TCBA THE TRAVELING CLASSIC BOWLING ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA The Visionary Bowling Products/TCBA National Playoff Tournament was held May 18-20 at City View Lanes in Ft. Worth TX. The women’s title was claimed by the Dallas team On The border. The road to victory by On the Border began with a close win. A big win in game two put the gears in motion for a possible title and win- ning game three had them on a 3 and 0 start. Game four was not one that would keep the streak alive, but it was only a two pin loss. Things didn’t get any better with a loss in game five. The team had a huge rally in the sixth game, winning by 125 pins. By game seven things were well in hand, winning by over 200 pins. The position round was no different, On the Border was on the money taking the final match. The team posted a 6 and 2 record for Sunday’s finals. The Men’s title was won by Rowlett Bowl-A-Rama from the North East Texas dis- trict. Rowlett’s road to the title also started with a victory, a 20 pin one. In the sec- ond game things got a bit more exciting, with a 1270 scratch game in which bowlers Jonathan Harris rolled a 299 and Mark Blasius tossed a perfect 300. That high didn’t last long, as game three handed them their first loss. They bounced back in game four with their third win in four games. A seven pin loss in game five made things interesting again. Game six had them on the winning track again, only to be set back again by loosing game seven. The final match was for all the marbles, and Rowlett Bowl A Rama managed to win by 138 pins sealing the deal for the title. Keith Savoie

TCBA President

Welcome back to a new season of TCBA.

We will be emailing the issues of the

newsletter to the secretaries as well as

posting it on our web site this year.

Emailing the issues went well last year.

Send your email address to the TCBA

and we will add you to our news letter

mailer. Printing and mailing cost have

soared, and email is becoming the meth-

od of choice. The year book will also be

on our web site as it has been for the last

two years.

The Delegates meeting on Friday

morning was held at the host hotel,

the Fort Worth South Hotel . Betty

Shields said an opening prayer, as

has been customary in our Delegates

meeting. The meeting started with

the dispensing of the reading of the

minutes from the previous meeting.

AMF Garland in Garland Texas was

announced as the host center for the

2014 All Star / National Playoff

Tournament on June 12-15, 2014.

The national award winners were

announced. As was customary at

our national delegates meeting a Vi-

sionary ball was given to a secretary

for patches returned. Was the recip-

ient of the ball. The delegates voted

on By-Law changes and additions.

By-Law Article XI had the addition

of Rule 12 to have a common start

and ending rule for both men and

women. RULE 12. All region sched-

ules must begin no sooner than the

first (1st) weekend of September

and no later than the second (2nd

)

weekend of September. The sched-

ule must be completed no later

than the first (1st) weekend of May.

Additionally the Regional Wildcard

Tournament must be held no later

than two (2) weeks after comple-

tion of regular league play. (A

waiver to this rule may be granted

by the President of TCBA with ap-

proval of the Executive Board.) There were several housekeeping

changes in the By-Laws due to the

changes in the starting date and

tournament dates. Another house-

keeping rule in the Women’s rule

was initiated. The vote to allow

patches to be embroidered last year

was intended for both men and

women, but was only changed in the

Men’s rules. The General meeting

was adjourned. The men continued

with their separate meeting to vote

on their proposed rule changes. The

delegates passed the change pro-

posed for Rule 1 District Setup &

Bowling Schedule rule 3 A single

district will be comprised of no less

than four (4) teams and no more

than eleven (11) teams. A district

cannot become a region until twelve

(12) teams have joined the league.

Two (2) or more single districts of six

(6) teams, for a minimum of twelve

(12) teams may merge to form a re-

gion and thus bowl a joint schedule.

A region shall be formed when two

(2) or more single districts elect the

same person to serve as secretary.

Under no circumstances shall a bye

be used to complete a single district

at the beginning of the season. This

change was monumental in keeping

the regions alive when hard times

have hit the bowling industry.

Hopefully we will get back the

teams we have lost in previous years.

We have made some bold moves to help

keep bowling in the TCBA alive. Moving

the All Star tournament to the same week-

end of the National Playoffs is one major

change. The All Star tournament is our

only avenue to recognize individual bowlers

in the TCBA. Past year’s attendance has

been low. Most bowlers related the cost of

travel versus payout was the main reason

for not bowling in the All Star tournament.

As the All Star tournament has a prize fund

that is entry driven, increasing the prize

fund was not possible. Our thoughts and

comments from bowlers was that they

would probably bowl the All Star if it was

at the same time as the Nationals. Another

move was to hold the National Playoffs in

June. TCBA has always been a family ori-

ented organization. Tournaments in Octo-

ber and May made it difficult to have the

family travel with the bowlers. By moving

the tournament to June gives us the oppor-

tunity to make the tournament a family

vacation. In order to make these moves we

enacted a rule that was voted on by the

delegates several years ago. Regional Wild-

card tournaments will take place this year.

Teams that achieve 72 1/2 wins qualify for

the wildcard tournament as before. The

difference is that they bowl at their region.

Every region will have at least one team

representing them from the wildcard tour-

nament. In years past, the wildcard tourna-

ment being held at the National site al-

lowed a 1 in 10 ratio to advance to the

Qualifying tournament. Last year we ad-

vanced 9 men’s teams and 4 women’s teams

from the Wildcard tournament. With the

regional wildcard tournament, a minimum

of 11 men’s teams and 9 women’s teams

will bowl in the Qualifying tournament.

Regions with more teams qualifying for

the regional wildcard tournament will

have more teams entering the National

tournament. The ratio for men’s wildcard

teams will be 1 in 5 and the women will be

1 in 3.

The format for the regional wildcard tour-

nament will be 4 games. The deadline for

entries into the Regional Wildcard tourna-

ment must be postmarked by the Wednes-

day after the final bowling date of your

league. This way every team will know if

they have qualified for the wildcard, won

their district or not qualified. The Re-

gional tournament will be held no later

than two weeks after the end of your

league.

The Executive Board has discussed the

cost for the Regional Wildcard tourna-

ment, and agree that the cost would be

$125.00 per team ($25.00 per bowler for 5

members). This cost will provide money

to cover lineage and additional prize

funds at the National Qualifying tourna-

ment. Lineage at the National tourna-

ment will be $2.00 per game. Local line-

age will have to be an additional charge.

We have suggested that leagues hold a

sweeper for the entire league with 4 of the

games being used for the wildcard teams

qualification. This way the wildcard

teams can participate in the sweeper and

bowl to qualify for the National tourna-

ment without additional lineage charges.

The All Star tournament will be Thursday

night and Friday . We are planning to

have 2 squads Thursday and 3 squads Fri-

day with finals Friday night.
