PASTOR’S PEN

Dear Friends and Families of Windsor UMC,

You will eventually learn that the Book of Isaiah is my favorite book within

the Bible. The hope that is poured forth from the words within Isaiah gives

my heart strength and encouragement. I rejoice that the theme within this

church is the First Song of Isaiah, chapter 12: Surely God is my salvation; I

will trust, and will not be afraid, for the Lord God is my strength and my

might; God has become my salvation. About 10 years ago I cross-stitched

Isaiah 12 and hung it in my house, but a dear member of my church had a

series of devastating events within her life and I gifted her my cross-

stitched reminder of God’s love. I am in the process of cross-stitching a replacement for myself.

We sometimes miss how Isaiah chapter 12 begins: “You will say in that day: I will give thanks

to You, O LORD , for though You were angry with me, Your anger turned away, and You

comforted me.” Believe it or not, I began thinking about what to write to you in this letter by

opening my bible, randomly towards Psalms (which is my usual beginning to prayer) and

landed in Isaiah, chapter 40. The first verse I saw was 40:6, which said: A voice says, “Cry

out!” And I said, “What shall I cry?” Personally, THAT WAS EXACTLY where I was at the time

while thinking about what to write to you. When I scanned Isaiah 40, it begins with “Comfort, O

Comfort my people, says your God. . .”

That began me thinking about what is happening within the church this month. We begin with

All Saints Sunday, on November 4th and Thanksgiving Day at the end of the month. Then my

mind shifted to Windsor’s Isaiah Song: Surely God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be

afraid. . .

During this month we will remember our faith in God as we remember that God does not hide

from the sorrows we encounter within our lives, or the joys and celebrations we experience.

Through all the challenges of life God sends us a word of hope that God’s presence, and God’s

victory is promised to us, even when we cannot perceive it. There will come a day when we

will not need faith, because we will see with our very eyes, our very souls, our very being, that

God has been faithful from everlasting to everlasting; to us and to our loved ones. What a

blessing we have in God’s promises and Word.

Blessings and Peace during this month of November, Pastor Sue

ALL THINGS BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL

‘Then God saw everything that he had made and indeed it was very good.” Genesis 1:31

One day, Mrs. Cecil Frances Alexander, was working with her godson. He was struggling to understand the Apostle’s Creed. She began to think of the possibility of converting the Apostle’s Creed into songs for children, using simple hymns to explain the truths of the Christian faith to little ones. She then wrote this little song based on Genesis 1:31:

“All things bright and beautiful,

All creatures great and small,

All things wise and wonderful,

The Lord God made them all.”

THE LORD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU

The Dead Sea Scrolls were, until recently, our oldest copies of biblical text. In 1979, an archaeologist excavating

a site in Jerusalem’s Hinnom Valley, found a tiny scroll of great antiquity. These tiny omulets, dating to the

Hebrew monarchy, seven

centuries before Christ, were so small and fragile they took over

several years to clean and open. When scientists unrolled them, they found the world’s oldest extant copy of a

biblical text, the words of Numbers 6:24-26.

As the Israelites wandered in the wilderness, the Lord commanded the priests to bless the people with this

blessing. The great evangelist, D.L. Moody said of Numbers 6, “Here is a benediction that can uplift all of you” . . .

Every heart may utter it, every letter may conclude with it, every day may begin with it, every night may be

sanctified by it. It is the Lord himself who gives us this music from heaven’s infinite anthem.

The ancient lyrics have been set to music many times but never more beautiful than the classic tune

“BENEDICTION”, by Peter Christian Lutkin in 1900. A 7-fold amen was added by Peter Lutkin on Page 904 in our

United Methodist Hymnal.

“The Lord bless you and keep you;

The Lord make his face shine upon you;

and be gracious unto you;

The Lord lift up his countenance upon you

and give you peace.”

“AMEN”

NEWS FROM GOD’S BREAD CHOW PANTRY Jill Skinner

The pantry has been very busy serving our family members every Tuesday morning. We receive most of the food

from the Broome County CHOW Warehouse located in Binghamton. We were blessed to receive vegetables and fruits weekly during the summer months from North Windsor Berry Farm, owned and operated by Bill and Linda

Titus. We are very thankful for Carol Carpenetti who fills her car with day old bread and desserts from Weiss

Market.

Each Tuesday the Pantry gives food to those in need. This is a weekly supplement to help stretch their groceries for the week. If you or someone you know might need to take advantage of this program, please contact the

church or Jill Skinner at 655-3031. Application forms are available. Verification of address and verification of

each family member are to be presented with application. There is no cost to the recipient.

We have an excellent staff of volunteers, but many times we need extra help on Tuesday morning during the hours

of 9:30am till Noon to assist our members when picking up their food. Many times during the year help is needed to pick up food donated from Can Construction and the Postal Drive at the CHOW Warehouse. In the fall we usually

receive potatoes that require a pickup truck and strong muscles! We also go to Orchard Hills to pick apples at the

end of the season. These apples are not just for our pantry, but for other pantries in the area.

We appreciate all of our volunteers that help every Tuesday throughout the year.

For we are God’s

handiwork, created in

Christ Jesus to do good

works, which God prepared in advance for

us to do.

SUNDAY SCHOOL ACTION NEWS

Sunday School classes have been very active—finding baby Moses floating in the weeds in the River Jordan, a

Burning Bush actually spoke to us about a very important job; we’ve endured many plagues (one of which landed on Mikey Quinn’s chin!), we made our escape from the land with our unleavened bread dough, quickly sweeping

up all our crumbs with our handmade brooms. Then we followed each other through the wilderness and crossed the Red Sea, leaving behind Pharaohs army and chariots—all with the help of MOSES! As we continue on our

journey, we will focus on the Ten Commandments.

Sounds like fun doesn’t it? We begin Sunday mornings together in Fellowship Hall sharing a 10 minute game,

puzzle or coloring. Then we have group music time with “Miss” Loa Noyd, followed by an exciting bible story

telling us what to expect on our next journey! The teens gather with Shannon Price and Keith Royer; Terry Merrill

-Walker teaches our pre-school through second grade children, while Sue Bennett and Wes Mogenson lead the 3-

5th graders to finish a lesson or project. Bob Bennett, Pastor Sue, and 6 others also contribute to our lessons.

Finally . . . we all gather back together for a delicious snack prepared by Lisa and Megan Henley!

We have missed several of our teachers & mentors—Joan & Keith Royer, Gail Bagg, and the Freers, who bring so

much excitement to our mornings! Please keep Keith and Gail in your prayers following their recent surgeries,. Several of our Sunday School teachers, mentors and church leaders recently completed

the required Safe Sanctuaries training. This assures everyone that we offer a safe and secure

environment for all children and adults in our church building. Additional adult mentors are always

welcome to assist with our exciting activities. Please see Pastor Sue if you feel led to share your

time with us or even lead an Adult Sunday School class!

In early December, we will present our annual Christmas Play. Please watch and listen for

upcoming information on the ways you and your children can participate!

Nursery care for infants - Kindergarten age is offered during the 11:00am worship. Thanks to Emily

Forbidussi and Rita Faigle, who lovingly provide a safe space for our children!
