Stock Markets and Equity as an Investment avenue
In our weekly meeting on March 30, 2018 President Rtn. Dr. Rita
Kalra was pleased to welcome our own young and energetic
Rotarian, our Director Youth Service Rtn. Nitin Kapur, as the
keynote speaker who gave an interesting presentation on „Stock
Markets and Equity as an Investment avenue‟. Nitin was
introduced by Rtn. Sanjay Bhatia.
Rtn. Nitin Kapur
Nitin is having close to 16 years of
rich experience in Stock Market/
Financial Service Industry. He joined
IIFL in May 2002 at Mumbai in
Research Department and later
shifted to Punjab for Upper North
business development.
Nitin is having AUM (Assets Under
Management) of over Rs. 500 crore.
He has done PGDBM from Chetana's
Institute of Management and
Research, Mumbai in Finance. Nitin is
NCFM Certified in Capital, Mutual Funds and Derivatives Market.
Having written many finance related articles for financial websites,
newspapers and magazines, Nitin has conducted over 100 Investor
meets all across North India.
In his presentation Rtn. Nitin Kapur explained that perception about
the Stock market in general is that this is speculative activity and one
should avoid it completely. He narrated the stories of his driver and
grandmother showing how the greed and fear factor plays in the
stock market, which swings between greed and fear factor. He also
told about how Sir Isaac Newton lost his money in the stock market
depicting the fact that it is not a matter of intelligence as one needs to
control his emotions (greed and fear) to earn handsome returns.
Most of us invest in Fixed Deposits for 6-7% return for lock in
period of 1-3 years. But in case of equities we want to double returns
in months. Considering taxation and inflation, real rate of return is
just 0.5-1% in case of FDs, which will double in 70 years! In case of
Diversified Equity Mutual Fund, if we take the conservative figure of
12%, it will take 8 years to double the money. Nitin adviced, “One
has to diversify his portfolio or invest in diversified equity mutual
fund to enjoy the maximum returns from the equity markets.”
