Our81stYear!

THE OFFICIAL MAGAZINE OFLIFE-STUDY FELLOWSHIP, NOROTON, CONN., U.S.A.

The approach of a New Year isalways filled with anticipation,Dear Friend, as we cast off oldthinking and habits from lastyear and start anew.

If any year needed to be pushedoff into the rear view mirror, itwas 2020. That’s why we are look-ing forward to this New Year withgreat anticipation, and why wechose the Bible Verse above fromPsalms 55:22 as the theme of this

New Year FAITH. “Cast ThyBurden Upon the Lord!” is a fit-ting message, reminding us Godis always with us, waiting to han-dle whatever problem we handover to Him.

The Lord is never pushy abouttelling us what to do. Instead, when the time is right, He willreveal the best way to resolve theissue you told Him about inprayer. You will find that you just

know what to do, although youmay have been confused aboutthe right course of action to takebefore you prayed about it.

That’s also what we inFellowship mean when we say,“Let go and let God.” It’s an oldsaying, but a wise one, thatencourages you to let go of yourconcerns and let God handlethem. Of course, He often asks usto play a role in solving a stickysituation. But with His help, youcan be certain there will be agood solution.

On Page 6, Betty M. fromNorth Dakota recounted howshe believes the Lord sent her asignal to keep her off the roadand safe from a bad accident. She was at a party and suddenlyfelt faint when she was about toleave. Betty ended up stayingthe night at her friend’s home, and later learned those who leftbefore her had gotten hurt whenthey ran off the road in a storm. “I looked at my friend and it

suddenly hit me . . . If I hadn’tfelt faint, I would have been dri-ving through the same area asthe guests who left the day before.God had intervened to save mefrom being badly hurt in a caraccident!”

Yes, the Lord’s messages canarrive in a variety of ways . . .sometimes subtle, sometimesnot.

On Page 8 of this FAITH,you’ll read a warm and lovingletter from Member Cathy G. ofIllinois, who told us about thetough times she went throughlast year, as a result of the coro-

navirus shutdown. We werethrilled to learn Faith Magazineand Fellowship played a role inlifting her spirits! “I finally received your Faith

Magazine and wanted to crytears of joy,” Cathy wrote. “Thistremendous little magazine hasbeen a rock to me. It gives mestructure every day. When I firstget up and place my feet on thefloor in the morning, I read yourMorning Prayer and look up theScripture for the Day. “Thank You for what you all

do. Keep up the good work. I prayfor you all and I praise God forpeople like you. May God keepyou in His loving embrace.”

Letters like Cathy’s are a shin-ing example of why we do whatwe do, Dear Friend. We strive tobe an inspiration to all, in goodtimes and bad times. Please, letus know how Fellowship hasinspired you, too!

“God Intervened To Save Me From Being Badly Hurt!”

I have friends who don’t thinkGod can actually intervene inour lives to help us changecourse when needed. They thinkwe all just go through life, tossedhere and there upon a sea ofrandom circumstances.

Well, my Dear Friends, I knowbetter, because I believe the Lorddirectly intervened in my life tokeep me safe. Here is what hap-pened:

Many years ago, I was at aparty at the home of a friend. She lived way out of town, off along dirt road. There were morethan a dozen people there andwe were having a good time. After a few hours it was time togo home. We knew some stormyweather was coming and every-one wanted to escape that.

As the other guests and Ipicked up our car keys to leave, Iwas overcome with a feeling ofbecoming light-headed. I had tosit down and thought I mightfaint.

The others waited to see if Iwas going to be OK, and once itlooked like I was getting better, they all loaded up in their carsand drove off.

I tried to stand up, but felt

faint again, so my friend sug-gested that I spend the nightwith her. So, that’s what I did.We talked for a while and caughtup on what each of us had beendoing. It was very nice to havethat extra time to talk to myfriend one-on-one, and I went tosleep happy and feeling good.

The next day, there was notrace of my light-headed feeling.I had breakfast and my friendturned on the TV to watch thenews. We both were shockedwhen we saw there had been abad accident several miles upthe road on which my friendlived . . . and that it had involvedtwo of the cars with our friendswho left the day before! Theyhad run into bad weather andran off the road, only to hit atree. Both cars were badly dam-aged and the people inside weretaken to the hospital withinjuries.

I looked at my friend and itsuddenly hit me . . . If I hadn’tfelt faint, I would have beendriving through the same areaas the guests who left the daybefore. God had intervened tosave me from being badly hurtin a car accident!

To this day, I am sure that’swhat happened. I say my prayersevery day to stay close to theLord, because you never knowwhat set of circumstances arelurking right around the corner!

