Previously,IwroteinthiscolumnaboutthevisionandmissionofNHM.Ourname–NewHorizonsMinistries–ispropheticandtantamounttoourdestiny.Asafellowshipandconferenceof85churches,300+ministersand9000+churchmembers,wehavetheresourcesandpeopletoimpactourpresentgeographicallocationswhilepreparingtomoveintonewterritory,newministriesandnewvictories,spiritually,numericallyandfinancially.
ThroughDynamicChurchPlantingInternational(DCPI),wehavetrainedover25individualswhoarepreparingtoplantachurch.Theexcitement,passionandvisionoftheseequippedmenandwomenwilligniteareturntothechurchplantingofActsaswemoveforwardinreachingourworldforJesus.EveryNHMpastorshouldstronglyconsiderattendingaDCPItrainingtoseewhatGodwouldbirthinhimandhiscongregation.
Often,whenvisionandmissionarereviewed,arestructuringandrevitalizationoccurs.ThisisthecasewithourNHMDiscipleshipMinistries.Overthepast3decades,NHMhasbenefittedfromandappreciatedtheleadershipofDonKeizor,GaryGravesandHarleyWideman,astheyledusinChristianEducation.Now,afterextensiveprayer,researchandconsideration,ourDiscipleshipMinistrieswillbeledbyaDMCabinetofindividualswhowillspecializeinspecificareasofministrytoprovidefreshideas,focusedintentionsandfruitfulinvestmentoftime,talentandteamwork.ThisDMCabinetwillbeateamdedicatedtoprovidingthebestprogramsandministriestoourlocalchurchesandNHMasawhole.
OneofthesignsofahealthychurchasdemonstratedinActs2whentheFirstChurchbeganischange.Withpeoplebeingaddedtothechurchdaily,withthefavorofGodandallthepeople,withdevotiontoteaching,fellowship,communionandprayer,withadesiretogiveoffinancesandabilities,withmiraculoussignsandwondersbeingseen,withworship,withloveforoneanother,theEarlyChurch,empoweredbytheHolySpiritandfocusedonthedeathandresurrectionofJesus,turnedtheirworldupsidedownbychangingtheircultureandcommunities.
GodhaspromisedNHMthatwewillseeourworldchange,ourchurchesrevitalized,ourpeoplediscipled,ourboundariesexpandedandourvisionbecomedestiny.Together,wecanaccomplishHisPlan.
WewillDare2DreamwhileOntheRoadtoDestiny!
FROM THE BISHOP’S DESK
“…one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” Many of us grew up reciting the Pledge of Allegiance each morning of our school day. We continue to take our stand as we attend sporting events by placing our hand over our hearts and offering up the recitation. But have we taken the time to ponder how this “justice for all” is seen through the scriptures? “We Prayerfully Value Justice” is one of our IPHC Seven Core Values.
True justice can only be achieved with the Word of God as our guide. God holds our treatment of one another in such a high regard that in the Ten Commandments three relate to God and the other seven to one another.
Romans 13:8 “Let no debt remain outstanding except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.” When we wake up each morning our prayer should be, “Lord, help me to see others as you see them. Let my eyes be your lens of love.”
Pastor’s wives, as we view others through this lens of love, life’s diverse situations will not alter our perceptions, and as we embody God’s divine justice, we, will carry out the divine mandate of being a “Place of Hope” and a “People of Promise.”
We believe… • Justice includes Equity • Justice for the Oppressed • Justice for Male and Female • Justice for the Least of These
The goal of the IPHC is to be distinct, a separate people who advocate for justice among all people. (Exodus33:16: Isaiah 58:6). We must be a people who declare the freedom Christ alone bring to all who suffer bondage, both physical and spiritual (2 Corinthians 3:17).
We must not just deal with the effects of injustice and ignore the underlying causes. We dare not negate the factors embedded in laws, economic structures, and popular culture (lost without God), that reinforces injustice. We cannot be successful and significant until we get below the surface and deal with the roots of the problems. We can show God’s love by giving the gifts of time, listening, patience, and kindness Let us be called Christians! (Acts 11:26)
