General

The Volvo On Call system (from now on refer-red to as VOC) is linked to the car's built-inphone, SRS and alarm systems. See the vehi-cle's owner's manual for information aboutthese systems. The map of Europe on page14 shows the countries where the system isavailable. Contact your Volvo dealer (seepage 8) for the latest information becausethe map is subject to change. VOC is a sup-plemental service that consists of safety,security and comfort services whose offering ismarket dependent. Contact your Volvo dealerfor information about which of these servicesare available in your country.

Availability

Once the remote key has been removed fromthe car the VOC system functions are availablecontinuously for 3 days and then once per hourduring the next 11 days.

WARNING

The system only works in areas whereVOC's partners have GSM coverage and inthe markets where the Volvo On Call serviceis available.

WARNING

Just as with mobile phones, atmosphericdisturbances or sparse transmitter cover-age may lead to connection being impossi-ble, e.g. in sparsely populated areas.

Transfer of ownership of a car withVolvo On Call

It is very important with a transfer of ownershipthat the VOC services are cancelled so that theformer owner cannot continue to perform VOCservices in the car. Contact your Volvo dealer.Also see "Replacing the security code" in thismanual."

Safety Services

• Automatic alarm - In the event of an acci-dent where the airbag or inflatable curtainis activated a signal is sent automatically toVOC Customer Service.

• Manual alarm - You can contact the VOCCustomer Service to request help in emer-gencies.

• Access to roadside assistance services

For information on Safety Services, seepage 6.

Security Services

• Theft Notification - Automatic signal toVOC Customer Service in the event of aburglary or theft (if the car's alarm systemis activated).

• Stolen Vehicle Tracking - Helps track thecar in the event of theft.

• Remote Door Unlock - Remote unlockingof the car if the keys have gone missing orhave been locked in the car.

• Remote Vehicle Immobiliser - Monitoringand deactivation of the stolen car.

Comfort Services

• Remote Heater Start - Cars equippedwith fuel-powered engine and passengercompartment heaters in combination withVOC offer the same setting options for theheater as inside the car using a mobilephone. RHS makes it possible to adjusttimer settings by sending the desired set-ting by using a mobile phone.

Mobile Applications, Volvo on Call

Volvo Car offers several services which simplifythe handling of the car. For more informationabout mobile applications, see www.volvo-cars.com > Select country > Sales & Services> Volvo On Call.

Overview Safety Services

The VOC system uses GPS (Global PositioningSystem) to locate the car and the car's built-inphone to contact VOC Customer Service.

When you press the ON CALL- or SOS buttona signal is sent to VOC Customer Service aboutthe car's position and the service you reques-ted.

NOTE

The SOS button must only be used in theevent of accidents, illness or if there is anexternal threat to the car and its passen-gers.

The SOS function is only designed for emer-gency situations. Improper use may lead toextra debiting. The ON CALL button can beused for all other services, including road-side assistance.

To disable the ON CALL and SOS buttonswhen the key is not inserted, see the menuoption Key lock on page 12.

The system is not available if the menu optionRadio transmission is set to OFF 1.

Automatic alarm

If the seat belt pre-tensioners, airbags or inflat-able curtain (see the car's owner's manual)deploy the following occurs:

1. A message is sent automatically from thecar to the VOC Customer Service withinformation about the car's position andthat the SRS system has been deployed.

2. The VOC Customer Service then estab-lishes voice contact with the car's driverand attempts to find out the extent of thecrash and the need of help.

3. The VOC Customer Service then contactsthe necessary assistance (police, ambu-lance, towing, etc.).

Manual alarm

1. Push the SOS button for at least2 seconds to summon help in case of ill-ness, external threats to the car or passen-gers, etc.

2. VOC Customer Service is notified of theneed for help and information about thecar's position.

3. VOC Customer Service establishes voicecontact with the driver and agrees on thenecessary assistance.

If voice contact cannot be established, VOCCustomer Service contacts the relevantauthorities, who then take the appropriateaction.

Roadside Assistance

1. Press the ON CALL button for at least2 seconds to summon help in the event ofa puncture, fuel shortage, discharged bat-tery, etc.

2. VOC Customer Service establishes voicecontact with the driver and agrees on thenecessary assistance.

If voice contact cannot be established, VOCCustomer Service contacts the relevantauthorities, who then take the appropriateaction.

Emergency Number

When the emergency service is enabled, theVOC system establishes contact with the VOCCustomer Service in the country where the caris located.

If this is not possible, the call is forwarded tothe emergency number 112 instead.

Cancelling a call

A started service can be cancelled within10 seconds by pressing the EXIT button (seeimages on page 5).

Information messages on the display

On Call Deactivated - The VOC subscriptionis not activated or is no longer valid! The serv-ices will not work. Contact your Volvo dealer orVOC Customer Service, see page 8.

