A Note From The Pastor Come, thou long expected Jesus, born to set thy people free; from our fears and sins release us, let us find our rest in thee. Israel's strength and consolation, hope of all the earth thou art; dear desire of every nation, joy of every longing heart. The United Methodist Hymnal, #196

One of my favorite songs of the Christmas season is Come Thou Long Expected Jesus. It is a song about waiting and while I love the song I am not very good at waiting. And so we

enter that season in the church year where we wait and prepare. Advent is the season where we prepare our hearts for Christ’s coming. The dates of Advent vary each year but the season always contains the four Sundays before Christmas day. During the season the sanctuary is decorated with holly and ivy and the beautiful Chrismon tree. Dur-ing each Sunday of Advent we will light a new candle on the Advent wreath. The wreath has four candles in a perfect circle and one candle in the center, the Christ candle. The first candle we will light is the candle of hope. Then the candles of peace, joy, and love. Finally, on Christmas Eve we will light the Christ candle, symbolizing the light of Christ coming into the world. I hope that throughout the month that you will take time each day to think about the hope, peace, joy, and love of this amazing time. Come, thou long expected Jesus. In the midst of our busy lives and a hectic season we still expect the Christ child to show up.

Peace,

Service of Hope

6:00 pm in the Sanctuary

The magic of the holidays is often missing for those suffering grief and loss. Bright lights and the sounds

of Christmas Carols do not always lift heavy hearts. If you or someone you know is experiencing the

loneliness and sadness of loss, you are not alone. On December 21 at 6:00 pm, the longest night of the

year, First United Methodist Church of Nacogdoches will have a worship service honoring and

remembering our losses in a place of faith, hope and love, where prayers, music and messages will

comfort and uplift you.

Christmas Wishes (Dec 4-16)

This year our angel tree will be supporting children in foster care here in

the Nacogdoches community through the Court Appointed Special Ad-

vocates (CASA) of Deep East Texas. The angels will be available for you

to choose from on Sunday, December 4, and gifts will need to be returned

no later than Friday, December 16. Please put unwrapped gifts in one gift

bag per child, along with the child's angel tag hanging on the bag. We are

excited to reach out to this special group of children in our community. For

more information contact Jenny Johnston at 936-462-3056.

E/CALL AND CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING

Many of you have had a study with Rev. Adam Hamilton in your Sunday School Class, now you can join him as he leads a fascinating and in-spirational journey following the last of the Paul’s missionary voyages. Sailing from Rome, we will explore the lands and ex-perience the life and ministry of the great Apostle. Deploy your every sense as we soak in the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of the Mediterranean world. Sur-rounded by ancient hills and rolling seas, the truth of scripture will spring to life dur-ing times of practical Bible study, power-ful worship, and fun-filled fellowship. More than the places we visit, though, the people with whom we visit will make all the difference during this holy experience – more than a vacation, this will be a pil-grimage that will touch and change your life forever. The trip is October 6-17, 2017. The first discount deadline is De-

cember 6th. Brochures with sign up information are available in the church office.
