Workstation installation of V-Ray 1.5 with hardware lock (dongle)

o install #$%ay and the dongle drivers on your machine4 please follow these steps8

1. 3ake sure that you have your dongle ready at hand. Bo not plug it into your machine

yet. ,f you plug the dongle before the correct drivers are installed4 -indows will notrecogniCe it. lso make sure that you have administrative privileges to run the installer.

2. Start the #$%ay 1.& installer (-indows #ista users4 see note above . 6ou should get thewelcome screen of the installer< click the :e"t button to proceed.

+. ,f the installer detects that there are applications running4 which would prevent someof the files to be copied properly4 it will list those applications in the ne"t screen< closethese applications and click the :e"t button.

. he ne"t screen will present you with the #$%ay licensing agreement. Please take amoment to review this agreement. ,f you disagree with any of the terms4 click the D,

disagreeE button to cancel the installation. Otherwise4 click the D, agreeE button toproceed8

&. he ne"t screen allows you to choose the installation type. 6ou can choose between afull (workstation installation4 a render slave installation (which includes only filesrelated to rendering4 without documentation nor the #$%ay SB= 4 and a license serveronly installation (which includes only files related to the #$%ay license server . Sincewe are interested in a workstation installation4 choose the -orkstation (full option8

/. he ne"t screen requires to enter the folders into which the various #$%ay componentswill be copied. he installer will fill in the fields with default suitable values4 if possible.6ou can change any of these paths as you wish4 although the defaults should work inmost cases< 'lick the :e"t button when you are done8

). he screen allows you to choose whether you will be running the #$%ay license serveron the same machine4 or on a different machine in the network.

0. ,f you opted to install the #$%ay license server locally on the same machine4 the ne"tscreen presents additional options specific to the hardware license< otherwise4 you willget directly to step and after the installation is complete4 you will get a dialog forsetting up the remote license server settings.

0.1 he first option is to install the hardware lock drivers. ,f you intend to use thedongle on this workstation4 then this option must be O: in order for the dongle towork properly.

0.2 he second option allows you to register the #$%ay license service so that it willstart automatically when -indows boots up. he #$%ay license service must berunning whenever you want to use the dongle on a given workstation (it reads theinformation from the dongle and communicates with #$%ay rendering system toprocess this information . ,f you intend to use the dongle on this machine4 then it isrecommended to turn this option O:.

. he ne"t screen is your last chance to cancel the installation or to modify anyinstallation options before any changes have been made to your system. ,f you wish tochange any of the settings you have selected4 click the 5ack button. o continue withthe actual installation4 click :e"t. Reprogra""ing a V-Ray dongle for a different nu"ber of li'enses,f you purchase more copies of the #$%ay renderer4 your dongle will need to be reprogrammedto reflect the new number of available licenses. %eprogramming the dongle is a two$partprocess8

. ,n the first part4 you need to send us a special file4 created by the -,5!$=>6 driverswhich contains information identifying your specific dongle.

5. 'haos 7roup will send you another file4 which includes the new contents of yourdongle. his is transferred onto the dongle by the -,5!$=>6 drivers.

Creating a dongle remote programming conte t file (.w!c)

,n order to reprogram the dongle4 you first need to create a file which identifies your specificdongle.

1. 7o to the machine where the dongle is plugged and where the -,5!$=>6 drivers areinstalled.

. ,f the dongle information is successfully written4 you will get a message similar to theone below and a new file )y,i&u.ox('&c will be created on the Besktop.*ote the .w/c file does not contain any information that may personally identify you oryour computer. ,t contains only information about your dongle.

&. >mail this file to vrayJchaosgroup.com along with any other relevant information.

"pdating the contents of the dongle with a remote programming file (.rt#)

Once we receive the .w/c file4 we will generate another file with e"tension .rtu that can be usedby the dongle drivers to update the contents of the dongle.

1. -hen you receive the .rtu file4 save it on the Besktop of the machine where the dongleis plugged.

Checking if the dongle has !een reprogrammed correctly

fter the dongle is successfully updated4 you may wish to check if the number of licenses iscorrect.

1. 3ake sure the #$%ay licensing service is running on the machine where the dongle isplugged in.

2. Open a web browser and in the address field4 type http: someserver :3!3!" wheresomeser0er is the name or ,P address of the machine where the #$%ay licensing serviceis running (or localhost if you are on that machine . 'lick the Get status of the serverlink on the page that loads. his will show a web$page with information about thelicenses currently available to the #$%ay licensing service. he total number of licensesis listed at the top of the page8

V-Ray renderer #ser interface is missing in $ds %a

Symptoms: -hen you assign #$%ay as the current renderer in +ds 3a"4 instead of the normaluser interface in the %ender Scene dialog4 you get the following8

Symptoms: he #$%ay licensing service is running and is listed in the active processes by theask 3anager4 but there is no icon in the ask5ar.

Cause: here may be two reasons for this8

. he icon is hidden by the $uto-hide unused icons option of the ask5ar tray.

5. ,f the #$%ay license service was started automatically as a -indows service4 it will notshow any !, items.

Resolution:

. ,f you have the $uto-hide unused icons option of the ask5ar tray4 click on thedouble$arrow icon to e"pand the full list of icons.

5. ,f you still do not see the #$%ay licensing service icon4 that means that the #$%aylicensing service is started as a -indows service and in that case cannot show anygraphical user interface. here is currently no resolution for this< you must manage the#$%ay license service from the Control panel G $dministrative tools GServicesapplet.
