ECOTOURISTIC PROGRAM FOR SPANISH STUDENTS AND

VOLUNTEERS

LOCATION: Integral Farm “El Rosario”,

Puerto Quito, Pichincha.

OBJECTIVE: To learn and practice Spanish

through coexisting with local people and

developing activities related to the

environment and community.

PLACE DESCRIPTION

GUESTHOUSE: It provides

accommodations for six people, with

food, electricity, fresh water, ecological

toilet, kitchen, TV, DVD player, internet

and camping area.

VOLUNTEERING

Volunteer work will be carried out in one of these

three areas:

- Health (10 hours)

- Education (15 hours)

- Agriculture (15 hours)

We offer direct support to La Abundancia Medical

Center, 8 de Septiembre Primary School and El

Rosario Integral Farm respectively.

Health.- Volunteers will assist the Doctors at the

Medical Center and plan a medical brigade for

diagnosis visiting different nearby little villages.

Education.- Volunteers will help the School

teacher, particularly in English lessons, sports and

art.

Agriculture.- Volunteers will support the farm´s agroecological engeneering projects with knowledge and

simple applications which subsequently will be shared with the community and then run in nearby farms.

Usually, tasks will be assigned according to the specific needs at the moment and the volunteers´ skills;

they shall have a basic knowledge on the area of interest. Volunteers may bring a certificate of any

related seminar or academic course and a letter specifying their competences and interests.

The Ecuadorian jungle is one of the most

exciting and fascinating in the world, the

biodiversity that you can find in it is amazing.

The Amazonas ecosystem, particularly its

tropical rain forest, is considered to be one of

the richest and most complex communities of

plant and animal life in the world. The region

is characterized by huge and diverse amounts

of flora and fauna with extraordinary

variations in their habitats and micro

habitats.

In the jungles of the Upper Amazon 100

species of trees per acre have been recorded.

In Central America, only up to 40 species of

trees per acre have been discovered. In the

temperated forests of North America and

Europa, rarely more than 20 different species

exist per acre. The Amazon supports over 600

species of fish and more than 250 species of

amphibians and reptiles.

In our “Jungle Adventure” program you will:

Explore with the Shuar community; they are the

ascient and wisdom inhabitants of the jungle,

also known as “jibaros” by the Spanish

Conquers, is one of the most brave and jungle

adapted community of Ecuador.

Climbing up and down from mountain using

ropes and learn how to climb trees by the same

way.

Hike in wonderful places and enjoy very

beatiful landscapes and natural balconies.

Participate in rituals and ceremonies where you can

caves with water, tunels, uphills, go through rivers.

Make up paralizing arrows and build up shelters to

sleep at night.

plants to cross the Rivers and other stuffs.

Make up ladders with them so that you can

climb to the caves.

Learn fishing and hunting by imitating animals

Interested Profile

To be a volunteer you need no experience, only

good spirits and eager to learn and teach. To be

intern you must be a professional able to adapt

and integrate into the community, respecting

cultural values of the region. It´s necessary an

intermediate Spanish level for the correct

communication with the people.

For the volunteer or intern wishes, the

“Institute of Internships and Volunteer”

gives a certificate in recognition of the work

done, which will get apostille in the

Ministery of Foreign affairs with diplomatic

stamp, through it the volunteer or intern

will have a Document that will serve in any

country.

We offer you the possibility to explore this fantastic World combining with

Spanish classes, its ideal for groups from 3 to 6 students.

You will arrive to a comfortable and nice hotel, you will receive classes in the

morning and your teacher will go with you to the different activities you’ll

have in the afternoon. The last day you will visit an indigenous community of

the tribe Shuar and attend to a Shaman healing ceremony. It will be an

unforgettable experience. The itinerary is:

Sunday: You will travel to the hotel in Puyo and

arrive in the afternoon. At your arrival you can

take the rest of the afternoon to do some light

exploring of the places nearby. When you retorn

to the hostal you will enjoy a dinner.

Monday: Class in the morning. In the

afternoon you will visit a botanical garden

“Las Orquídeas” (The Orchids) where you can

admire these beautiful flowers. Ecuador has

the greatest diversity of orchid species in the

world.

Tuesday: Classes and a visit to the Fatima

Zoo where you can see the different animal

species of the area.

Vida”waterfall where you can enjoy the beautiful

landscapes and take a swim if you’d like

you can admire the rich marine life of the Amazon

Experience Ecuador from a whole new perspective by signing up for one of our volunteer

programs. Our programs offer a unique opportunity for participants to work side-by-side

with local people, on locally designed and driven projects. Our volunteer programs are

designed to facilitate hands-on-service and cultural exchange with the aim of fostering

cultural understanding. As an international volunteer, you will participate in meaningful

community development and gain a whole new perspective of Ecuador. We offer you the

possibility of volunteering in a Shuar community located in the Amazon region in the Pastaza

province surrounded by beautiful landscapes. You will have the possibility to visit Puyo city

or other interesting nearby places on the weekend. In this community you can help in:

- English education for the children of the

school community

- Reforestation: planting, vegetation

- Participate in the creation of handicrafts

with the people of the community.

To participate in these activities, it is necessary to have a good level of Spanish (at least

intermediate). For students that don’t have any knowledge of the Spanish language, we

recommend at least 80 hours of Spanish class, 4 hours daily, that will allow you to reach

the ideal level of Spanish.

The cost per month is $499 with food included three meals.

The South American Language Center offers you the chance to have your Spanish studies in

a very pleasant environment, incredible costs in a place where you can relax and have

fun with the different possibilities you have in the hostel where you will stay, and where you'll

have the ability to access all the great experiences that become Baños in one of the most tourist

cities of Ecuador.

In the hostel you will have access to: Eating (two or three times a day), karaoke, gym, pull, etc,

finally a place to learn Spanish and rest.

Also in Baños you will be able to practice extreme sports or walking to

the different waterfalls that we will detail later.

Baños de Agua Santa Cascadas de Río Chico is one of the most attractive cities for

tourists in Ecuador, it is located in the Tungurahua province, 3 hours from

the south of Quito. With a population about 15,000 people who work in 90% to tourism.

Baños has a warm, humid climate with an average temperature of 18 ° C, it is located at an

altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level on the slopes of the Tungurahua volcano.

It is the ideal place for ecotourism and extreme sports such as rafting, canoeing, bungee

jumping, mountain biking, etc.

Baños is also known as “The Golden Door” and “The Piece of Heaven”, it also offers many

attractions: you can relax in termal pools, visit the church called Basílica de la Reina del

Rosario de Agua Santa, you can visit different waterfalls, climb the Tungurahua volcano

(taking care as it is a volcano in full activity and is currently erupting), you can try the

mashmallows (candy canesyrup); theer are varieties of handicrafts from balsa and tagua.

Baños de Agua Santa there aren´t tall buildings, but at one of the ends of town there is a

waterfall, into urban land, called “The Virgin” waterfalls.

Formed right in the middle of Bellavista Hill, middle of Bellavista Hill, it can be viewed

from the center of the beautiful city, it is amazed by its magnificence.

� Inés María Waterfall (Rio Pastaza)

Entering Baños and down the San Martín Bridge, the Pastaza River goes

between narrow rocks leading to a natural phenomenon forming the Waterfall called "Inés

María", its beauty is breathtaking and the road is accessible where you can enjoy the nature.
