President’s Message Gary Tucker

It's here! The time of year we all have been waiting for! By the time you read this the winter doldrums are behind us and we are full throttle on the way to spring! Events within the club are a plenty, as are events within National. Meaning, your reading this in the

Shoreline and somewhere in your home or office you should have a copy of " Panorama" , the official publication of the Porsche Club Of America. The reason I bring Panorama to your attention is this; for those of you that attend National events (and I know there are quite a few of you out there), please share! Meaning, take 15 minutes while your having morning coffee or an evening libation and write up a quick story about it! This will do THREE things; it will bring good attention to others on what the club offers on the National level, and it's a great contribution to the Shoreline! And it also can direct YOUR CLUB on future events! This is much needed, the articles for the Shoreline and some fresh ideas on how to execute on events that are successful elsewhere within our Porsche family! We have asked for small contributions from our members in the past, and some of you have delivered in the past and this season, let it be the season we hear more from you, the members of not only the Jersey Shore PCA, but the PCA of America! Thank You in advance and happy and great driving and "in season" adventures!

With my WARM regards, Gary Tucker

The Shoreline | March—April 2018 |

My name is Carole Gennusa and I am the Finance

Manager at Porsche Monmouth here in Eatontown

and soon to be back in West Long Branch! Although

newer to the car industry, I’m not new to sales, cars

or racing. Growing up my Father brought us to race

tracks on Friday nights being that he built Profes-

sional Race Engines early on in his life. Imagine that

one of my aspirations was to be a race car driver

enough that my brother nick-named me “Carole Ca-

maro” which still holds true being that I was taught

to drive a stick shift when I was 14 years old in a re-

ally cool ’69 Camaro.. Years later my husband and I

are then blessed with four children, one being a son named Nicholas. “Nick” is now an aspiring

22 year old top Professional ATV Motocross Racer currently ranked 4th in points in the USA

and runs his own Professional GennUSA Racing Team blessed with “USA” in his last name.

With all of the hats I wear, one of them is handling the acquisitions of sponsors, old and new,

so I guess I’m meant to stay in sales. Check out @gennusa15 on Instagram and Nick Gennusa

#15 Pro ATV Motocross Racer on Facebook ! !

So after 20+ years in Real Estate, construction and development I needed to get on a new

track in my life and what can possibly be better than working for Mr. Roger Penske himself?

Absolutely nothing! Shifting into 5th gear, my primary goal in selling the aftermarket products

is to maintain the beauty and integrity of your new or pre owned PORSCHE. I can assist with

warranties on your vehicles not covered under the PORSCHE certified program and paint pro-

tection from Ibex paint sealant to clear film applications and dent and ding protection . I

strongly emphasize the need for Tire & Wheel Protection. On a very serious note, the number

one thing we all wrestle with today is” Distracted Driving” from our oxygen tanks called cell

phones. It used to be just the teenagers doing this, but now it’s everyone whether they are tex-

ting or reading it, checking out their emails, Facebook or Instagram instead of just driving. At

the end of the day we are all human, however if someone is headed right toward you doing the

unnecessary, you’re going to choose that pot hole over any head on collision. That is why we

have the protection in place. We all want to think we are great drivers and “never hit pot

holes”, but it’s not you-it’s our roads and the other drivers. Talk to me, I survived a serious

crash from a texting driver that rear ended me. I believe strongly that I survived my crash so I

can teach others how serious this really is to all of us. Hope to see you soon!

P.S. I’m still considering being a race car driver but only if Roger trains me himself…Move

over Austin Dillon.

Members Spotlight - Ed & Yvonne Malcolm By: Mike Bavaro

Over the past three plus years the member spotlight has focused on JSR members who own, show, collect and race Porsches. I have enjoyed speaking with each and everyone and getting to know all of them just a bit better. I refer to members as “car people “ or “racers” or “bikers” This issues choice has all of that and more, throw in “race boats” and “sniffer”. Ed Malcolm and his wife of 40 + years, Yvonne, have a story that could fill a few pages, but, here is the “short “ version. Ed and Yvonne are retired from their career jobs at IFF. Many local Jersey Shore folks remember the International Flavors and Fragrances in Hazlet, just along route 36. My wife Margaret spent many a day there working as a “sniffer”, she got paid to test the final product and evaluate perfumes for their marketing department. But, Ed’s job was a “super sniffer” as they had him testing all of the base ingredients for consistency, that way the final product was the same, some job huh? A sniffer. Ed’s first car was a 1950 Ford Coupe followed by a ‘53 Studebaker Commander, a ’57 Olds Super 88, ’60 Pontiac Bonneville then a 1963 Ford Galaxy 500 with a 406/405HP four speed (one just sold at Barrett/Jackson for almost $200K) then a 65 T-Bird. Finally, a sports car, a 1967 Corvette which he wrecked and replaced it with a second Vette.

