The machine will not allow you to vote for more than the proper number of candidates. (You will note on this instruction ballot that the Republican party and the Democratic party each occupy separate sections on the voting machine. At a primary, you are permitted to vote only for the candidates in your own party - therefore do not attempt to vote for candidates in any other party, because the buttons are locked against operation. Persons not registered Republican or Democratic may only vote in a primary if there is a referendum on the ballot.) 1. Enter Voting Booth Enter the voting booth by parting and walking through the curtain. The curtain will fall closed behind you to provide privacy. If you use a wheelchair, the voting machine will be lowered by the election officials before you enter. 2. Selecting Candidates Individually You may vote for individual candidates by pressing the numbered box within that candidate’s box. A red indicator light for that candidate will turn on. 3. Changing a Selected Candidate To change a selected individual candidate, press the numbered box again to turn off the red indicator light and choose another candidate. 4. Voting on a Question At the top of the ballot there may be Questions. Make your selection by pressing either the YES box if you are in favor of the question or the NO box if you are opposed. A red indicator light will turn on next to your selection. 5. Selecting a Write-In To vote for a person whose name is not on the ballot, you may write that person in as a candidate. First locate the appropriate office box and select Write-In. Then press the large red blinking light at the top of the machine to open the Write-In Window, and write or stamp your candidate’s name on the exposed paper roll. Then pull the black shutter down over the name you have written to close the window. A single write- in window is used for all offices. 6. Casting Your Ballot After you have made all the candidate selections you want, press the large green VOTE button at the lower right corner of the ballot. When you press the green VOTE button all of your candidate selections will be recorded, all lights in the voting machine will go out and you will hear a low bell-tone indicating you are finished.
