“Volunteering is a work of heart”

Operation Adopt A SoldierHelp us support Operation Adopt A Soldier, where we work to provide support to U.S. Soldiers stationed worldwide through the generous assistance of volunteers from the Saratoga, Albany, Queensbury, and Clifton Park, NY areas.

“May your thoughts be as glad as the shamrocks. May your heart be as light as a song. May each day bring you bright, happy hours that stay with you all the year long.” — Irish Blessing

Spring is finally here! After a long winter, we welcome the sun and signs of spring.

In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day this month, we will feature Irish Coffees at the bar, our annual St. Patrick’s Day party, Baileys and Coffee, cooking class making Bailey’s Poke cake, and Crème de Menthe parfaits.

Join us for our Connected Life Lifelong Learning lectures. Schenectady Historian, Chris Leonard, will be here to talk about his new book, “Schenectady GE Realty Plot”. We welcome back local historian, Charles Kuenzel, who will bring us “Saratoga History Using the Bolster Photographic Collection”.

Interested in supporting our U.S. soldiers stationed worldwide? Join us to learn more about “Operation Adopt A Soldier”, a local organization that send packages to soldiers. Date and time to be announced.

Take a look at all of our Summit Supper Club offerings this month, including a corned beef dinner with Chef Mickey. Stop in the office and sign up for a fabulous dinner. Join other residents and dine in our Tavern or take it back to your apartment.

Happy Spring!

Come and listen to Chris Leonard, City Historian & GE Realty Plot Historian, talk about his new book: “Schenectady GE Realty Plot”. The book focuses on the history of the Plot, not so much the

architecture, and includes not only the big names (like Steinmetz) but also 2nd and 3rd generation residents who also did great things.

You’ll enjoy hearing about Alice (the purple caftan lady) who was a force of nature and gave fabulous parties on her porch. The plot was never intended to be strictly inhabited by GE people. It was envisioned as a place where political, business, religious and entertainment elite would reside, with GE at the center of it.

SARATOGA HISTORY USING THE BOLSTER PHOTOGRAPHIC COLLECTIONBy: Charlie Kuenzel

Thursday, March 191:00pmGreat Room

The old saying "A picture is worth a thousand words" is still true today. The Saratoga Springs History Museum is the custodian for 325,000 images from the collection of photographer George Bolster that tell, better than any other resource, the history of the city.

This talk will use many lesser seen images to tell the story of Saratoga Springs.