On Call Service required - The VOC systemis not working. Visit your Volvo dealer for help.

On Call subscr. Will soon expire - The VOCsubscription will soon expire. Contact yourVolvo dealer.

Volvo On Call in standby - The phone1 canbe turned on temporarily.

1. Press PHONE (see images on page 5).2. The phone can then be used for calls, but

will automatically revert to standby after ashort while.

NOTE

VOC Customer Service cannot contact yourcar while a call is being made with the built-in telephone.

When a call with VOC Customer Service isended and the service is finished, the VOC sys-tem will automatically go back to phone modeon the phone and the service starts.

To contact VOC Customer Service from a dif-ferent phone than the car's built-in phone, seepage 8.

When you are abroad and wish to makecontact with VOC Customer Service youcan call the phone number to Volvo On Callin your own country, see the table below.

General

Volvo's security services aim to minimise therisk of the owner losing his car. If the car is sto-len, it can also be tracked and possibly deac-tivated.

In addition to the safety and security services,an enhanced security system is offered onsome markets as an option.

VOC's back-up battery kicks in if the car powerfails.

Theft Notification

Theft Notification is a system that is activatedin the event of burglary or theft.

If the car alarm system is activated, VOC Cus-tomer Service will be notified automaticallyafter a specified time. If the alarm is turned offusing the remote control key the service will becancelled.

Stolen Vehicle Tracking

Stolen Vehicle Tracking is a system that helpsto track the car in the event of theft. If the vehi-cle has been stolen, VOC Customer Servicecan track the vehicle to facilitate its return.

NOTE

This also applies if the car has been stolenusing the associated remote control key.

Remote Door Unlock

1. If your car's remote key has been lost or islocked in the car, the VOC Customer Serv-ice can be contacted.

2. VOC Customer Service sends a signal tothe car and after agreement with the carowner or other authorised person, the caris unlocked.

3. The boot lid/tailgate must be opened tounlock the doors1. Press twice on thetouch button2 or pull the handle3.

When the doors are opened, the car's alarmsystem will trigger. Turn off the alarm by press-ing the unlock button on the remote key orinsert the remote key in the ignition switch.

NOTE

If the tailgate is not opened within a timepredetermined by VOC the tailgate/boot lidwill be locked again.

NOTE

If, for example, the car is in a parkinggarage, the remote unlocking function maypossibly be disrupted due to poor telephonereception.

Remote Vehicle Immobiliser

If the car is stolen the owner or authorities con-tact VOC Customer Service.

NOTE

This also applies if the car has been stolenusing the associated remote control key.

After having been in contact with authoritiesVOC Customer Service then deactivate theremote keys to prevent the car from beingstarted. A deactivated car can only be startedagain by contacting VOC Customer Serviceand after requisite verification has beenapproved. VOC Customer Service can thenactivate the car.

Remote Heater Start

To control the heater in the car with your mobilephone means effortless operation of theheater, increasing the comfort experience at acost of an SMS.

The heater function has two times, called T1

and T2. These show when the car has reachedthe set temperature. In order for only theauthorised user to control the heater, the SMSmessage must include the car's registrationnumber, followed by the1 VOC system's PINcode2.

NOTE

Each subcommand is followed by a # char-acter. The message should be written as astring without spaces and finished with a #character, e.g. # PIN-kod # 1 #

Telephone number

The message should be sent to the followingnumber: +46 70 903 20 40. On some mobilephones, it is possible to create a message tem-plate to make it a simpler and faster procedure.

NOTE

Be careful where the car is parked whenRHS is used as the heater emits exhaustfumes, see additional information in thecar's owner's manual.

Direct Commands

To start the heater directly:

1. Enter the car's registration number fol-lowed by # PIN code # 1 #

2. Send the message.

If the heater is running and is to be switched offimmediately:

1. Enter the car's registration number fol-lowed by # PIN code # 0 #

2. Send the message.

Time command

If a new time is to be added, end the messagewith the desired time, e.g. 17303.

Change and activate T1:

1. Enter the car's registration number fol-lowed by # PIN code # 11 # Time #

2. Send the message.

Change and activate T2:

1. Enter the car's registration number fol-lowed by # PIN code # 12 # Time #

2. Send the message.

If a previously entered time should be acti-vated:

Activate T1:

1. Enter the car's registration number fol-lowed by # PIN code # 11 #

2. Send the message.

Activate T2:

1. Enter the car's registration number fol-lowed by # PIN code # 12 #

2. Send the message.

The set time must be deactivated to cancel apreviously scheduled heater start.

