Axe the Jack at Escape 605 in Downtown Sioux Falls

Escape 605 has teamed up with Amy Stockberger Realty to conduct a fundraiser for The Banquet at the downtown Sioux Falls location. Every Tuesday evening you can donate money for a chance to choose the Jack of Spades from a deck of cards. Tickets are 2 for $5.00, 5 for $10.00 or 20 for $20.00.

This continues weekly until the Jack of Spades is drawn. Escape 605 has contributed $500 to start the pot, which will continue to grow each week. Come down to Escape 605 every Tuesday to support your neighbors who rely on The Banquet for meals and milk for their children.

Banquet Birthday Party! Dakotah Jordan, former Volunteer Coordinator at The Banquet, celebrated her 25th birthday at The Banquet. She invited her friends and family for the celebration and encouraged them to make a donation toward the meal. She served spaghetti and meatballs, garlic bread and grapes to a crowd of hungry guests. “Giving back to my community seemed natural for me as I loved working here.” Dakotah cites how she feels that giving back is good for her profession as a financial planner at Northwestern Mutual and encourages her co-workers and clients to do the same. Dakotah is involved with Junior Achievement as well. Thank you for holding your celebration at The Banquet! If you would like to sponsor a meal call The Banquet at 335-7066 and ask for Wendy, the Volunteer Coordinator. You may go online to find open dates at thebanquetsf.org/serve-a-meal and sign up!

A committee of volunteers, led by The Banquet Executive Director, Tamera Jerke-Liesinger, is working diligently with contractors and architects to have all plans completed when it’s time to break ground on the new Banquet West building. Now it’s up to Mother Nature to cooperate. The 7,000 square foot building will be built at the corner of 5th Street and Marion Road in northwest Sioux Falls. This is a highly anticipated feeding site for families living in poverty in the Hayward neighborhood, which is west of Interstate-29 and north of 12th Street. Nearly 80% of the children living in this neighborhood qualify for free or reduced-price lunch at school.

The plan is to open in the fall of 2019, allowing volunteers to serve an evening meal five nights each week, Monday through Friday.

If you’d like to make a contribution toward sustaining The Banquet and ensuring that people most at risk of going hungry in our community are fed, please go to http://thebanquetsf.org/donate. You may choose a one-time gift or monthly contribution. Your time and treasure are making lives better for people in our community.

Sustaining The Banquet: Your financial support sustains The Banquet ministry. Your tax-deductible gifts allow this ministry to continue to serve nearly 200,000 meals each year to people living in poverty in Sioux Falls. As a nonprofit 501 (c)3 organization, The Banquet relies solely on private donations of materials and cash to pay for milk, coffee and juice; food and equipment; staffing and building costs. Your gifts allow us to continue to help the thousands of guests who pass through these doors every year. We cannot serve hungry families without the support of local businesses, churches and individuals.
