Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church “To Know Christ and Make Him Known”
An Encouraging Word

E aster egg hunts are a common family Easter ac-
tivity. Most of you probably have many memo-
ries of egg hunts indoors and outdoors at home,
church or in your neighborhood. The goal of course is
to find all the eggs. However, sometimes not every egg is found. And if it
was hidden outside, chances are that the way you eventually found it was
when you ran over the egg while mowing. Even still, the goal of Easter egg
hunts is to find the eggs.
At Easter, I can’t help thinking about how God came in the person of His
Son, Jesus. I’ve been thinking about how He came so that we could know
Him and discover the good and right relationship that He died on a cross
and rose from the tomb to offer to us. What Jesus did changes us when we
come to Him asking for forgiveness and power to live a new life for Him.
This is very simplistic but we can say, Jesus came so that we could find
Him. He really wants us to find Him. He loves us that much. Sometimes
God loving us may be hard to believe especially
when the weight of something we’ve done settles
on us. But still, Jesus loves us and really wants us
to find Him.
A couple of years ago my oldest granddaughter
was learning to play hide-and-go-seek. One day
when my wife brought her to my office to visit, Em-
maline asked if I would play. So, she and my wife,
Elise, left my office to hide together in another part
of the building. They hid and I began to count out
loud. I actually counted very loudly so that Emma-
line could hear and learn more about playing the
game. At number ten I shouted out, “Ready or not,
here I come!” As I walked down the hallway past
the bathroom, other offices and closets I called out
what room I was looking in and asked out loud, “Is

T his ministry continues to be a blessing to our community as we
now have 56 children who receive weekly energy packs at
Hamersville Elementary School. As most of you already know, the
First Baptist Church of Mt. Orab asked to be a part of this outreach
and took over providing for the kids at Mt. Orab Elementary. We are
thankful to God for providing this opportunity for more people to be
involved and help make this a successful outreach.
We also want to thank the many of you at Mt. Nebo who have con-
tributed time, food and prayers. It is much appreciated!

Emmaline in this room?” And each time, Emmaline called back to me, “No.” It was all I
could do to keep from laughing. She didn’t quite understand that she was supposed to keep
quiet. Soon, I came to a room close to where she was hiding. She couldn’t hide any longer
knowing that I was looking for her. And she came running out of hiding to say, “Here I am
Papaw!” And how we laughed and laughed! My first thought was that Emmaline still had
some things to learn about hide-and-go-seek. Then later I realized that she loved me and just
wanted me to find her.
That’s similar to God’s heart toward us. He wants us to find Him. So, God put on a human
body and Jesus came to let us know, “Here I am ___________!” (your name). Easter eggs are
meant to be found. So, are little girls playing hide-and-go-seek. And so is Jesus who rose
from the tomb! Have a great Easter!

Easter Eggs and Candy
R emember hiding and hunting for Easter eggs as a child? Help the children in our congregation and community make memories by donating
plastic eggs, candy or eggs already filled with candy to be used at our Family Easter Event and on Easter Sunday. Not only will our children make memories hunting for eggs, but will also have the opportunity to learn about the true meaning of Easter through activities at the Family Easter Event. During Children’s Church on Easter Sunday we will have a Resurrection Egg Hunt as the children focus on the meaning of Easter as told through Resurrection Eggs. Please bring filled eggs, empty plastic eggs or candy to the church by Sunday, March 18th. Thank you for working with this ministry for our families and children.

What is J.A.M.? J.A.M. is our Monday evening program where children, kindergarten through third grade, will gather on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month for a time of lessons, games, re-lated crafts and snacks. J.A.M. begins at 6 PM and ends at 7 PM in Classroom 1.
This small group meets weekly from 4 to 5 PM every
Monday that school is in session for an after school
snack, study, fun and prayer time. This is a great way
for 4th and 5th graders to grow in their faith by study-
ing and serving together!
Jr. JAM is an interactive small group especially de-
signed for ages 3 through 5. It is a monthly opportunity
for preschoolers, along with a parent, to begin to learn
Bible stories and songs that help them begin to worship
with music, learn simple Bible verses and stories, plus
make a craft or snack.
If you have a preschooler, please consider setting aside
time for Jr. JAM that meets the first Monday of the
month from 6:00 PM to 6:40 PM in Classroom 1.

This is a women’s study group led by Tracy Gibson. The group will be
using the book and study guide, Having a Mary Heart in a Martha
World. Through this study women will discover that the life of a wom-
an today isn’t really that different from that of Mary and Martha in
the New Testament, longing to sit at the Lord’s feet yet balancing
the demands of a busy world.

The Prime Timer Events
O ur January Planning Meeting, hosted by Joyce
Barger, Jim Luckadoo and Ruth Hayslip, got our
year off to a good start. Those in attendance shared a
good meal and then discussed any suggestions for our
2018 monthly events. We thank those who volunteered
to coordinate and host these fellowship activities for
this year.
On February 13th, we once again traveled to the Col-
lege Café in Maysville for a gourmet Valentine meal
prepared by the culinary students. We thank Harlan
and Nancy Moore for hosting the evening. The ladies were all pleased with their long
stemmed roses, not to mention the chocolate candy bars the guys received.
Our March event will be a service project on Friday the 9th as we travel to “Mathew 25
Ministry” facility to volunteer at their supply warehouse. This is always a learning and re-
warding project as we see how large and wide this ministry has become in helping those who
are dealing with the many catastrophic events and their need to have food, clothing, housing,
medical supplies, etc. If you haven’t been there you may want to join us to see and partici-
pate in this wonderful ministry. A tour of the facility is given to those who have never been.
Meet us at the church parking lot at 8:45 AM to car pool if you plan to go.
Check out the sign-up sheet provided in the Narthex for this event and also pick up one of
the Prime Timers’ 2018 schedule of up-coming activities at the Welcome Center counter. Feel
free to join us for any of our fellowship events.
Spring is “almost” here!

Just A Taste
A circuit rider, encountering many a meal
that needed seasoning, carried with him a
tiny bottle of Tabasco sauce. He would put it on
the table before him at eating-houses.
A stranger, eyeing the bottle with curiosity,
asked permission to try it. He put a liberal
quantity on a piece of beef and ate it. There was
a pause.
The stranger (gulping down a glass of water)
sputtered, “Say, parson, you preach hell, don’t
you?”
The circuit rider replied, “I feel it is my duty
to remind the wicked that there is retribution
beyond the grave.”
The stranger replied “Anyhow, you’re the
first preacher I’ve seen who carries samples!”
Praise The Lord
D id you hear about the country parson
who decided to buy a horse? The deal-
er assured him that the one he selected was a
perfect choice.
“This horse,” he said, “has lived all his life
in a religious atmosphere. So remember that
he’ll never start to go if you order ‘Giddyap.’
You’ve got to say, ‘Praise the Lord.’ Likewise,
a ‘Whoa’ will never make him stop. You’ve
got to say, ‘Amen.’”
Thus forewarned, the parson paid for the
horse, mounted him, and, with a cheery
“Praise the Lord,” sent him wandering off in
the direction of the parson’s parish.
Suddenly, however, he noticed that the road
ahead had been washed out, leaving a chasm
two hundred feet deep. In a panic, he forgot
his instructions and cried, “Whoa!” in vain
several times. The horse continued to run for-
ward. At the very last moment he remem-
bered to cry, “Amen.” The horse stopped
short at the very brink of the chasm. But alas!
That’s when the parson, out of force of habit,
murmured fervently, “Praise the Lord!”
