rr..uch. The Ninth Gr ade 1 s fine Basketball teaw., which was supported by Cheerleaders and spectators alike, won t hird place in the league. Our girls 1 volleyball team captured the char, ipionship and had eve r yone in t h e sch ool bo asting abo ut t hem. The student council sponsored a talent show that was a higpligpt of the year . The council's officers went t o Miami, Florida, much to t he envy of everyone else. They promoted a big campaign to wipe out vandalism in our s chool. we el ected our class officers for t his year which were: ? r es i dent - Fr ank ~llet; Vice Pr es ident - Julia ~tutts; 3ecretary - Janet Bowman; Treas urer -Betty Bernard . iv e couldn 1t have picked finer people.

We, of t he Ni nt h Grade, look back on t he ye a.r s we have been at Lee Junior wit h great pride and we hope you wil l think of us when you are having t he gay t i me of t he y ears to c ome .
