Purchasing Watertown Bucks has always been a fantastic gift idea -- and this holiday season it could become even more rewarding!

The Watertown Area Chamber is encouraging everyone to “Love Your Community This Holiday Season” by shopping local. Watertown Bucks can be purchased at The Chamber office, located at 1 East Kemp, in denominations from $5 through $50. They may then be redeemed at all Watertown Chamber Member businesses in the area.

The economic impact will continue well into 2017 as your Watertown Bucks are reinvested in businesses throughout the community. But just in case you need even more incentive, everyone who purchases Watertown Bucks from December 1 through December 31, 2016 will have the chance to win an additional $500, $250 or $100 in the Chamber’s Watertown Bucks drawing.

We’re extremely excited to offer this “Love Your Community” promotion on December 1, as our Chamber members are ready to serve you.

Speaking of our members, we can’t help but brag a little bit about those who invested time recently in our “Improve Your Customer Service For the Holidays” sessions. These fortunate folks had a hands-on training with international speaker, trainer and author David K. Aaker, IOM. Kudos to the businesses that saw the value in sending their employees for this important refresher. David travels around the United States and beyond sharing his stories on the impact of offering stellar customer service.

Thanks to everyone who joined us on Tuesday, December 6, as David Owen, President of the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce & Industry presented a Pre-Legislative Preview here in Watertown.

We also appreciate everyone who gathered at Lake Area Technical Institute on Friday, December 9, to hear Gov. Dennis Daugaard's 2017 SD Budget address. This stop on the Governor’s Budget Tour was our opportunity to hear first-hand what is being planned for our state in the coming year.

As we approach the New Year, we wish you prosperity, success and friendship in 2017. If there’s any way we can be helpful, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

'Improve Your

Customer Service'

David K. Aaker, IOM, international speaker and

author, presented “Improve Your Customer Service For the

Holidays” on November 28 in Watertown.

“We’re all multi-tasking and busy, but we need to bring kindness back,” said Aaker.

“Serving others is a privilege, not an obligation.” Aaker has been a published author in two books. "Success Simplified," a new anthology for 24 nationally selected speakers and "50 Unforgettable Speakers," both published by Insight Publishing. With more than 20 years in Chamber of Commerce management, he sees each day as a new opportunity to apply his principles of customer service.

“I believe we have all become a bit numb about how we treat each other,” said Aaker. “In business, life or on vacation we all want to be treated with respect and sincerity.”

Through hands-on activities and personal stories of customer service (good and bad), Aaker encouraged the participants in each class “make a difference” whenever they have an opportunity. While most people seem happy to complain about receiving poor service, few will take the extra steps to pass along praise.

“As a business, you need to remember that nobody wants your business more than your competition,” he said. “Never give the customer what they expect – give them more.”

Monday’s training sessions included participants from area restaurants, retail businesses, banking and industry as well as business consultants. Aaker’s South Dakota tour also included stops in Brookings and Huron.

Aaker’s presentation concluded with his “10 Golden Nuggets of Successful Customer Service." Read more at www.davidkaaker.com.
