The Turkey By: Andrea Guerrero
Vroom! As my mom and I drove home
with a turkey on my lap, we talked about
ideas on how to decorate the table, the house,
and the turkey. It’s 4:00 PM and the dinner
is at 6:30PM. There is still so much to do!
“Here are the keys!” my mom said. As I
scrambled to look for the right keys, my
mind is racing. “How are we going to get
everything done in two hours?” Whoosh! I
set the turkey on the table and went to sleep
for about 15 minutes, while my mom was
preparing the turkey for cooking. When I
woke up, I helped my mom put the turkey in
the oven, set the timer, and closed the door.
Just as I was going to turn it on, the door
popped open and miraculously, as if on cue,
the turkey said, “Hi! My name is Bob and I
will not let you cook me!” and there he went,
running like a maniac around the house.
“Come here you…!” “You will never get
me!” he yelled. Finally, I chased him down
into the oven, closed the door, and turned it
on. “Honey, Honey” I heard my mom’s
voice. “Wake up.” “Huh?” I retorted. “You
went to sleep!” she said. “Now help me with
the decorations.” Guessed that turkey thing
was just a dream… or was it?
Birds are the third largest class
of animals in the world. The
birds group includes birds such
as the kiwi, penguin, ostrich, Peregrine
Falcon, turkey, chicken, Bald Eagle, parrots, and
plenty more. Did you know the chicken is the
closest relative to the T-Rex? Birds are one of the
only two living relatives of the dinosaurs today (the
others are the crocodiles and alligators).
Here are some interesting tidbits about birds:
Some birds are birds of prey, which means they
are carnivores or eat meat.
Toucans live only in the Amazon and in Africa.
They are known for their large and colorful
beaks. This is my favorite type of bird.
Turkeys almost became the United States
national bird. Turkey males have a fan of
feathers on their backs to attract females. They
have a red pouch that hangs on their beak,
called a wattle. Were you aware that only the
male turkey makes the gobble sound?
Colonies of penguins usually move in huge
groups and huddle to keep warm. Penguins are
very good swimmers and can swim up to fifteen
miles an hour. They paddle the ocean water
with their wings to find foods such as shrimp,
squid and krill. . Penguins mate for life. Both
the male and female take turns taking care of
the egg and chick. .
Birds are quite
chirpy animals!

Winter Time
By: Ashley Arbelaez
It's time for fall to say good-bye
And welcome winter this way
The green leaves are starting
to start to fade away
The snow comes down
In the dark of the night
Then when we awake
The whole world is a blanket of white
Clouded with snow
The cold winds blow,
We get our sleds
And away we go
by: Ashley Arbelaez
Snowflakes, snowflakes, they are all so cool
Snowflakes, snowflakes, dissolve in my pool
Snowflakes, I will never forget
Snowflakes, they would never get me upset

Behind-the-scenes interview with
Ms. J. Alvarez
By: Michelle Do & Ashley Arebelaez
As we were excitedly stepped into Ms. Alvarez’s
huge music room, she WASN’T THERE!! “AHHHHHHH!
What are we going to do? Today was our last hope!”
screamed Ashley. We were strolling back to our class
with gloomy faces. There was Ms. Alvarez, standing
there with a crazy cowboy hat on.
“YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!” exclaimed Michelle dancing
around in the hallways. We asked Ms. Alvarez if we
could have an interview with her in her classroom , and
she nodded with a grin. In our hearts there was a little
creature that kept on making us excited and nervous,
which made Michelle’s teeth chatter and Ashley’s legs
quiver.

Winter Songs
Winter Wonderland
Sleigh bells ring are you listening
In the lane snow is glistening
A beautiful sight
We’re happy tonight
Walking in a winter wonderland
Gone away is the bluebird
Here to stay is the new bird
He sings a love song
As we go along
Walking in a winter wonderland
In the meadow we can build a
snowman
Then pretend that he is Parson
Brown
He’ll say: Are you married?
We’ll say: No man
But you can do the job when
you’re in town
Later on, we’ll conspire
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid
The plans that we’ve made
Walking in a winter wonderland
In the meadow we can build a
snowman
And pretend that he’s a circus clown
We’ll have lots of fun with mister
snowman
Until the other kids knock him down
When it snows ain’t it thrilling
Though your nose gets a chilling
We’ll frolic and play
The Eskimo way
Walking in a winter wonderland
Jingle Bells
Dashing through the snow
In a one horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bob tails ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to laugh and sing
A sleighing song tonight
Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
A day or two ago
I thought I'd take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
Was seated by my side
The horse was lean and lank
Misfortune seemed his lot
We got into a drifted bank
And then we got upset
Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh yeah
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh
