Well,usBATOCmembersreallyknowhowtocookandparty.26clubmembersweretreatedtoanoutstandingeveningoffunandfantasticeating.WestartedtheeveningatGreggandLawrence’sbeautifulhome,forFrescoMargarita’sandhorsd’oeuvres.Theviewfromtheirdeckisspectacular,andsuchalovelysetting.Next,wetraveledtoEdandDonnaBenson’shomeforyetanotheroutstandingfeast.Edfixedusascrumptiousmeatloafwithmushroomgravy,mashedpotatoes,andasparagus.NextweheadedtoLisaandEran’shomeforatreasureofdelightfuldesserts.Theeveningwassofun,noonewantedittoend.Thankssomuchtoourhosts–youreallyoutdidyourselves.

ItwasanothergreatoutinginDanvilleonAugust19,forthenewlyrevisedHotSummerSundaysinDanvilleCarShow.OurownMariaandJimGuthrietookhometheTownChoiceAwardfortheirbeautiful1957BlueThunderbird.TheThunderbirdswerefrontandcenter,thankstoeventcoordinator,DavidMiller.Agreattimewashadbyallwhoattended.

“WHICHWAYDIDHEGO,WHICHWAYDIDHEGO”IncrediblywisewordsfromthedaysofgreatcartoonsandveryappropriatefortheBATOCoftoday.September&Octoberhasourmembersspreadoutalloverthecountry–fromAmarillo,Tx.androute66toMurphy's,Ca.,IronstoneandBirdsontheWharf.ArecordmonthforBATOC.Onthistopic,wehadagreatRoute66meetingthispastweekendtoplanandorganizethe“mechanical”partsofthetrip….literally.WeplannedandorganizedanewBATOCpartsandrepairboxfortheclubthatwillsupportBATOC“trekkers”aswejourneyacrossthecountryside.SomeofyoumaynotknowthatBATOChasalwaysmaintainedacompletesparepartskitthatiscarriedoneveryoutingandisalwaysavailabletoanymemberinanemergency–evenifnotonatrip.Ifyouarestuckonaweekendandcan’tgetaparttomakeyourbabyrun,youcanalwayscallDaveandseeifthekithaswhatyouneed.Thenjustreplaceitwhenyoucan.You’dbesurprisedatwhatourvariousmembershaveonhandtohelpyouout.Wecouldprobablybuildawholecarifwewantedto.So….here’stoourRoute66trekkersforasafe,exciting,funandmemorabletrip.Thiswillbehistoric.AndbesuretofollowourgroupviatheBATOCRoute66blogthatwewillhaveon-line.Staytunedforthedetailsandaccesstheblogdirectlyfromthewebsite,BATOC.ORG.Pictures,storiesandembarrassingmomentsfromRoute66.FortherestofuswhoareNOTdoingRoute66,thereisIronstoneandBirdsontheWharf.Sept.21&22andSept.28&29respectively.Idon’tneedtosaymuchabouteitheroftheseeventsexcepttoencourageyoutoattend.Evenifyouarenotparticipatingineithershow,pleasejoininforfabulousdaysandfabulousshows.TakeadaytripandenjoytheabsolutebesttimeofyearinNorthernCalifornia.Onaseriousnote,ifyouare,infact,participatinginBirdsontheWharfyouarestronglyencouraged(almostrequired)tobringaraffleprizetodonatetothecauseandtheMontereyclub.Thiscanbevirtuallyanything–fromasparepartthatyouhaveinyourgarage,toagiftbasketofanykind–wine,cheese,carorientedstuff,a“regifted”toiletpaperholder,etc,etc,etc.Wrapitup,makeitfunandbringitalong.Montereywillappreciateit.Andfinally,joinusnextSaturdayforourregularmeetingattheButtercupGrillandour“SendOff”partyforourtrekkers.WewillalsohearareportfromthenationalconventionandfinalizeplansforIronstoneandBirdsontheWharf.Thiswillbeagreatmonth.Seeyouallsoon.HappyT-BirdingDave

