At the helm, is veteran director Colleen Bowen, who, along with her talented cast of pirates, have been hard at work bringing this spectacular show to life. Surrounding herself with a top notch cast and crew, Colleen is sure to make this a show to remember. With costumers, Daina Toevs & Sheryl Sutherland in charge, you know something special will materialize. Our prop masters, Barb Visser & Jill Sheets, have been busy begging, borrowing and stealing (as all good pirates do) all the loot needed for this show. Behind the musical talents of our cast are Marilyn Everhart and Sherry Krebs. Jason Rolfs, as the assistant director, has been learning a great deal and getting plenty of abdominal work in from all that laughing he does every night, while producer, Michelle Littler, is busy making sure all is well. With over 100 characters being portrayed by 12 actors, we have been very busy. The versatile cast includes: Andrea Colyar, Skylar Cuthill, Julie Anne Davis, Levi Murphy, Matthew Pippin, Jason Rolfs, Zach Savage, Jacob Scott, Dylan Spradlin, Emma Standerford, Sean Ward, & Mark Wavra. This show is funny, imaginative and most of all magical. Filled with pirates searching for treasure, wisdom bestowing mermaids, and of course, the boys that won’t grow up. Peter and the Starcatcher will be a favorite for the whole family. Performance dates are October 6 th -8 th , 13 th -15 th and the 20 th -22 nd at 7:30 PM. There are two matinee performances at 2 PM on the 16 th and 23 rd . November 7 – 8 at 7PM @ Riverside Playhouse John Mausser is at it again! He is no stranger to the MTW stage. He has directed, acted, designed, serves on the board, and is our stagecraft chairperson. After directing the sold-out, smash hit, Boeing Boeing last winter, he is returning to the director’s chair with yet another big comedy, the Neil Simon hit, Rumors. Rumors will be presented January 2017.

Neil Simon is a master at comedy, and this farce is no exception…“At a large, tastefully appointed Sneden's Landing townhouse, the Deputy Mayor of New York has just shot himself. Though only a flesh wound, four couples are about to experience a severe attack of Farce. Gathering for their tenth wedding anniversary, the host lies bleeding in the other room and his wife is nowhere in sight. His lawyer, Ken and wife Chris must get "the story" straight before the other guests arrive. As the confusions and mis-communications mount, the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity.” (Samuel French)

“I think this play is hilariously funny and that is what attracted me to it; its unit set is also well suited to the Riverside Playhouse,” says Mausser. “I am looking for actors with excellent comic timing and the ability to work well with the rest of the ensemble.” The show features roles for 5-6 men, and 4-5 women, who will play four couples and two police officers. Several of the roles could be played by either a man or a woman.

Auditions will be Monday, November 7 and Tuesday, November 8 at Riverside Playhouse. Auditioners are expected to attend both audition days. Please arrive on Monday, at 6:30PM, to complete paperwork with auditions beginning at 7PM. Auditions will continue Tuesday at 7:00PM sharp. ~Brady Dundas

DAINA TOEVS

You might say that Daina Toevs’ entry into central Washington community theatre was kismet.

She had played the Baker’s Wife in Spokane Civic Theater’s production of Into the Woods a few years before her family’s move to Wenatchee in 1996. Kelly and Paul Atwood were also in that production. When she and her family made the move to Wenatchee, she called the Atwoods and jumped, with both feet, into Music Theatre of Wenatchee, joining the cast of Most Happy Fella, and the Board, that year.

Daina has shared her talents, creativity, and passion for theatre as a performer, director, costumer, and a MTW board member since joining our theatre family. At the same time, she and her husband, Ken, raised two children, and owned a farm and White Trail Produce in Quincy. Earlier this year, she announced that after serving eight terms on the Board, she was ready for a break.

We asked Daina for her advice for new Board members. Her answer focused on MTW’s 56-year legacy: “Look to the future with new ideas, but don't forget to learn from the past. The history of why we do things is important. That can get lost when new members come on and don't have access to the history in decision making. Ask lots of questions.”

Don’t think you won’t be seeing Toevs around the Riverside Playhouse. She’s currently costuming our Fall production of Peter and the Starcatcher

Daina – Thank you for your service! ~Christy Shearer

VOLUNTEERS:

Without an army of volunteers, our little theater would not be able to keep it’s doors open. From our board members, to our directors, actors, technicians, and everyone else between, it truly takes hours and hours and countless volunteers to keep us up and running. And we are always looking for volunteers with skills of every kind. Are you gifted with technology? Or maybe construction and design is your strength? Or maybe you love fashion and costuming? No matter what your skills we would love to have you join our theater family. We are always looking for volunteers. If you are interested, email us at [email protected] . ~Brady Dundas

@ RIVERSIDE PLAYHOUSE:

Whoever said everything gets better with age didn’t operate a community theater! Unfortunately, paint fades, light bulbs go out, toilets backup, and old equipment constantly needs replacing. But luckily for us, with a long list of smash hit shows this past season, and through the patronage of our faithful membership, we have been able to make some major upgrades at the Riverside Playhouse, with hopefully more soon to follow.

First, we were able to purchase new LED lights that have replaced many we have that no longer function. The lights will be put to quick use in our next production of Peter and the Starcatcher. And to run those new lights, we have finally been able to purchase a new light board. Our previous board was extremely outdated, and had become obsolete, so we are thrilled to be able to be running a new up to date board.

Thank you for supporting MTW and for making these upgrades possible through your yearly membership and through supporting our productions. ~Brady Dundas

Love is in the air in this riotous comic twist on an old horror classic when “Frank-on-steen”, the grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein inherits the family estate in Transylvania, he can no longer deny his legacy, He builds a Monster. However, in so doing, he falls in love, and the Monster, who naturally escapes, also falls in love, and well…hilarity abounds!

Young Frankenstein, is based on the book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan with music and lyrics by Mel Brooks. As such, it is a monster musical comedy with such memorable tunes as “The Transylvania Mania” and “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” while providing the perfect opportunity for a cast to showcase an array of talents.

Director Cynthia Brown will be looking to fill the major roles with six males, a large, tap-dancing Monster to a “well-intentioned village idiot” to mention just a couple, while among the females she will be looking for a yodeling Inga, a fiancé and a stern housekeeper. Add to this an ensemble of ten-twenty actors to fill “featured roles, lots of juicy lines and singing including a barbershop quartet”, and a list of mad-cap supporting roles and the fun is non-stop!

Mark your calendars for auditions, Jan. 3-5, 2017 at the PAC, time to be announced at a later date. We look forward to seeing you in 2017! Let’s continue the tradition of delivering another crowd-pleasing Apple Blossom Musical!
