As we reflect on the final days of

the 2012 calendar year we re-member the passing of our es-teemed colleague and friend Ian Gorman in July. Ian represented International Cargo Solutions Australia with dignity and professionalism at all FFSI conferences throughout the world for the past 12 years. Ian was a staunch supporter of FFSI and one of his many achieve-ments was being elected to the FFSI Executive Council and a men-tor to new members. Ian joined the customs and freight forwarding industry in 1966 in Sydney, Australia, and gained his customs brokers licence in 1972. Between 1991-2000, Ian was involved in many industry associa-tions including a Director of (AFAFF) Australian Federation of Air Freight Forwarders, and a

Director of (AFIF) Australian Fed-eration of International Forward-

ers. During this time Ian also represented AFAFF and AFIF on the Executive Council of (FAPPA) Federation of Asia Pacific Air Cargo Associations and held the Chairmanship of that association between 1998-1999. Ian was also an executive member of the (CBFCA) Customs Brokers Council of Australia for 6 years and received the President’s award for meritorious service to the CBFCA NSW in 2008. Ian played an integral role in the freight development of all ICS Australia offices and his contributions will be missed. Ian is survived by his wife Diane, 3 sons and 6 granddaughters.

To work out better costing

for client, IGS has worked out loading plan of 6pipes on each trailer. This way it will reduce total number of trips to site as well as break bulk

vessel will be empty within 3-4 working days. Initially while loading pipes on second layer(5th & 6th pipe) because of small diameter of pipes (i.e 0.9meter) some of the pipes were slipping at bottom. After 2 trailer loading, IGS based on past experience and good knowledge on pipe handling. We changed and added wooden stoppers/wedges and provided riggers at port to perform proper lashing and chocking of pipes. Sunil Dakua—Assistant Manager (Port Operations)

IGS QATAR PROJECT SUCCESS STORY

“ To get this project in our favour, we had many competition in-cluding Multinational and local Project Logistics company. But cli-ent has awarded business in IGS favour, considering its past ex-perience in handling pipe direct delivery shipment and because if its proactive and professional operation team. For IGS, we take all project shipment very personally and make ensure that we handled full job A to Z with all safety, cost factor and service levels in mind. “ “Usually other companies bid and try to get projects based on lower quotation. IGS always try to give landed cost analysis to clients and work on Open Books concept where client knows what they are paying and for what and have full confidence that IGS Team will make ensure all work will be taken care with full safety and client’s requirement in mind” Jigar Shah—Assistant General Manager IGS Qatar. At site also, to handled this specific diameter of pipes, IGS took intiative and fabricated special hooks/angles with special coating so that while lifting, it will not affect pipe inner surface and op-eration of lifting is smooth and safe. IGS has in past has experience in handling such heavy & over size pipe Logistics within Qatar. In 2008-2009, IGS has handled Kuboto, Japan pipes for one of the German Construction company for Doha-Express Highway. It wasapprox 600+ direct delivery and transport to site.

This year, Intereu-ropa celebrates 65 years of exis-tence, as the de-velopment of our

partner started in 1947. Today INTEREUROPA is a leading logistics provider serving the 5th and 10th pan-European Transport Corridor, where the main focus is on central Europe and South East Europe. The growth into an international logistics provider began in Slove-nia’s littoral, a region at the head of the Adriatic Sea and there-fore at a junction of routes linking Central and Western Europe

with the Southern and South-eastern portions of the continent.

Koper is still today Intereuropa’s Head Quarter and important lo-gistics point, as during last sixty years the Koper port grown to important European port system. INTEREUROPA followed this significant growth thus presently oper-ates over 250.000 m2 of modern warehouses and employs 2.000 employees. Beside its infrastructure and strong network within 10 European countries, Intereuropa sees the advantage also in obtained AEO status (Authorised Economic Operator) and as a member in FIATA, IATA, FONASBA, BIMCU, IRU and our FFSI network. Strong network and reliable services: Intereuropa manages the network and own logistics infrastructure through different types of comprehensive logistic services in three basic segments:

SEA & AIR transport mainly through Koper port (Slovenia) and

Rijeka port (Croatia) and important airports in the region as Ljubl-jana, Zagreb, Belgrade;

Land transport (LTL service, express transport, FTL transport,

railway transport, customs services and distribution of spare parts); Logistics solutions (warehousing with distribution and logistics pro-jects).

