For now, German carmakers are world leaders in the auto-motive sector. However, Chinese automakers are making headway in e-cars, while the Californians at Tesla propel the competition.

What does the future of the automotive industry look like? The answer to this question is uncertain. An internal combustion engine consists of more than a thousand high-precision manu-factured metal parts – whereas an electric motor only consists of around 200 parts with correspondingly less work to build. This is not only true for the big car manufacturers, but above all for the many, often highly specialized automotive suppliers. Hundreds of thousands of skilled jobs are at stake.
