Behind every Volvo ' exhaustive test work.Both in thelaboratory and on 'proving grounds, which is one Q (

the most modern i the world.



Before a new truck - or even a new component is put intoproduction, it goes through a programme of exhaustive test-ing. These test are carried out both in the laboratory and onthe proving grounds. The cornputer controlled laboratory testsenable Volvo engineers to simulate years of driving. Infact,

vehiclesare subjected to the same strains and stresses thattheywould go through in the whole of their working lives injust afewmonths.Volvo's own proving grounds at Hallered outside Goteborgprovides the opportunity of testing the trucks under driving

conditions that are far more arduous than anything encoun-

tered in normal use. 15,000kilometres ofhard driving on the

test track can equal well over 400,000 kilometres of rnotmal"

driving, Volvo's modem generation of long-distance heavytrucks, the FlO and F12, went through tests that equalled tenround trips to the moon before their introduction in the au-tumn of 1977.

These strenuous programmes are backed up by practical ex-perience ofworking in extreme climatic conditions - varyingfrom the Arctic coldofnorth em Sweden to the heatand dustofAustralian desert. And tomake sure that everything functionsas it should under actual working conditions, we let various

haulage firms test our trucks in their everyday operations.
