Hundreds of lives get impacted day by day by the support of our volunteers. HOLA volunteers become part of our goal in providing our children a life full of positive development and new opportunities.

SmartStart/Elementary School

Homework Assistance and Tutoring: Volunteers primarily help students with their homework assignments in subjects such as language arts, writing, math, science and social studies. They provide one-to-one assistance when supplemental help is needed. Tutoring hours M – Th from 3:30 pm to 5 pm.

Go Girl Go Program: HOLA is looking for empowering women professionals to teach a one-time class to a small group of girls. This class covers themes such as health, self esteem, friendship, school, sports, and etc. The class can be a lecture or can be an activity. Every week we have a different event. Every event is on Thursdays from 5pm to 6pm - We need a professional woman or an athlete woman per week or event. [one time volunteer opportunity]

Class Assistants: We are looking for committed individuals who enjoy working with children and have a professional demeanor. These classes are once a week from 5 pm to 6 pm. Below is the list of classes that need assistants:

Mondays: · History’s Mysteries: this club will provide students to ask five interrogative questions (who, when, where, why

and how) thereby solving and piecing together all aspects of the proposed adventure. · Physical Education: Students will be developing and be aware of their gross motor skills. Also, students will be

involved with many different movement concept activities using both their upper and lower body muscles.

Tuesdays:· Becoming Authors: Students will write clear and coherent sentences and paragraphs that develop a central idea.

Students will progress through the stages of the writing process. Also, students will write compositions that describe and explain familiar objects, events, and experiences.

· Growing Up Latino: will explore what it means to be Latino/a in the USA. Students will become familiar with famous Latino/a heroes and music. They will also learn how to identify themselves within a culture and history. Throughout the class, each student will interview his/her family members to learn about their ancestors, traditions, and customs.

Wednesdays:· The Book Club: This class will read out loud, listen to the instructor practicing model reading, listen to audio book

version of a story, and actively participate in the reading process. Students will collectively make vocabulary list

of words from the story that they do not understand, in so doing the students will expand their vocabulary and strengthen their reading comprehension.

· Reading Rockets (Language Arts/Reading Comprehension): Students will learn to read and understand grade level appropriate material. In addition to generating and responding to essential questions, making predictions, and comparing information from several sources.

· Study Hall: Students will be given the opportunity to finish their homework during this hour.

Thursdays:· Math Magicians (Statistics Data Analysis & Probability/Mathematical Reasoning): Students will learn about

different mathematical concepts and logical reasoning to problems. Students will be provided with many hands-on, pair sharing or group experiences to incorporate into their math learning.

· Science: students will learn about the different parts of science, such as, life, earth, and physical.

Middle School/BridgesHomework Assistance and Tutoring: Volunteers primarily help students with their homework assignments in subjects such as algebra, reading, writing, and history. They provide one-to-one assistance when supplemental help is needed. Tutoring hours M – Th from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

Town Hall Facilitators: HOLA is looking for empowering women, men or groups of professionals to teach or facilitate activities to a one-time club. This club covers themes such as health, self esteem, friendship, school, sports, and etc. The town hall can be a lecture or can be an activity. Every week we have a different event. Every event is on Mondays from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm - We need a professional woman, man or group per week or event. [one time volunteer opportunity]

Creative Writing Instructor: We are looking volunteers to teach a fun and interactive class in which their writing skills will bring them to a college entry level of writing – fiction, poetry, drama, literature, . Instructor is given the freedom to design its own curriculum and syllabus. This class meets every week (either T, W, or Th) from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

Math Instructor: We are looking for a volunteer to teach a fun and interactive class for students in which their math skills will bring them to a higher level. Instructor is given the freedom to design its own curriculum and syllabi. The name of the class is “Math Adventures” and must be taught once a week (either T, W, or Th) between 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

Science Experiments Instructor: We need an instructor who will be willing to entertain an educational science class including experiments. Volunteer must be experienced in this field and must teach one class a week (either T, W, or Th) from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Instructors can be young adults, adults or older adults who are professionals or educated. This is a great opportunity to share your skills and to create your own syllabus.

