Some new and exciting opportunities for you all to have a look at! The Big Charge! (16 25) Cycle Southend and Metal are attempting to charge up a battery by pedal power in order to run The Green Stage at the Village Green Event on the 25 th September. We will have 10 bikes in Chalkwell Park from 20 th to 24 th September 8am 8pm that will need to be constantly pedalled! We also need volunteers to help with the running of this massive project signing people in & out, writing certificates and setting up bikes. Connexions Young Carers Project (16-19) Enthusiastic and energetic volunteers are required to help out with activities and events run for young carers! We are looking for young people to help out with weekly club sessions (including homework support, sport, arts & crafts opportunities, dance & drama), school holiday trips, events & visits as well as weekend camps & outdoor activities. Great way to help children & young people aged 8 18 and gain great experiences for your CV! The Big Charge! (16 – 25)

Cycle Southend and Metal are attempting to charge up a battery by

local information service. Safe Radio will train and equip you to work from the Southend Studio where the central news office is based.

Southend-on-Sea SOS Bus (18 – 25)

Have you ever wanted to make a difference to your local community? The YMCA are looking for volunteers to help out during the night on the SOS

bus in the town centre. The bus provides a “safe haven” to vulnerable and distressed people, revellers who have lost their friends, drug mis-

users, victims of crime or drunken people; helping them to be reunited with their friends, collected by relatives or become less distressed.

Sexual Health Peer Educator

South East Essex PCT (Public Health Team)

Opportunity for South Essex College students aged 16-19

Teach your fellow students about reproductive health, Sexual Transmitted

Disease detection and treatment. Wide range of tasks involved from delivering talks and holding discussions in small groups to producing

promotional material and attending publicity events.

Great opportunity for students interested in health and wellbeing. Full

training will be provided.

Gardening Opportunities (16 – 25)

Are you a bit green fingered? Looking to give up some time each week to

help maintain and improve local open spaces? Why not volunteer some of your time, gain some great experience and give something back to the

community? We have several opportunities based around the Southend area so why not give it a go!

Cycle Southend

Ride Co-ordinator (18 – 25)

You will be aiding a cycling instructor in leading recreational rides. This is a great opportunity to get out on your bike, meet new people and see

Southend like you’ve never seen it before! You will be encouraging new and less confident riders and promoting cycling as a form of transport.

Recycle Centre Assistant (18 – 25)

The volunteer will get involved in all parts of recycling a bike. From the collection to the admin, rebuilding and selling. It would be an advantage

to have worked on bikes before, in sales or admin work. The recycling site is just off Progress Road at the Eastwood end.

Leukaemia CARE (16 – 25)

Community Fundraiser – whatever level of responsibility you are

looking for, whether it’s to fundraise locally, create and organise your own events or coordinate community fundraising, you can get involved

with activities to suit you. This could involve organising big events, creating/selling merchandise, organising sports events, concerts & music

or anything that fires your imagination and creativity!

Care Volunteer – help to provide emotional support to those affected

by Leukaemia and other blood disorders, particularly to those who have contacted our 24hr CARE line. You will need to provide a listening ear,

someone they can open up to in times of need, who will help empower them to get through difficult times.

Charitable Collector – carrying out collections at various locations

throughout the year as well as helping to raise awareness of Leukaemia CARE’s work and services.

Essex Coalition of Disabled People – Independent Support

Volunteer Training (16 – 25)

Training courses are running in September, October & November for

people interested in learning how to support disabled people to become involved in activities within their local community (i.e. joining social

groups/clubs, college courses, voluntary or paid work). The project is

run by Essex Coalition of Disabled People; it is an enabling and confidence building project. The aim is to place volunteers to work on a

1-2-1 basis with a disabled person.

Peaceful Place

We provide day care facilities and a social club for people under 65 with

onset dementia. We will also shortly be providing respite care as well as starting building work for a residential care home housing 8 people,

providing 24 hour support.

Inspired Graphic Designer – we need a graphic designer with flair and imagination to produce some eye catching leaflets and entrance tickets

for various fundraising functions. There is also the possibility of helping

with the page setting of our twice yearly newsletters as well.

Musician / Entertainer – we are seeking a keen performer to do some singing and/or simple music making with a small group.

Southend Youth Offending Service – Volunteer Panel Members (18 – 25)

Volunteering with a difference! A great way to participate in referral panels with other volunteers to decide together, with a case worker and

the young person, what they can do whilst on their Referral Order. Excellent opportunity for anyone interested in the youth justice system.

One-Off opportunities taking place over the autumn

All events are a great way to try out volunteering and lend a hand for a good cause and you will receive a vthankyou certificate!

Metal Culture – Village Green Event 25th & 26th September

Interested in arts & culture? Why not help out at this local event towards

the end of September - opportunities include Runners, Photograhpy Assistant, Catering, Stewarding & more!

Connexions (Shoebury) – Youth Forum Quiz Night 13th November

Shoeburyness locality youth forum are running a quiz night to raise money for new equipment/activities for young people in the area. Event

helpers are needed to make sure the evening goes smoothly.

Free Training Opportunity for Southend Community Champions – 25th & 26th October 2010

Do you come across people who are worried about local issues? Are you interested in helping our communities get on better together? Would

you like training to help you with this? Why not come all to a free taster session in the evening of the 22nd September to find out more and see if

you’d like to attend the full two days in October??? Great opportunity

for anyone interested in community work and diversity issues.