Intereuropa organizes daily LTL service from Koper and Ljubljana Hub to important European logistics Hubs in Germany, Austria,

Hungary, Slovakia, southern Germany, Italy etc. With their internal network they are especially strong in LTL ser-vice within Adriatic region - between Slovenia and Croatia, Bosnia

and Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Albania. KOPER – important European Sea-freight HUB Koper is Intereuropa’s Sea-freight Hub, where three warehouses with total capacity of 12.000 m2 are operated. The ideal position at very northern point of the Mediterranean region gives an opportunity to cover European market with lean and agile logistics processes. Within 48 hours all important logistics Hubs in the region can be reached. Moreover, through their strong relations with global Container carriers, that call Adriatic Sea with direct services from Far East

destinations, they secure competitive inbounds and outbound rates. Namely, Maersk and CMA-CGM; and Evergreen, Hanjin and Yang Ming operate two weekly direct services, where the total transit time to Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava, Munich etc. is much

shorter compared with services to North Europe.

Just in Koper branch office they employ over 100 experienced

employees.

TURKEY TRANSORIENT INTERNATIONAL FORWARDING LTD. TRANSORIENT CERTIFIED BY D&B WITH RATING CERTIFICATE

Following an internationally-recognized evaluation conducted by Dun & Bradstreet firm exclusively for Transorient, we have been granted A2 credit rating by 6 July 2012. Operating throughout 220 countries since 1840, Dun & Bradstreet is an international company active in opportunity and risk manage-ment fields. As the result of such effective instrument granted only to a small number of Turkish companies which is originally used to measure the corporate risks throughout the world, the obtained credibility degree reveals concretely the financial credibility of our company in its sector. Besides, A2 credit rating certifies our corporate credibility in our international trade relations, investor relations as well as financial sustainability in the eyes of credit institutions and banks. As Transorient, we are proud to show our dedication to transpar-ency and brand trust rooted over 50 years!

New Melbourne precinct building, at New Quay Dock-lands required the assistance of the ICE Project team lead by Karen and Emily to ensure the project continued on sched-ule .

Manufacturing delays resulted in an integral part of a second floor fascia which was originally planned for ocean freight, to be moved via airfreight to Melbourne. The item was held at ICE’s warehouse pending the green light from the building project manager; once the confirmation was received the delivery was effected during off peak time allowing the crane to lift it into position.

Joint efforts between ADP ( Shanghai Asian Development comp.) and VCK Logistics made it happen that the first shipment ( out of 5 ) of a OSB plant was being transported from Shanghai via St Petersburg to Tchaikovsky in Rus-sia. Tchaikovsky is 2800 km away from St Petersburg and is on the west side of the Oeral mountains. The complicating factor was de size of the cargo, being, long,

over wide, overweight and overweight and the transport within Russia. The shipment of 30 containers was arranged on time and delivered as per planning, during our FFSI sales meeting in Bang-kok supervised by representatives from ADP and VCK Logistics in Russia.

In Tchaikovsky was no hotel available so we had to stay at a Rus-sian sport institute, build to train the Russian winter atletes for the Olympic games in 2014 in Solchy. In this modern trainings facility with ski jumping facilities we found a warm welcome to stay. In meantime the 2nd and 3rd part of the plant are on their way as well.

VCK LOGISTICS GOES GREEN

On behalf of one of their clients VCK delivered in September 2012 a green energy solar module facility in Jocksdorf, Ger-many. In 12 days in total 384 trailers were loaded at our facility in Rotterdam and delivered at side in Jocksdorf. These trailers

contained 9984 pallets with 249600 solar panels. The whole project was very time sensitive as at destination, cranes, crew and press was available to install all panels. VCK Logistics was able to manage in time, which resulted in an extra order from consignee for our client of 40 more trailers to be de-livered the week thereafter.