Foreign Language Instructor: We need an instructor who can teach a foreign language class such as French, Italian, Chinese among others. Instructor designs its own curriculum and syllabus. Instructor needs to be fluent in the language that he/she will be teaching and be able to accept and interact with kids of other ethnicities. Volunteer must teach one class a week (either T, W, or Th) from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

Spanish Instructor: We need an instructor who will be willing to teach students how to read and write in Spanish. Instructor needs to be fluent in Spanish and willing to be patient with non-Spanish speaking students. Volunteer must teach one class a week (either T, W, or Th) from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. This is a great opportunity to share your skills and to create your own syllabus.

Video Games Instructor: Seeking for instructor who will be teaching students how to play video games and tricks; including working out with the wii. He/she must enjoy interacting with children, needs to be a good role

model, patient and have a good sense of humor. Volunteer must teach one class a week (either T, W, or Th) from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

Internet Expert: We are looking for a volunteer to teach kids how to use the internet efficiently. Expert must be knowledgeable about the different websites that can benefit our students and educate them in this field. Volunteer must teach one class a week (either T, W, or Th) from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

Comic Book Creator: We are looking for a volunteer who would like to share his/her skills by teaching kids how to create comic books. Volunteer must teach one class a week (either T, W, or Th) from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Instructor can be young adult, adult or older adult who is an expert or master in this field. In addition, instructor will have the freedom to design his/her own class and to create own syllabus.

Jewelry Instructor: We are looking for a volunteer who would like to share his/her skills by teaching kids how to design and create their own jewelry. Volunteer must teach one class a week (either T, W, or Th) from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Instructor can be young adult, adult or older adult who is an expert or master in this field. In addition, instructor will have the freedom to design his/her own class and to create own syllabus.

Self Defense Instructor: Seeking for instructor to teach non-violent practical and effective self-defense techniques and prepare students for a variety of situations; including bullying. Instructor must emphasize its practices for self-defense only, and teach students to have a clear understanding of being personally responsible for their actions and attitudes. Volunteer must teach one class a week (either T, W, or Th) from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

Create and teach your own class: We are looking for volunteers to instruct their own class utilizing their own skills. Instructor will be given the creative freedom to design their own curriculum and encouraged to bring new ideas and possibilities to the class. Volunteer must teach one class a week (either T, W, or Th) from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm

High School/ROPEHomework Assistance and Tutoring: Volunteers primarily help students with their homework assignments in subjects such as algebra, physics, calculus, geometry, biology, chemistry, economics, government, and English. They provide one-to-one assistance when supplemental help is needed. Tutoring hours M – Th from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

College Scholarships Mentor: We need professional volunteers to work with high school students and assist them on searching scholarships for college. Volunteers will meet with students every Wednesday from 6:30 pm to 8 pm. Workshops will start on February 2nd to March 30th. Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s degree.

Speech Communication Instructor: Instructor will help students improve their oral communication skills; interview skills, speech and debate. The class must be taught by a person who has experience in motivating students to express themselves and who can teach them the basics of interviewing, speeches, and debate. Volunteer must teach one class a week Monday, Tuesday or Thursday from 6:30 pm to 7:30. In addition, instructor will have the freedom to design his/her own class and to create own syllabus.

Graphic Design Instructor: We are looking for a volunteer who would like to share his/her skills by teaching kids how to create/design logos, websites, blogs, etc. Volunteer must teach one class a week Monday, Tuesday or Thursday from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Instructor can be young adult, adult or older adult who is an expert or master in this field. In addition, instructor will have the freedom to design his/her own class and to create own syllabus.

