Dear Church Family, I’m not a big Bob Dylan fan but in 1964 he wrote a song entitled,

“Times They Are A-Changin.” We are experiencing many changes. As I write this, one of the biggest changes that is occurring is that our country is preparing for a change in administration. By the time you read this we will have a new president and several new elected senators and representatives. In the months and years to come we are sure to experience changes that will effect our daily lives. You’ve heard it said that change is the only constant. This is true for everything except God. The Bible says in Psalm 102:25-27,

Of old you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you endure; they will all wear out like a garment. You change them like raiment, and they pass away; but you are the same, and your years have no end.

The fact that God doesn’t change should give us great comfort. It gives us great comfort because if God doesn’t change then his Word doesn’t change. This means that his Word is true and will always be true. Isaiah 40:8 says,

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.

I want to encourage you to attach your life to that which does not change. Enjoy the grass and the flowers but don’t attach your life to them because they will be here today and gone tomorrow. Enjoy the grass and the flowers, seek to bring about positive change, but build your life on the rock of the unchangeable God. The times they are a-changin but let us place our trust is Jesus who is the same yesterday, today, and forever! In Christ,

Pastor Ron Jones

The Importance of Worship

Where can we go for a choice to find true joy and peace for our lives? Worship is the answer most often overlooked by people today. Worship provides release from anxiety, fear, stress, loneliness and other

discouragements of life. Whether you come in person or online, there is joy and thankfulness for God's goodness in our lives. As we sing, pray, and hear scripture explained and proclaimed, we experience a time of refreshing and energy for every aspect of our lives.

When singing songs like, "There Is None Like You" or "It Is Well With My Soul" we are reminded of the blessings from God each and every day. Then as we leave corporate worship with others, we must continue to take these spiritual songs as our reminder that "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and when we have trials and temptations, He is there to be our hope and solid rock on which we can stand.

Each day we must surrender our hearts and minds to God's tools (spiritual songs and scriptures) that keep us in worship of Him who made us and loves us. Romans 12: 2 gives us the answer and strength to do just that! ("Be transformed by the renewing of your mind...)What songs and scriptures come to your mind as your day unfolds? Thanking God for his blessings is a good place to start so you can sing/say; "Thank You Lord, for saving my soul, Thank you Lord, for making me whole!"

This past month we have been reading through Proverbs. I want to encourage you to read scripture daily. That way you can come to realize and know how Proverb 23:7 provides instruction on how to worship continually. "As a person thinketh in their heart, so they are!" That's correct, thinking is doing!

As we begin this new month when our hearts are directed by the thoughts of Valentine's and human love for each other, let's read Psalm 150 daily. This psalm encourages us to "Praise the Lord" for all his greatness and goodness. Let verse 6 become our goal and beginning of every day, "Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord! Worship comes from a loving and grateful heart! Let’s love God because he loves us even more! Floyd Montgomery Director of Music Ministry

I have two giving challenges for you. One is a monthly challenge and the second is a challenge for the year. The monthly giving challenge for February is to donate canned food items or nonperishable food items for our Little Free Pantry. The pantry is consistently visited by people who need food. This is a great way to give and serve our community! The giving challenge for the year is to increase your financial giving to the mission of our church. The amount that you give is between you and the Lord. But we know that God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7). The more we understand the generosity of God toward us in Christ the more generous we become as well. We want this year to be a year of growth and one of the ways we grow is by giving. I want to challenge you to join me and let's increase our giving for 2021. Soon you will receive a giving statement that will show you what you gave in 2020. Prayerfully consider what your giving goal will be for this year!

GIVING CHALLENGE

During the month of February, I want to challenge you to read the Gospel of Matthew. There are 28 days in February and there are 28 chapters in Matthew. Join me in

reading one chapter per day as we seek to grow in our relationship with God!

BIBLE READING CHALLENGE

OUTREACH CHALLENGE

Let’s seek to use Social Media to reach people for Jesus! One way you can do this is by sharing our church’s posts and videos on your personal accounts. We regularly post on Instagram and Facebook. Let’s use Social Media to

extend the gospel’s reach in our city!

Message from Financial Management

The year 2020 was a challenging year. The COVID Pandemic affected everyone whether through personal illness, stress, financial hardship, or the impact of these burdens upon family members and friends.

The Financial Management Board appreciates the financial support that The Hill Baptist Church received last year. It is praiseworthy that donations to the General Fund ($239,120.32) exceeded our General Fund budget expenditures ($229,740.14). Thank you for your generosity and prayers.

The FMB presented a motion at the church conference on November 11, 2019, to establish a provisional General Fund budget for 2021 of $251,656. The motion was approved. Budget update from the January 2021 conference will be included in next month’s Beacon.

Contribution statements for 2020 will be mailed in January. If you find a variance between your records and the statement, please contact Jocelyn Owens by calling the church office at 706-736-8446 or by sending an email to [email protected]. You must have your contribution statement from the church for your records before filing a federal income tax return that itemizes deductions and includes your church contributions.

Did you know that you can monitor your giving record throughout the year if you have an account in Realm®, our church’s online software? If you have not yet created a Realm® account, you will be receiving another email inviting you to create one. If your email address has not been provided to the church office, please send a request by email to the church office.