To deactivate T1:

1. Enter the car's registration number fol-lowed by # PIN code # 01 #

2. Send the message.

To deactivate T2:

1. Enter the car's registration number fol-lowed by # PIN code # 02 #

2. Send the message.

1 The registration number can contain both uppercase and lowercase letters.2 The PIN code is the code that the car owner previously sent to VOC Customer Service by pressing the OnCall button.3 The time is always rounded to the nearest 5-minute interval.

If the heater does not start

There are situations when the heater can notstart. An SMS is then sent with the text "Theheater could not start!" to the cell number thathas tried to initiate the service.

The VOC functions below are available viaMENU button (MY CAR1) and are displayed onthe screen.

They can also be accessed via the built-inphone's menu system. See the section cover-ing the phone in the car's owner's manual formore information about the menus.

• SOS - Pressing ENTER (OK/MENU1) onceon the control panel (confirm by pressingonce more) is the same as pressing theSOS button for 2 seconds: the manualalarm service is activated. This menuoption acts as a backup function for theSOS button.

• On Call - Pressing ENTER (OK/MENU1)once on the control panel (confirm bypressing once more) is the same as press-ing the ON CALL button for 2 seconds: theroadside assistance service is activated.This menu option acts as a backup func-tion for the ON CALL button.

• Activate radio transmission/Deactivate

NOTE

In XC90 this menu option is called Radiotrans.

The VOC system is an automatic receptionfunction, which means that the system willautomatically check the availability of VOCservice network. To turn off both the built-inphone and the automatic reception function,proceed as follows:

1. When Radio transmission is shown on thedisplay, press ENTER (OK/MENU1) on thecontrol panel.

2. If the radio transmission code is disabled:Then press ENTER (OK/MENU1) again toconfirm. - The automatic reception func-tion restarts automatically the next time thecar is started.

If the radio transmission code is enabled: Enterthe correct radio transmission code (the presetcode is 1234) and then press ENTER (OK/

MENU1).

– The automatic reception function restartsautomatically the next time the car isstarted.

• Change radio transmission code

To deactivate the radio transmission code:

1. When Change radio transmission code

is shown on the display, press ENTER

(OK/MENU1) on the control panel.

– Radio transmission can be disabled with-out a code.

To activate the radio transmission code:

1. When Change radio transmission code

is shown on the display, press ENTER

(OK/MENU1) on the control panel.2. Enter the four character code (the preset

code is 1234) and then press ENTER (OK/

MENU1).3. Enter the code and then press ENTER

(OK/MENU1).

– The radio transmission can only be disa-bled with the correct code.

• Key lock - You can decide when theSOS and ON CALL buttons are to be ena-bled. This function means the buttons are

only enabled if the remote key is set to I,II or if the engine is running.

• Activate Subscription - Used to start asubscription.

NOTE

In XC90 this menu option is called Cancelsubscr.

• Deactivate subscription - Used to stop asubscription.

Why collect personal information?

Personal information is used by Volvo and itspartners both within and outside of the EU/EESto provide and develop the VOC service.

What personal information iscollected?

The personal information collected primarilybelongs to the following three categories.

• Personal information that the customerprovides in connection with the activationof the VOC service and during other con-tact with Volvo this includes name,

address, telephone number, type of serv-ice and the duration of the service.

• When an specific event covered by theservice occurs information is automaticallysent from the vehicle. Such a messagecontains the vehicle ID (VIN), time when theservice is used, type of service, if airbagshave been triggered, if the belt tensionershave been triggered, current amount offuel, current temperature inside and out-side the vehicle, whether the doors andwindows are locked or open and the vehi-cle's last six positions with speed anddirection.

• Other information that can be linked to thecustomer are telephone calls with peoplein the vehicle, the customer centre thatprovided the service and notes made bythe customer service operator.

Who will be able to see my personaldetails?

Volvo uses sub-contractors to provide theservice. These sub-contractors work on behalfof Volvo and may only process personal detailsto the extent necessary to provide the service.All sub-contractors are bound by agreementsrequiring them to observe secrecy and to treatpersonal details in accordance with applicablelaw.

Removal procedures

The personal details required to provide theVOC service are stored during the agreementperiod and thereafter for as long as necessaryin order for Volvo to fulfil its obligations underlaw and other regulations. Information gener-ated during events covered by the VOC serviceis pared down three months after the eventoccurred.

Correction and register extracts

Private persons have the right to request cor-rection of incorrect data and to obtain anextract which shows the personal informationcollected. Contact Volvo's customer service tocorrect personal information. Register extractrequests must be made in writing and be per-sonally signed by the applicant and includename, address and customer number. Therequest should be sent to Volvo Car Corpora-tion, Personal Information Representative,Dept. 50090, HB3S, 405 31 Gothenburg, Swe-den.

Consent to collect personalinformation

By activating your subscription in accordancewith the instructions in this document, the useragrees to the collection of personal informationprovided in connection with the VOC service.
