Happy Spring Everyone!
I’m filling in for President Glenda this month. Here’s a few thoughts fromthe vice-president.
The Taste of Seguin committee has already had several meetings and arepreparing for the big event that takes place on Tuesday, June 21. I know itseems like a long time away, but it’s the Center’s largest fundraiser of theyear and chairperson, KayLynn Hawkins, and her robust committee membersare hitting the pavement finding sponsors, vendors and auction items. Ticketsgo on sale May 1st, and again this year Silver Center members get a $5discount by purchasing tickets in advance at the center. Member tickets are$20. You can also help add to this fundraiser by providing a new item thatcan be included in the Silent Auction or given as a door prize. When thinkingof what to donate, consider something you would buy for yourself at anauction. It always works for me.
The next Swing Dance happens again on Saturday, April 9th, with dancelessons starting at 7:00 pm and dancing from 8:00 - 11:00 pm. The DirtyRiver Dixie Band provides delightful Big Band sounds. Even if you’re nota dancer, you will enjoy the music and watching the San Antonio SwingSociety members as they move across the floor. It’s a fun night!
Please make every effort to stop by the center on Tuesday, April 5th from 9am to noon for the Health and Wellness Expo. Over 20 businesses take timeto participate in the event, and it only works if people attend. So come over, visit with the businesses, hear a lecture or two and, while you’re at it, stayfor lunch.
And finally,,,ever heard of QCD? It stands for Qualified CharitableDistribution and was made a permanent tax provision in January 2016. NowIRA owners who are over 70 ½ have the ability to give their RequiredMinimum Distribution or up to $100,000 to a qualified charity and pay noincome tax on the distribution. If you’re curious how this works, talk to yourtax preparer or financial advisor or call the Silver Center Office.
Enjoy the Bluebonnets!
Kathy NossamanBoard Vice-President
Kim’s Note and QuotesApril 2016
Hello Silver Center readers! Father and Daughter! Mother and Son! Our children are all special to us.From the day they are born to the day they leave home, the time passes oh so quickly. We embrace theirchildhood and do our best to teach them how to succeed with loving guidance. For many of us reading,we are now grandparents. Our grandchildren bring us greater joy than we could have imagined. I speakfrom the heart, as my granddaughter Khloe is four and my grandson, Brysen is two.
Why am I talking about our children and grandchildren? The Silver Center is part of a community withmany children and grandchildren. Whether they are ours or not, we need to invest in them and encouragethem. These children will carry on our traditions and love of our community. That is why I am askingfor all of you to get involved in any way you can with our Medieval Knights Ball scheduled for May7th. Father/Daughters have the Cinderella Ball in June and we are introducing the Mother/Son MedievalKnights Ball in May to encourage the importance of the bond between Mother and Son. This is afundraiser for the Silver Center, which will be a fun and exciting time with the Seguin High SchoolDrama Department providing entertainment. Please come join us at our next committee meeting April11th at 4:30 pm for all the exciting details.
See you soon! Blessings!!Silver Center Executive DirectorKim Manley
Driving Lessons
Mother and son, a moment in time,One want to live, the other to drive.
First of firsts, young son at her wheel,Both on a journey, spanning their lives.
Indian summer, bluebonnet skies,Escaping together into painted fields.
One from the cage with its rigid design,And one from the sadness that family yields.
Exhilaration, he drives through his fears,Faster and faster, wheels hum and glide.
Silent emotion, she tempers her tears,Out on the highway, they sit side by side.
All those years later, with memory pure,His son sits beside him, steady and pure.
~ by James Fredholm

Goetz Funeral HomeGuadalupe Valley Memorial Park
Question:Why does one funeral home charge more
than another for traditional services?
Answer:At first glance, it may appear that all funeral homesessentially offer the same service. However, with atraditional funeral, including the visitation and funeralservice itself, the amenities offered may differ greatly fromone provider to the next. To determine the better value, asimple price comparison is rarely enough.
For instance, we offer an unequalled selection of servicesnot available at many other funeral homes, such asassistance with your families travel accommodations as wellas free 24 hour-a-day access with a licensed grief counselorthrough our Compassion Helpline, National Transferability;should you move more than 75 miles from where youroriginal arrangements were made, your pre-arranged funeralservices are fully transferable and will be honored by anyDignity Memorial provider throughout North America andour exclusive Child/Grandchild Protection Plan;acknowledging that nothing can ease the pain of losing achild or grandchild, we offer financial relief for those whochoose a Dignity Memorial plan. We will provide funeralor cremation services, at no cost, at any Dignity Memorialprovider, up to the level of the plan you have selected. Wedo this because providing your family peace of mind is ourtop priority.
Pricing is naturally a concern when choosing a funeralhome, but I encourage you to consider the true value andthe home’s ability to provide the level of service your familyneeds and deserves.
Your best choice is a funeral home that provides high qualitycare with compassion and respect, offers additional servicesto ease your family’s mind, and has earned a solid reputationthrough years of experience and service. When you areinformed of what you get for each price, you make a betterdecision about what’s right for you.
Wade Lind is a licensed funeral director with Goetz Funeral Home,a member of the Dignity Memorial network serving the Seguincommunity. He frequently offers funeral-related advice andcounseling to area families. For more information, contact Wadeat 830-379-2313.
