Standing Firm in a Changing World! By Dr. Jim Johnson, ECA Superintendent
It was great to see so many of our 734 graduates at our Alumni Night basketball games last month. It appears that
our graduates are growing and maturing while assuming their rightful place in their churches, families, work places,
and communities. Invariably someone will say, “ECA never changes.” While in many ways this is true, there is
actually a method driving our attitudes toward stability amidst change: our view of Scripture as true!
In this article, I hope to articulate our posture toward change in a contrast of message and methods. While ECA
is in its 48th year, many things have changed; however, we have remained unequivocally steadfast in our commitment
to the truth of God’s Word.. I am presenting you the following list in alternating format, yet no particular order;
and you will notice an intentional mix of seriousness and humor! I pray that we will continue to stand firm in
faithfulness to those things which are paramount in the sight of the Lord.
Standing Firm: “More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing
Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that
I may gain Christ, and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law,
but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith…” Philippians 3:8-9
Changing: The location of Mr. Holtcamp’s Art classroom (again in 2018).
Standing Firm: “…God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. He created them male and female,
and He blessed them…” Genesis 5:1b-2a
Changing: ECA becoming fully accredited with ACSI (2010) and ACCS (2018) in recent years.
Standing Firm: “…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…” Romans 3:23
Changing: Standardized testing format from Stanford to TerraNova, and now to the CTP-5 (2019).
Standing Firm: “…for whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13
Changing: The use of Love and Logic (2009) in the classrooms.
Standing Firm: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23
Changing: The integration of Classical Christian methods (2009) throughout our school.
Standing Firm: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
Changing: ECA’s measured approach to incorporating technology in the classrooms (2019).
Standing Firm: “For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife;
and they shall become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24
Changing: An acquired stewardship of our Elementary campus (2010).
Standing Firm: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with
all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27
Changing: Physical attendance at All-School Parent meetings to a webinar viewable online (2019);
reenrollment through pencil and paper methods to Online Enrollment (2019).
We pray for the Lord’s hand of discernment upon our leaders, teachers, parents, and stakeholders each day at ECA!

ECA Theatre presents. . . “Egad, The Woman in White” February 14, 15, & 16
Tickets and information available at www.ecaeagles.org/theatre.
This side-splitting melodrama is based on Wilkie Collins' classic, and it is wild, fast, and funny! It features a disreputa-
ble (and hilarious) villain who dispatches his adversaries with nefarious ease, seals his wife in a madhouse to steal
her vast fortune, and battles a wicked countess in one of the most uproarious fight scenes ever staged. But he's
scared of the mysterious "Woman In White" who's escaped from the asylum to seek him out. Abandoned wives, inso-
lent servants, lawyers, hypochondriacs, and manly drawing masters parade across the stage in gales of comedy,
terminating only when the villain is brought to justice in an audience-cheering, outrageous, and spectacular finale!
In the tradition of the classic melodrama, you will also be entertained by our Olio Players who will delight
you with a variety of comedy acts and singalongs! Don't miss out on a wonderful night of hilarity and fun!
Senior Parent Night! Parents of our Seniors participating in this year's Student Council, Theatre, Matchwits, athletic programs,
and Praise Team will be honored Friday, February 8, at the Eagles’ home basketball games vs. the
Kiowa Indians. Please join us as we honor our parents for their support of ECA extracurricular programs.

Black Forest League High School Basketball
From Coach Wingett… Boys Varsity are off to a great start at 6-3 at this point in the season, working really hard and
improving every day. Senior Braydan Hekkers and Junior Jason Holt are leading the way for the team. Boys JV are
also off to a good start, with Vito Yacovoni, Michael Mann, and RJ Wagner leading the way. This team, made up
mostly of Freshmen, are working hard and improving every day.
Our Lady Eagles wrapped up pre-Christmas play with six out of eight games against 2A opponents, one of the harder
schedules in the State for a 1A school. They currently sit 1-8 overall/0-1 in League play with some competitive and
winnable League games on the horizon. This year’s team is led by Senior Kaley Muth, along with Ella Kim and
Madison Castro. Support play has been provided by Amy Antes, Hadassah Derosier, Kailey DeRuiter, Micah Elpers,
Lily Mann, and Elise Osborne, with Candela Pascual participating after Christmas. Please pray for continued health
of the girls, coaches, and their families as they progress through the remainder of the season.
Come cheer on your Eagles tomorrow, January 18, at HOME vs. the CSDB Bulldogs: Boys-JV 4:30, Girls-Varsity
6:00, Boys-Varsity 7:30, and on Saturday vs. the Colorado Springs School Kodiaks at CSS: Boys-JV 12:00,
Girls-Varsity 1:30, Boys-Varsity 3:00. Go, Eagles!
Black Forest League Junior High Basketball
From Coaches Jim Ross and Kim Will… We can't believe that our time with this great group of players is coming to
an end! We had a tough overtime loss vs. Simla last week, but I think the players learned a lot from that game and we
are looking forward to finishing strong at the League tournament this weekend! We think more important than statistics
of each player during a certain game are the areas we have seen the players work hard on and improve: ball handling
(Michael Kim, Samuel Ross, Andrew Gregory), tough rebounding (Max Hatcher, Colton Jagers, Chase Wallace,
Josiah Wilson), improved shooting (Sebastien Boyle, Max, Daniel Counts), and tougher defense (everyone). We are
so thankful for our time with this group of young men: they have been working extremely hard, improving, having fun,
getting along with each other, growing in Christ, and carrying themselves extremely well in representing ECA!
Our Lady Eagles finished the regular season with a 9-3 overall record, 7-2 in League play. A highlight of the season
so far is an exciting win against a very strong Limon team in December. Most of our competitors see us as the team
to beat, especially after our success over Limon. We have high hopes for the team, even in the midst of injury and illness,
and hope to place high in the League Tournament.
The Black Forest League 1A-2A Tournament continues today, January 17, with both of our teams on HOME court:
Girls host #6-seed Calhan at 5:00pm and Boys host #7-seed Hanover at 6:00 (a full Snack Bar will be available featuring
Louie’s pizza and all the regular goodies). If advanced, on Friday at Calhan the Girls play at 4:00pm and the Boys at
5:00. On Saturday at Calhan, the Girls 3rd Place and Championship Games will both be played at 9:00am, and the
Boys 3rd Place and Championship Games both at 10:00. Go, Eagles!
Christian Schools Athletic League 5th & 6th Grade Basketball
Our Eagles kick off this Saturday, January 19, with the CSAL Friendship Tournament, and the season schedule will be
posted at www.ecaeagles.org, Athletics, Elementary Athletics as soon as it is finalized.