Dear Friends at Life-StudyFellowship,

Where do I begin? God is good! Then, there is you! The virus putme out of work as I am an aideon a special needs van for youngadults. We did get the minimumwage for the past school year, which I am forever counting asone of my many blessings. Wewere scheduled to return towork Aug. 19, depending on thesituation.

But, I am grateful. So grateful. For the months that I did notreceive your Faith Magazine,(When Fellowship was shut downdue to the coronavirus), it left medevastated. You have helped tokeep me going during all theadversities that I and my sonhave experienced starting inFeb. 2003, with the illness of myhusband and his passing. Hewas my son’s best buddy. It hasbeen hard for him. His fatherleft him his hot rod, which theyused to drive all over for carshows. My son ended up havingto sell his own car.

We had much debt after myhusband’s passing. We were

doing so well this past year, starting in January, and then hisovertime stopped prior toChristmas and my son was laidoff because of the shutdown.

But, God has been loving andkind to us despite all this. Icould go on and fill in what allhas transpired. But, I finallyreceived your Faith Magazineand wanted to cry tears of joy. This tremendous little magazinehas been a rock to me. It givesme structure every day. When Ifirst get up and place my feet onthe floor in the morning, I readyour Morning Prayer and lookup the Scripture for the Day.

As I prepare my son’s break-fast and lunch, before he leavesfor his new job at the railroad inthree towns over, I speak to theLord and thank Him for all ofYou, and my family, my job, andbills being paid. And, there is somuch more I could tell you ofthat. I am so thankful!

Finally, I want to repeat,Thank You for what you all do.Keep up the good work. I prayfor you all and I praise God forpeople like you. May God keepyou in His loving embrace. Ihope that this letter gives you allencouragement when you findyour difficulties and trials inthese troubled times to be over-whelming.

With love always! Member Cathy G., Illinois

In Fellowship, we often talkabout turning your problemsover to the Lord and letting Himhandle them. That idea is at thevery foundation of prayer, DearMember, and really, what betterway to grow and deepen yourrelationship with God?

That’s the theme of this FaithMagazine, as the saying goes . . .to “Let go and let God.” That oldsaying is supported by Scripturein Psalms 55:22, which says,“Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee.”

So, what kinds of thingsshould you let the Lord handle?Well, basically any problem ormajor decision, or anything inyour life that you can’t easilyresolve yourself !

Do you feel downtrodden byjob-related challenges such asthose that affected millions ofAmericans last year? Talking toGod about those things canbring you a sense of peace, forYou can be sure He will revealthe best path for you to take.

Or, perhaps you feel emotion-ally overwhelmed by familyissues or a person with whomyou have to interact. That’s thekind of thing our Dear Lord canadvise you on as well. Throughprayer, you can always ask Himwhat to do and He will respondin His way, and the proper time.

The Lord’s answers may notcome in a conventional form.

You may suddenly just realizethere is a solution to a problem, one you couldn’t see before youspoke to God in prayer.

His way is truly a healing ofthe mind and soothing of thesoul. That inner peace enablesus to think more clearly and seethe opportunities in life, not justthe obstacles. God’s guidanceand direction can lift you out ofold habits and provide reassur-ance that you can do what youneed to do to correct a situationor reach an elusive goal.

The Lord doesn’t do this alone,of course. You are His partner, because you are following Hisadvice up with action. That’s awinning combination to moveforward and get things done!

Let Go And Let God: His Guidance Will Lift You Up!

Thirty-two months! That’s thetime I had to spend in prison.

Yes, my Fellow Members, Iwas involved in a crime and thejudge rightfully sentenced me toa prison term. The first eight ofthose months I didn’t care if Ilived or died. I was miserable. But then, someone got me inter-ested in Life-Study Fellowship, and it changed my life!

I decided to write to you, and Ibecame a Member. What a dif-ference it made to me during therest of the time I was in prison!

Honestly, your SpecialPrayers and your letters keptme alive! I grew closer to God,and I was confident that once Iwas released from prison, theLord would help me find a won-derful new life.

Finally, the day came when Iwas able to leave. I was a freeman at last! As I walked out ofprison I asked the Lord to pleasekeep me going in the right direc-tion. Never again did I want toget into any kind of trouble.

I went back to stay with myparents until I could decidewhat to do next. They told methey simply could not believethe change in me. And they wereso glad about what ourFellowship had done to lead meto God.

We all prayed together that Imight find a good job and re-establish myself. And the Lordanswered those prayers through

one of our neighbors! He came over to talk to me one

morning and said he had anopening with his company if Iwould like the position. He toldme he knew all about my pastand for me not to worry about it.