Computer Builder Instructor: Seeking for instructor to teach our kids how to build computers or how to create something out of computer parts. Instructor will have the freedom to be creative and design his/her own class and to create own syllabus. He/she must teach one class a week, Monday, Tuesday or Thursday from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

Bike Builder Instructor: Instructor will guide and teach our high schoolers in how to build their own bike; in addition to promote environmental education and awareness. Instructor will have the freedom to be creative and design his/her own class and to create own syllabus. He/she must teach one class a week, Monday, Tuesday or Thursday from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

DJ’s & Music Appreciation Instructor: The class will explore the art of DJ music and teach students about DJ-ing as art, and also as a means to start a business on DJ-ing. The class must be taught by an experienced DJ who knows both the technical and practical aspects of the art. This volunteer will have the freedom to be creative and design his/her own class and to create own syllabus. He/she must teach one class a week, Monday, Tuesday or Thursday from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm and must bring own system.

Create and teach your own class: We are looking for volunteers to instruct their own class utilizing their own skills. Instructor will be given the creative freedom to design their own curriculum and encouraged to bring new ideas and possibilities to the class. Volunteer must teach one class a week, Monday, Tuesday or Thursday from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

ARTHomework Assistance and Tutoring: Volunteers primarily help students with their homework assignments in subjects such as language arts, writing, math, science and social studies. They provide one-to-one assistance when supplemental help is needed. Tutoring hours M – Th from 3:30 pm to 5 pm.

Class Assistants: We are looking for committed individuals to assist our students and instructors in their classes; in addition to help clean up, set up, and watch over the kids. Any day or hour during the week would be helpful. Classes are Monday through Friday the following times:

Music/YOLA at HOLA

Homework Assistance/Tutoring and Class Assistants: Volunteers primarily help students with their homework assignments in subjects such as language arts, writing, math, science and social studies. Once

tutoring time is over, these volunteers assist our instructors with students’ supervision, bathroom breaks, and moving students to and from classes. Tutoring and Classes are:

Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 pm to 6:10 pmTuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pmFridays from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 12 pm

AthleticsHomework Assistance and Tutoring: Volunteers will primarily tutor our All Stars Athletes with their homework assignments in subjects such as language arts, writing, math, science and social studies. They provide one-to-one assistance when supplemental help is needed. Tutoring hours M – F from 3:30 pm to 5 pm.

Basketball Coaches and Assistants: Volunteer must coach during practices and games; which entail scheduling practices, training youth once a week and coaching on game day. Practices must be on weekday’s for one hour from 4 pm to 8 pm and Games on Saturdays anytime from 9 am to 5 pm. Coaches will be under the supervision of the Athletics Director. This league is scheduled to start on Mid-January and will continue until the end of April.

Basketball Clinic: We need volunteers to supervise HOLA’s athletes at their clinics. In addition, these volunteers will help with the event set up and clean up. These clinics occur the first Saturday of each month from 12 pm to 3 pm. Every clinic will be taught by a Lakers player. [one time volunteer opportunity]

AlumniHomework Assistance and Tutoring: Volunteers primarily help students with their homework assignments in subjects such as algebra, physics, calculus, geometry, biology, chemistry, economics, government, and English. They provide one-to-one assistance when supplemental help is needed. Tutoring hours are scheduled based on tutor and student availability.

Create and teach your own class: We are looking for volunteers to instruct their own class utilizing their own skills. Instructor will be given the creative freedom to design their own curriculum and encouraged to bring new ideas and possibilities to the class. Volunteer must teach one class a week, Monday - Friday anytime before 2:30 pm.

Special EventsPhotographer and Videographer: Our website is full of opportunities to convey to the community, through pictures and videos, what our programs are all about. We like to keep updated those pictures and videos as often as possible so that our website does not get stale to the people who visit it often. We are seeking for volunteers who can come in when needed to take some great videos or shots to our special events and programs (may asked to volunteer on weekends or evenings.) This person can be anyone from a learning college student to a professional photographer or videographer. Volunteers must use his/her own camera; preferably if volunteer possesses an HD or 3 chip camera.
