INTRODUCTION TIME: 10MINS

Ask the young people to discuss the following questions:

What is volunteering? What are the benefits of volunteering?

SESSION CONTENT

Access to computers and the internet

Ask the young people to use Young Scot WOW to find volunteering opportunities in their area. There is a specific volunteering tab the young people can use and are able to search by area.

EVALUATION TIME: 5MINSThink feel doEach young person to think about the following questions, record their responses on post-it notes and stick them to the outline on the human being on the wall: what they have learnt from these sessions (stick post-its to the head of the human ouline) How they feel about the volunteering opportunities available to them (stick post its to the heart) What action are they going to take – it is important that this is SMART (specific, measured,

achievable, realistic, timed). These post its should be stuck to the hands of the human outline.

SUMMARY

ACTIVITY ONE TIME: 10MINS

Ask the young people to split into five small groups and explore one of the following voluntary organisations organisations/projects: Project Scotland Scottish Youth Parliament British Red Cross Raleigh International Fast Forward

Each group to find out the following information to present back to the group: What kind of volunteering opportunities does the organisation offer? Do you have to have any specific skills or experience? How can you apply? How will it help you and what will you gain from the experience?