That, Dear Friends, is how Ihave this wonderful job today, and I am working for a veryunderstanding boss. I have ahappy home life, too. In fact, Ihave a completely new life and Ithank God for it!

I am in His Hands, and what abeautiful feeling that is. I foundHim in a lonely prison cell, andHe has never left me!

At the beginning of a NewYear everyone is full of resolu-tions and confidence about howto achieve them. We’ve all heardthat old saying, “There’s no timelike the present!”

In that spirit, let’s talk aboutplanning ahead to make 2021 agood year, to move forward fromthe problems of its predecessor. If you have some special changeyou would like to see in our life, then why not make up yourmind right now to do somethingabout it? You. . . and the Lord . . .know yourself best, so only youcan make the changes you seek.Just waiting and worrying won’tever help those changes happen.

Try planning ahead for thethings you wish to achieve. It’sas simple as deciding that youwill no longer live in the past, because that’s where peopleoften get bogged down, unable toget out of a rut. In contrast, ifyou plan ahead and seek God’shelp to make good things hap-pen, you can work with Him toshape your own future. Then, you will have only pleasantmemories to look back on, andbe assured you did the rightthing.

That’s a wonderful attitudetoward life and one we all shouldadopt. It’s the positive idea thatwe aren’t just pawns, whippedaround by circumstancesbeyond our control, but peoplewho actively play a role in deter-

mining how our lives will playout. Of course, we must recog-nize God plays the ultimate rolein our lives, as He can help usmake good choices to guide uson our journey. We only need totalk to Him in prayer for that tohappen, then watch and listenfor His answer. It may comewhen you least expect it!

So, as you head into this NewYear, Dear Member, let it be thedawn of a new day for you. Yes,we hope you tell yourself that, in2021 nothing will be impossiblefor you to accomplish, so long asyou have God and good sense onyour side.

Have a happy, healthy andprosperous New Year!

Dear Member, this is where weusually talk about Fellowship’sSpecial Help Department thatoffers personalized prayer help, and ask you to write down on thelines of Page 17 whatever isbothering you right now, so youcan ask our Department to helpyou talk to God with that prob-lem.

But as you may have noticed, there’s a fun Fellowship BibleQuiz for adults and kids on thenext page. So, we just want totake this opportunity to talkabout the letters we oftenreceive from our Members, andhow much that means to us.

You’ve no doubt heard us talkabout prayer. It’s the way we cancommunicate our feelings toGod and ask Him to grace uswith guidance, wisdom, prosper-ity and a host of other things wemay need or want at any time. Infact, many of you, our DearFriends, write us to say howprayer has brought wonderfulchanges into your lives!

Just read what our MemberSandy B. in New Jersey wrote tosay about that:“Dear Fellowship,“I just want to thank you for

sending me the most beautifulprayers to help me talk to theLord about getting my son somehelp for his drug problem. I havedone everything I can myself, andnothing has worked. So, I knew I

needed to bring in the ultimateadviser, God. I received myprayer help in just a short time, and began using my prayers inthe morning and at night. And,I’m happy to say that, little by lit-tle, I began noticing a change inmy son! He told me he really istrying to get off the drugs he wasusing. We went to a clinic thathelps people like him and he hasbeen going to classes there andtaking medication to help withthe physical side effects. Now, I am very hopeful that I’ll

get back the boy I raised, thanksto the loving intervention of Godand help from all of you inFellowship.”

Sandy’s story is a reminderjust how powerful prayers canbe, and how God offers assis-tance on His timeline to give thebest effect, not ours.

With God’s Help, You Can Make Big Changes In Your Life!

I’ve been a Member ofFellowship for more than adecade now, so I almost feel as ifI know all of my FellowMembers personally.

I suppose it’s only natural forme to want to tell you this story.

It’s probably one of the mostimportant chapters of my life, atime of remorse and a time oftriumph.

The remorse, and depression, came as I sat quietly in the doc-tor’s office and listened to himtell me: “I’m sorry Renee, butyou’re going to have to give upyour job and retire. With that badback of yours, you simply can’tgo on working. Besides, you’vereached an age where you shouldtake it easy.”

I don’t believe I’ve ever beenso down as I was that evening, asI wandered around my littleapartment recalling the doctor’swords. I enjoyed my job, and Idreaded the thought of retire-ment. Fortunately, I had a mod-est income. Money wasn’t myworry. I was afraid of lonelinessand uselessness!

