By attending weekly after-school art lessons in our art enrichment program, they have had the opportunity to practise, and further refine, their art skills. They have learned the properties of various art materials, tools, and methods of application. The program has covered both traditional, modern and abstract art. These students have shown a passion for art and will enter secondary school with a wider understanding and appreciation of the visual arts. F abric collage formed part of our unit on Threads and Textiles. A variety of fabrics, textures and colours were used to create designs.

S oft pastels and charcoal sticks have been helpful in developing drawing skills. Students have chosen a variety of objects to draw as still-life, while others

have based their drawings on organic and geometric shapes.

C urriculum Contributions A reminder letter for outstanding curriculum contributions, outlining

the significance of their payment to the resourcing of the school, has already been forwarded.. A well-resourced school not only means greater opportunities for our children to learn, but provides teaching staff with greater options in delivering interesting and stimulating activities that make a difference to the educational experience. Outstanding payments can be made via Qkr! on our Skoolbag App or at the school office between 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. We sincerely thank those families who have already made payment. Your support towards the enhancement of the quality education the children are receiving is very much appreciated.

C hinese Language and Culture Certificates of Excellence for participation in the Discover Jiangsu Australian Sister School Program September 21st to October 3rd were awarded to all participants at our assembly last week. On Wednesday, this week, the experiences of the visitation were shared with families at a “post visitation presentation evening”. This provided opportunity for families to view videos and photographs, and hear of personal anecdotes capturing the memorable event!

S ports Shorts—Kanga 10s and Cricket On Wednesday, selected year 6 students participated in the annual district ‘Kanga 10s’

round robin carnival. It was a fantastic day for all of the students involved. The concept of Kanga 10s is a mini version of 20/20 cricket. There were plenty of big shots, run outs and classic catches. The girls’ A team made the Grand Final; unfortunately we lost to Berwick. The remaining teams all finished in 3rd or 4th place. Some eye catching performances were given by Arbhi, Kamal, Muneeb, Ty, Muginga and Max were great for the boys. With the girls, Holly, Raven, Jashan Tina, Taleisha, Hannah and Brishti were prominent all day. Our captains for the day Arbhi, Ashley, Brishti and Holly were superb, showing super leadership. Most pleasing to see was the magnificent sportsmanship displayed by our students, not only with the opposition but with each other. Well done and congratulations to all of our participants. For any girl who is interested in playing cricket please contact Ian from the Berwick Cricket Club. For further information please call Ian on 0414 716 824. Thanks. Jim Narayan

This week is Science Week at Brentwood Park Primary School and the whole school has been par-ticipating in a range of hands-on experiences. Grades 2CM and 2DK joined forces with their buddy grades, 3LM and 3MF, to make balloon rockets. The children watched instructional video clips on you tube before working in small co-operative teams of four, and later eating lunch together.

Get ready, get set for Walk to School 2017! Brentwood Park Primary School has joined the hundreds of primary schools across Victoria for a fun month of walking, riding and scooting to and from school. By participating, we have a chance to win some great prizes! So every time our local families walks, rides or scoots to and from school during October, you increase our school’s chance of winning! In 2017, we’re encouraging our kids to put their best foot forward by decorating their shoes, bikes or scooters to make Walk to School even more fun. Get involved with us for Walk to School and help your family build healthy habits for life: walktoschool.vic.gov.au. About Walk to School Every October, VicHealth’s Walk to School encourages Victorian primary school kids and their families to walk, ride or scoot to and from school every day. It’s a great way for the whole family to increase their physical activity levels. Plus, it is a chance to enjoy more time with your kids and meet other local families along the way. Along with the health benefits, it also reduces traffic congestion, saves on parking, helps us connect with family and friends and saves the environment! Part way is okay! If you can’t walk the whole way, why not try parking the car a few blocks from your school and walk, ride or scoot the rest. Last year, more than 144,000 kids and their families took part in the program walking the equivalent of two return trips to the moon and with your families help, we can make 2017 our biggest year yet! There are so many great reasons to participate in Walk to School this October and we’re excited to be part of the fun because getting active is even more fun when we do it together!

P LEASE DIRECT MONEY FOR EXCURSIONS, ETC TO YOUR CLASSROOM TEACHER - NOT TO THE OFFICE.

Please hand money and permission slip in sealed envelopes to classroom teacher first thing in the morning. By following this process teachers are aware that your child will be attending the excursion and mark them off

their lists. Money is collected by office staff and processed each morning and a receipt given back to teachers along with permission slips. All money is tallied and banked daily – no money is left on the premises. If you wish to pay by credit card, a proforma is available from the office. This can be filled out with details and placed in a sealed envelope and handed to your classroom teacher

Please deliver cash in a sealed envelope with your child’s name and grade on the front by 9.30 a.m. If you have a number of children attending an excursion you can place all money and permission slips in the one envelope with children’s names and grades on the front and deliver to one of the children’s teachers. The office staff will be able to allocate money to the children’s particular items and distribute permission slips and receipts back to teachers. Enve-lopes are available at the office. If you have a large amount to be paid or need to process an EFTPOS transaction through a savings account you can make arrangements to pay at the office. We also have a new Qkr payment system on our Skoolbag app. If you download our Skoolbag app and Qkr payment app you can now pay for your child’s excursion on line.

All change will be delivered to the children in the afternoon. Re-imbursements will only be made under certain circumstances – they will be made by cheque (no cash transactions are made).

Notices are sent out with a final collection time – please adhere to this time. All money and permission slips are required to be sent back by this date – otherwise your child will not be able to attend. This enables us to confirm bookings and numbers with bus companies and organisations we are visiting. Also we need to send details to the De-partment of Education Emergency Management for all excursions, camps, etc. We also need to accommodate students who will not be attending.

We would appreciate it if parents could please follow these processes.