Around about 1973 IFF sent Ed to Europe for a 5 year stint in Holland. His daily driver was a Mercedes Benz 450 SL. Now he was into that “euro car” mode, so he went overboard with a 1976 Alpha Romeo Spider. I really mean over-board as in underwater, those Alphas all leaked when it rained. The replacement was a 1978 Alpha Romeo GTV, nice choice Ed! But where does the Porsche story start? Apparently not until the boat phase was over, or almost over. Ed and Yvonne

bought a Jersey Speed skiff, these are flat bottom speed machines, two people sit in the back and hang on! They also went on to own a 1978 20 foot Cigarette that was good for 65 mph! Early 90’s dealt a bit of a blow to the Malcolm’s when Ed was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Today’s prospects and cures for this disease are much better, but back then it was a life changing mental challenge. One they faced and dealt with successfully. Ed had a catharsis while on the table, no he didn’t die and come back, no, he didn’t “go to the light” nor did he see himself from above lying on the table, instead he decided, “life’s too short!”, if I make it through this, it’s time for a Porsche. He purchased a brand new 1995 911 Carrera, black metallic that he still drives today. This is the car most club members know the Malcolm’s for, after all it has garnered 9 first place Concours wins and a hand full of runner up awards. Don’t even think this is a garage queen, no way! With 84,000 miles on the clock Ed and Yvonne have traveled the USA in their Porsche 911. This is what Porsches were made for: to drive them, to clean them and to love them. Thanks Ed and Yvonne, it’s a pleasure to know you both.

Tech Night at Porsche Monmouth

Thursday February 22nd was the date for Tech Night at Porsche Monmouth. The evening started with an update on the new building and its design from Gary Tucker. The building is truly state of the art and is expected to be finished in July. Gary turned the presentation over to Rachel Nissim and she gave an update on the entire car line up. There are a number of variants for all models. What was impressive are the 0-60 times for as SUV and sedan hybrid models that were below3 seconds! If you drive a 911 watch out who you try to beat away from the light. After this presentation we went back to the service area for food and drink provided by Mainstreet Kitchen in Manasquan. As always, the food was excellent. Then Gary shared a surprise as they unveiled the newest Panamera, the Sport Turismo! This was brought in for this night and on borrow from one of their Penske sister stores, as this model is not out yet on the East Coast, what a treat! It is a well done design and will find buyers! If over-seas, it would be referred to as a “shooting brake”, not a wagon! After this we were able to look at newly arrived Boxster and Cayman GTS models, they have a definite don’t mess with me look to them. Since the Cayman was on the lift we got a peak underside and as it was apart for display purposes for the evening, very trick! All in all a great night and it was good to see old friends and meet some new ones as well!

Daytona 24 Hours & New Members Event By Bill Casey

Saturday January 27th was a bright sunny day with no snow in the forecast which was great! We had a bunch of new members who were attending their first event, all I talked with found that they felt welcome and planned to attend more events. Can’t wait to see them at more events! I went outside to make a phone call and it was great to see there were as many Porsches as there were pickup trucks in the parking lot. One of the new members had a nice red 968 that was his baby. It always nice to strike up conver-sations with people about their cars, and get the stories on they came to own them. As always the food at Woody's was great, and the people are always great when we go there! If you missed this year, plan on next year as this now seems to be an annual event and a great way to relax on a cold winter Saturday!!!

U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY 10996

The Club is planning a day trip to visit this historic institution situated alongside the scenic Hudson River in Orange County, New York. Hope you can join the caravan for an early spring drive to tour the facility and

lunch afterwards with other fellow club members.

The newly opened Visitors Center which provides an insight into cadet life, will serve as the starting point for the days activities while at West Point. Access to the academy grounds are via guided tours departing from the Visitors Center and can be booked in advance. The one hour and fifteen minute tour will provide greater insight as to the role the academy and its graduates have played in our nations history. After the tour we’ll meet up for a late lunch at the Thayer Hotel which opened in 1926 and has hosted numerous presidents and

dignitaries.

Screamin’ Hill Brewery & Happy Apple Inn

March 10, 2018

Screamin’ Hill Brewery 83 Emleys Hill Road

Cream Ridge, NJ 08514

Come join us on March 10th--not quite Spring, but close enough!

We'll meet at Screamin' Hill Brewery at 83 Emleys Hill Road in Cream Ridge, New Jersey (http://screaminhill.com). It's a brewery that harkens back to a time in America when life was simple and farmers brewed with what was at hand from the year's harvest. Screamin' Hill combines their love of beer with farming--producing ales using their own farm-grown

ingredients whenever possible.

Join us at 3:00 to taste some delicious ales and get a short tour of the brewery.

At 4:30-5:00 we'll make the quick ride to The Happy Apple Inn for dinner (http://happyappleinn.com). Built in the 1800's as a stagecoach stop for travelers, the Happy Apple continues the tradition of great food in a nostalgic atmos-

phere.

Please RSVP to Dawn Schneider at [email protected] ASAP as space is limited at the brewery.