Several weeks after I resignedfrom work, I realized that myfears were justified. I was reallymiserable sitting home alone, day after day.

Was this it? Empty hours andself-pity? No, I decided! I had todo something, and I did! I got intouch with Fellowship’s SpecialHelp Department and in a shorttime I received your wonderful

prayers and a letter of guidanceand encouragement.

Well, the Lord really answeredthose prayers! He gave me the“spark” I needed to go out andfind something useful to do. Iwent to a nearby convalescenthome and said (a few years ago)I wanted to donate a few hourseach week to helping thepatients. I fixed their hair, helped them apply a little make-up and offered a little cheering-up.

It was something I was physi-cally able to do, and it was a joyto see how much they appreciat-ed my visits. I felt loved andappreciated by all those patientswho have helped me as much asI have helped them.

I Thank the Lord andFellowship for showing me howto live the Giving Life!

What is it that makes Life-Study Fellowship’s prayer helpand Daily Prayers so great? And,why do so many of ourFellowship Friends feel thatFellowship has helped them tofoster a close relationship withGod?

We like to think it’s a personaltouch that Fellowship brings toour prayer help, and the ideathat hundreds upon hundreds ofyour Fellow Members are pray-ing with and for you during ourThree Daily Prayers.

Especially when Fellowshipstarted out many decades ago,the idea of taking your troublesdirectly to the Lord in prayerand talking to Him as a dearfriend . . . might have been anunusual idea. Add to that, youcan do it in the comfort of yourown home and at your conve-nience.

It creates a pact between youand the Lord, Dear Friend, areassuring promise that whenyou believe in Him, He will helpyou with whatever problem youbring.

There is no price for theLord’s help, ever. All He asks isfor you to keep the faith in Him.In return, God will offer guid-ance to keep you on the righttrack through life, offer comfortand support in tough times, anda refreshed outlook on theWorld. The latter comes from

knowing the Lord has got yourback, so to speak, and is watch-ing over you. That alone pro-vides a feeling of inner peaceand tranquility, for it means youdon’t have to constantly be outthere fighting for your place inline, or in the sun. No, that placeis already saved for you whenyou have a faithful relationshipwith the Lord.

Of course, it probably soundsto good to be true if you’re hear-ing this for the first time. Buttrust us Dear Friend, you cancount on Fellowship to be therefor you whenever you needprayer help. And you can counton God to be in your cornerwhen you seek Him out andexpress your deepest concerns, through faithful prayer.

You Can Count On God To Be In Your Corner When You Pray!

HymnTake Time To Be Holy!

Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord;Abide in Him always, and feed on His word.Make friends of God's children, help those who are weak,Forgetting in nothing, His blessing to seek.

Take time to be holy, the world rushes on;Spend much time in secret, with Jesus alone.By looking to Jesus, like Him thou shalt be;Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.

Take time to be holy, let Him be thy guide,And run not before Him, whatever betide. In joy or in sorrow, still follow the Lord,And, looking to Jesus, still trust in His word.

Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul,Each thought and each motive beneath His control. Thus led by his spirit to fountains of love, thou soon shalt be fitted for service above.

Some Members have inquiredabout how they might make abequest to Life-Study Fellowship.

Through the years, manyMembers have chosen to remem-ber our Fellowship in this spe-cial way and we are truly grate-ful. Some Members have includ-ed Fellowship in their wills, while others have named Life-Study Fellowship in their lifeinsurance policies.

If you are interested in makingarrangements through your will,we suggest you talk with anattorney who can explain the taxadvantages and ways to go aboutmaking such a bequest.

Please remember that it is toeverybody’s advantage to have awill. This doesn’t apply just tothe very wealthy. The truth iseveryone who owns any propertyneeds a will to direct who shouldbenefit.

Otherwise, some or all of yourproperty will be split up accord-ing to state law, which may leaveyour property in ways you didnot want or intend.

Therefore, whether or not youinclude a bequest to Life-StudyFellowship, we encourage you toseek the services of an attorneyto have a will drawn up if youhave not already done so.

In a World full of greed, hurt and dismay,

I find joy in Faith Magazine every day.

For Years, I’ve thanked God

For my Fellowship Friends,

It seems that their caring,

It just never ends.

They respond to my problems

No matter how small,

A more devoted Friend,

I just cannot recall.

Except God Himself,

Who sent them to me,

To provide some structure

Of what is to be.

With this help from Life-Study Fellowship

I am happy to say,

That I read Scripture and pray

Throughout every day.

So, if you haven’t taken the opportunity

Perhaps you should look,

Into our Friends at Fellowship

And FAITH, our “Little Paperback Book.”
