Proclaiming the Gospel to the Lost and Developing

Christ-Centered Lives

Bits & Pieces … Odds & Ends … This & That … I have several things I want to “talk about” today. So here we go.

2013 … It doesn’t seem like it was that long ago when people were so concerned about the year 2000 and what was before us. And yet in so many ways it is a distant memory. A new year has begun and with it new adventures … new opportunities.

Results of the congregational vote show unity and harmony. The men all received a 97% or greater confidence vote. The budget was confirmed by over 96%. And there were many positive comments (only one note of discontent). I am so looking forward to seeing what God will do through you and me in 2013.

Wednesday night classes resume on January 09. You can choose either the Gospel of Matthew or a survey of the New Testament. There are also classes for children and youth as well.

“This year I’m gonna …” is the theme we’re going to begin with for the new year. I plan to address a few areas in which we need to reexamine how we are doing and seek to improve in 2013.

Committing scripture to memory. It seems as though this has become a lost virtue. This year I’m going to put a verse of scripture in the bulletin each week. (Still looking for a few favorites to commit to memory – any suggestions?) Who will join me in this challenge?

Fellas, we’ve reserved camp ACC February 8-9 for an overnight retreat. Make plans to take advantage of the time of fellowship.

A personal note. Jo and I want to say thanks. Thanks for loving us, thanks for accepting us as we are and thanks for being so good to us. It was a joy for us to have over 160 people come to our open house. We were blessed with a ton of Christmas cards (ok nearly 200) – many with hand written words of encouragement – THANKS. We received numerous gifts of love and encouragement from our church family – we are richly blessed and so grateful – THANK YOU. Your continued demonstration of love and encouragement amazes us. THANKS! We feel so blessed to be able to share our lives with you.

The first Sunday of the New Year. Why not get it started off right by being in Worship and Sunday School? Invite someone to worship with you. Lord willing, I hope to see you and your guests on the Lord’s Day. I love you with the love of the Lord. Dwight

The challenge from our youth to our church family to tithe at least one day of vacation during the week of Live2Serve to serve others in our church family and community. What a better way for our church to preach the name of Christ than to serve our community in the name of Christ. And what a statement it makes if we make a sacrifice in order to do it.

Love Is In The Air! Well folks, it’s that time of year again; you know - red hearts, pink roses, balloons, cards, candy, and animals that sing songs of love. Store shelves are stocked with flowers, hearts, candy, and more. They began the day after New Year's to get ready for Valentine’s Day. Do you know that more roses are sold on that day than any other day in the year? All over the world, it is the day that people show their love for someone special. Flowers will die. Candy gets eaten. Balloons will pop. Stuffed animals may stop singing. Cards may get lost or thrown away, but the love that is shared with one another, and God’s love for us, will never pass away. May you find little ways to show some acts of kindness to those you love before and after Valentine’s Day this year. Let love be in the air at all times!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