MeetingMinutesAugust11,201833AttendeesNewMembersandPotentialNewMemberswereintroducedandwelcomed.JeffMcIntyre,newmember,finallyboughtaWhite1957Thunderbird,afterseeingitinAmericanGraffiti,andknowinghewantedtoownonesomeday.Thecarwaspurchasedonlineandisstillbackeast.SherriHapier,potentialnewmember,metRonJacobsinaparkinglotwhiletheywerebothdrivingtheirRetroBirds.SherrimovedtothebayareafromtheMidwest30yearsago.Sheisanartist.Sheownsa2005silverRetroBird.SherrisuggestedjoiningtheThunderbirdonlineforumsasagreatlearningexperience.MarioandSheriCorreawereattendingtheirfirstmeeting,afterjoiningtheclub8monthsago.Mariohasa55GreenThunderbird.Daverecentlywasaskedtoappraise(asidebusinessofhis)severalThunderbirdsfromthe60’s.Theyhadbeensittingformanyyears,andappearedinroughshape.But,ifanyoneisinterested,contactDave.Therewereotheroldcarsthereaswell.CathyHagerinformedusthatherdad,FredLathrop,alongtimeclubmember,hadpassedaway.Cathyisacurrentmemberoftheclub.Ourcondolencesgoouttothefamily.BigthankyoutoNickandJudyVerhoekfororganizingtheCoppolawinerytour.Itwasabeautifulplaceandaveryfunevent.EdBensonmentionedthatthereisawebsitewhereyoucanfindhardtofindcollectorcarparts.Thewebsiteismatchclassicparts.com,ifyouareinterested.TheCTCIconventionwillbenextweek.TheLloydsandGilBaumgartneraretheonlyonesgoingfromourclub.WewillhearallaboutitfromtheLloyds.UpcomingEventsAug18–ProgressiveDinner–theeventstartsatGregCanella’sat5pm,followedbydinnerattheBenson’sat6pmanddessertattheNadler’sat8pm.Theyalllivewithin2milesofeachother,soitwillbeveryconvenient.Aug19–HotDanvilleSundaysCarShow–arriveattheDiabloRdshoppingcenterby8am.Carswilldrivetotheshowat8:15sharp.Costis$25percar.

Sept22–IronstoneConcoursd’Elegance–SomepeoplewilldriveuponFriday.Ifso,meetattheBlackBearDinerinTracyatGrantLineRoadat10amonSept21.Wewillcaravanfromthere.Onceupthere,wewillmeetforcocktails,breakfast,dinner,etc.TheMathieson’sgraciouslyhostabarbecuedinneraftertheshowonthe22nd.RogerCanfieldisinchargeofthisevent.Sept29–BirdsontheWharf–Soundslikeeveryoneisdrivingontheirown.TheSantaCruzclubhasaskedforassistanceonthedayoftheevent,aswellasraffleprizes.Theclubwouldliketodonatearaffleprizeandsomemoneytohelpoutwiththeevent.ThosegoingonRoute66willprobablynothavetheirThunderbirdsavailable,astheywillbeshippingtoTexasduringthatperiod.Oct5-17–Route66Trip–ArrangementsaremadewithMecumTransportCompanytoShip6ThunderbirdstoAmarilloTexas.Thecostis$1500percar.Thecarshavebeeninsuredfor$50,000each.Twocarswillbedrivingbothgoingandcoming,CanfieldsandBooths,andwewillmeetupinSantaFe.TherewillbeagroupmeetingattheRiley’s,togooverfinaldetailsandwhatsparepartsneedtobecarried,onSundayAug26from12pm–3pm.Carissuescanbediscussedandworkedonatthistime.Lunchwillbeserved.BecausemanyoftheofficersaregoingontheRoute66Trip,theOctober13monthlymeetingiscancelled.PeteLefevre,ourtechexpert,mentionedtobecarefulbuyingwhiteboxparts.HerecommendsthatyougothroughareputablepartshousesuchasSummit,JegsorNapa,ratherthanbuyingsomeunknownbrand.LisaBrill-Nadlerannouncedifyouneedaclubjackettocontacther.Youcannotpurchasethepersonalizedjacketonline.TherewasalengthydiscussionaboutthehorrorofgoingtoaDMVofficethesedays,especiallyinlightofthenewrequiredIDcards.Goodluckeveryone.
