Dear Brothers and Sister in Christ,

Right around this time of year, I get

antsy. Cabin fever sinks in, and I just want

to get out and do something. Trips like

going to Buehler’s is a big deal. Going to

the gym for an hour or so or wandering

around a store feels like a treat. Tonks isn’t

much better. As a very active pup, all she

wants to do is get out and romp and play, but

she steps outside, feels the freezing

temperatures, and runs directly back into the

house. So much for play time, Pup. There is

a reason why people get depressed in the

winter - the shorter days, less sunlight and

decreased vitamin D levels from the sun

would make anyone cranky and just give

them a general feeling of “blah-ness.”

We sit right on the cusp of spring and we are longing for the warmth of the sun to warm our faces and to thaw the ground so that we can get out! Unfortunately, we have a few months before we can sink our hands into the warm, damp earth and start planting flowers, or before the whirr of lawn mowers

push aside the sound of snow plows. Waiting for the warmth of the sun is hard, especially in a winter like we have been having. Maybe if we lived somewhere tropical, the winter blahs wouldn’t hit us so hard. But, here we are in Ohio, longing for the thaw of spring...

Longing… longing for spring? Longing for the Son… oops, I mean sun…longing for the Resurrection…what better time to have Lent than in the blah-ness of winter? What better time to redirect our thoughts and hearts away from ourselves and towards the Light and Love of God? As the ground lays still to our eyes, covered by a thick layer of snow, it is preparing itself for new life to burst forth! It is preparing itself for the new life that is going to leap forth in just a few months. Plants and trees are storing up sugars in order to bring forth bright blooms and leaves! Animals that are hibernating are laying still in order to be revived by the warmth of the sun again. We could, if we wanted to, hole up in our homes and sit still. We could hunker down under blankets and refuse to come out, or we could be preparing ourselves for the “Son” as well. This is a time to look at how we are living our lives for Christ…. Living our lives for the One who gave all for us. This is a season of preparation. So, what are you doing to prepare yourself for Christ? Think about it… pray about it… that’s the first step to prepare for anything.

Looking forward to having your recipes added to this wonderful collection of already great

recipes! Any Questions, see Melissa Shamel for more information (922-6328).
