Dual-stage airbags, driver and frontpassengerIn a frontal collision, the driver and passengerairbags help protect your head, face and chest.The system varies their level of inflationdepending on the force of the collision. Shouldthe collision force be sufficiently low that theairbags aren’t needed, it will deploy the safety beltpre-tensioners.

Side Impact Protection System (SIPS)SIPS is a Volvo unique safety system that hasbeen developed to help protect where occupantsare most exposed to the crash forces. The steelframework of the car, including the front seats, isdesigned and reinforced to help displace theimpact of a side-collision away from theoccupants to other parts of the car body and helpprevent intrusion into the cabin. The side structureis extremely strong to help withstand a severeside impact, even with a larger vehicle.

ISOFIX ISOFIX attachments only allow you to fitthe child seat in the correct way. Theyalso make the child seat easier to fit andremove. We offer two rear-facing childseats with ISOFIX attachments: one forinfants and small children up to 13 kg,and one for children weighing between9 and 18 kg.

Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS)Integrated in the front seats, Volvo’s WHIPScradles the occupant to help reduce the risk ofwhiplash injury (one of the most common typesof traffic injury and often the result of low-speed rear impact collision). The function isactivated by a collision of sufficient force frombehind. Independent research has shown thatWHIPS is one of the most effective systems inthe world and can reduce the risk of long-terminjuries by 50%.

Inflatable Curtain (IC)The Inflatable Curtain (IC) helps protectthe heads of both front and rearoutboard occupants. It also stays inflatedfor some seconds to provide prolongedprotection for subsequent impacts.

Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC)By helping prevent fishtails, spinouts and rollovers, stabilitycontrol technology like DSTC has been described as oneof the most vital safety advances of the past decade. Atthe core of DSTC, a gyroscope senses the car’s directionand compares this with steering wheel movements as wellas the actual rotation of the car’s wheels. DSTC is able todetect a potential skid and help counteract this byreducing the engine’s power output, or braking on one ormore wheels.

Blind Spot Information System (BLIS)BLIS uses rear-facing cameras installed in the door mirrorsto keep a lookout on either side of the car. As a vehicleenters your blind spot, this function can alert you with alamp built in to the front door post, left or right. Togetherwith the door mirrors, this helps you assess the feasibilityof a lane change. BLIS is activated once the car exceeds6 mph, and reacts to almost any type of vehicle from amotorcycle upwards, day or night.

Road and Traffic Information (RTI)Volvo’s GPS-based RTI navigation system is totally integrated with your car. It offers both voiceguidance and graphic navigation all the way to your destination. Via TMC (Traffic MessageChannel) radio data broadcasts RTI also lets you know if there’s weather-related trouble en-routeand recommends an alternative. The RTI system is easily controlled from the steering wheel or aremote, and the screen is positioned so you can keep your attention on traffic. When not in use,the screen retracts into the dash. The maps are on one DVD and cover major parts of Europe. Tohelp you keep track of new roads and points of interest, you can join our MapCare programme fortwo free map updates.

Park assist cameraIf the car is equipped with RTI navigation and park assistcamera, this helps display what’s going on behind your carwhen reversing. The system uses the RTI screen and acamera discretely located over the licence plate. On-screenguiding lines provide extra assistance for smooth parking.

Personal Car Communicator (PCC) PCC is an advanced remote control that combines keylessdrive with two-way communication with your Volvo. Keepthe PCC with you and the car unlocks automatically as youpull the door handle. Start the engine by pressing a buttonon the dash, lock the car by pressing a button in the doorhandle. Later in the day, if you’re wondering whether you’velocked the car, PCC can remind you; no matter where youare. On your return to the car – within a radius of 60 to100 metres – pressing the PCC information button willgive you a current report on its status. If the alarm hasbeen activated, the onboard heartbeat sensor will give youadvanced warning if there’s somebody in your car and anopportunity to evaluate the situation safely.

Integrated Bluetooth® handsfree systemBluetooth® technology enables a mobile phone to be connected to the infotainment system inyour Volvo, wirelessly. Once configured for a mobile phone, the system automatically recognisesyour phone as you enter the car. And as you climb in and out of the car, the system automaticallyallows you to switch freely from the phone to the handsfree system and back again. With Volvo’sintegrated Bluetooth® handsfree system you conveniently operate your phone using the buttonsin the steering wheel or the centre console keypad. Available as an accessory, there’s also a voice-controlled Bluetooth® handsfree system that will listen to your command and make calls for you.
