changing the way the world sees Africa
In 2006, VoxAfrica identified a
new generation of Africans
dissatisfied with the news
and the image that was given
of their continent by mainly foreign or
government controlled media.
Spotting a gap in the market, VoxAfrica
was created in 2007 as the first panafrican,
independent and bilingual channel.
The channel’s mission is to “change the way
the world sees Africa” through an innovative
Afro-centric approach to news, general
entertainment, television production and
broadcasting.
INTRODUCTION
In 2006, VoxAfrica identified a new generation of Africans dissatisfied with the news and the
image that was given of their continent by mainly foreign or government controlled media.
Spotting a gap in this particular market, VoxAfrica began in 2007 as the first Panafrican,
independent and bilingual channel, made by private Africans broadcasting throughout the
continent via satellite.
The channel is aimed at the way the world sees and at Africans the
ability to project the realities of the African through an innovative Afro-‐centric
approach to news making and general TV programme production.
Quickly, VoxAfrica grew in popularity and started to be seen as the voice and of
Africa as opposed to what was portrayed on channels such as TV5 or even CNN.
In order to be available to all Africans at home and abroad, VoxAfrica decided to bridge the
gap between Africa and its Diaspora, by launching in France in May 2009, then in the UK in
May 2010. The launch of our 4th Signal on DSTV is planned for September 2011.
Today, more than just a TV channel, VoxAfrica is an independent multimedia platform voicing
a real and positive image of Africa based on progress and development, where all Africans can
express themselves freely. This has made VoxAfrica synonymous with transparency and
excellence, a designation that is continually maintained and improved upon.

Today, more than just a TV channel,
VoxAfrica is an independent multimedia
platform voicing a real and positive image
of Africa, Africans and the diaspora.
In 2010 VoxAfrica identified a convergence
of interest in business, news and
entertainment between the African and the
African Caribbean community.
The launch of the UK channel provided a
platform to be able to cater for all diaspora
communities, allowing VoxAfrica to fulfil its
wider mission to be the global standard for
the best in black news and entertainment.

The growing purchasing power of the diaspora audience for both niche and mainstream products and services is growing and is now significantly contributing to the total UK economy. For example, in 2011 over 30,000 Ghanaians turned up at Wembley to watch a friendly against England; Nigeria is one of the most profitable routes for both British Airways and Virgin Airlines; remittances to Africa contribute a significant amount to the UK financial services industry and telecommunication companies are targeting the diaspora communities spend on overseas and local calls.
