The Fence Post 17th May 2017

HISTORICAL HIGHLIGHTS The meeting of the Historical Society was held at the History centre on Monday 15TH May 2017 with only 10 members present, perhaps it was the lovely wet weather that we had that put them off, it may have been due to the fact that it is only 3 weeks since our last meeting. After the minutes of the previous meeting were read, the correspondence and financial reports presented the meeting was then opened for general business. Discussion points were as follows:-

The seats at the machinery shed are to be repainted to prevent them becoming weather beaten. There is to be a meeting of the Community Shed on June 10th. The Historical society has been invited

to send a representative to assist with organisation of the machinery shed at its rear. Also to discuss the projects that the Men’s Shed are undertaking for the Historical Society.

The rims for the Chev truck have been sourced and tyres are now being sourced. New tyres were a suggestion but they are quite costly, therefore second hand ones are to be sourced.

Fremantle Camera Club will visit Narembeen on 14th October and have requested access to the museums to photograph the exhibits that are on display at all our museums.

The Men’s Shed has offered to supply the necessary paint and labour for the Lanz Bulldog tractor. Maurice Harper arranged for Jack Smith to be photographed on his old Bulldog XL tractor. Jack was

thrilled with this and with the help of his daughter Christine Padfield they managed to get him into the seat. The photograph will be kept at the History Centre.

Ivy Hall donated a silver plated tray with the CWA medallion imbedded in it. This is now in the CWA room of the Church museum.

Approx. 30 people visited the War Museum/Spotter Hunt on Anzac Day. Many positive comments were made.

The next meeting will be held on MONDAY 19th JUNE 2017 at 2.00pm.

Over the Fence…. wishes to sincerely thank all those people who sent or brought flowers, sent cards ,

made phone calls and for enquiries during her recent 6 week stay in the Mount Hospital. They were very

much appreciated.

EULOGY – TERESA LOUISA (TESS) MIOLINI

Teresa Louisa (Tess) was born on 17th May 1918 to parents Dante and Maria Cova, the youngest sister to Jack, Mary, Rene, and Phil. Mum grew up on her parents farm which was about ½ mile from the Wadderin Dam.

She reminisced often about those days recalling the building of the dam with workers and their families coming and going at different stages of construction, the blasting and general activity.

The Cova farm benefited too as the workers got their fresh vegetables, fruit and dairy from the farm. She would also recall going to school with brother Phil on the horse and sulky through a bush track, rain, hail or shine.

In 1928, the Covas moved to Mt Walker but later sold the farm to Alf Walker on the condition that Mum and Dad manage the farm. They stayed there 9 years before buying a farm of their own which had been Sandy Reids. In 1979 they retired from farm life and settled into town life at 21 Doreen Street.

Mum and Dad were married on 12th March 1935 in Merredin. They have four children – Tony, Angelo, (Deceased) Peter (Deceased) and Ann- Me- 17 years after Peter. They had been married 65 Years when Dad passed away on the 11th May,2000.

Mum enjoyed their trips to Italy in 1974 and 1981, to meet and visit relatives throughout Italy and Switzerland. The return trip home in 1974 was on the Galileo, a great cruise ship of the time.

Mum lived in Doreen Street until the middle of 2008 and then moved into Koolberrin Lodge where she stayed till her passing. She enjoyed people visiting and chatting with her. Her fridge was always full as was her cupboard with snacks and drinks. Her night time ritual of a small glass of marsala with ice and bread roll, cheese or salami, obviously worked in her favour. So, how fitting it was that the residents of the Lodge, last Tuesday morning raised a toast to her as their final goodbye.

Mum had many interests. Football was one. Having watched her brother, sons, son-in-law, grandsons and great grandsons play over the years. She loved the “Cardies”, followed the “Swannies” (when the Narembeen boys played) and Peel Thunder (when her grandsons played) and the Eagles. And, of course, the local footy was a Sunday routine for home games. Park the car at the oval early for prime position and then return at lunch with thermos and afternoon tea.

She loved to knit. In the early years the intricate patterns of baby clothes, booties, bonnets, jumpers and later the rug squares.

Mum enjoyed her tennis at the old courts behind the Mt Walker school. I remember well the long ankle length white dress and the whitened volleys and the smallest wooden racquet. She was very proud to have been made a life member of the club in 1981 and continued to donate trophies for many years.

Senior Citizens and Autumn Club became a favourite of Mums whilst at the Lodge. The chance to go on outings, knit, share in laughs and stories and chat with others. She loved company.

It would be remiss of me not to thank the Narembeen community and committees for providing these services and facilities for the seniors to stay in their home town. To Doctor, hospital and staff and to those wonderful carers at the Lodge, who go over, above, and beyond to care for the residents and especially Mum. And to family and friends, near and far, for anything and everything you have done for her. She was forever grateful and loved you all.

Mum, I will always remember the card games of Radio Rummy, the best cutlets ever, that Italian salad, your chicken and polenta, those bloody turkeys killed each year for Christmas orders, the dancing, the parties, the times we shared in Hyden and Mandurah.

I will miss your sayings of “ring me when you get there”, “Anything new on scrapbook” (Facebook), “You wouldn’t remember Ann but Les would”, and “the world has turned upside down”.

You reached an amazing age and worked hard in life and now it’s time to rest.

Thank you for a lifetime of love, support, wisdom and strength. We love you and will miss you dearly.

The last link in the Cova chain has broken only to be re-joined in heaven.

God bless you Mum.

Till we meet again. Read by Ann Welsh

The Poem read by Anna Fricker at the funeral service of Tess Miolini

A Mother’s Love

A Mothers love is something that no one can explain It is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain It is endless and unselfish and enduring come what may For nothing can destroy it or take that love away It is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking And it never fails or falters even though the heart is breaking It believes beyond believing when the world around condemns And it grows with all the beauty of the rarest brightest gems It is far beyond defining It defies all explanation and it still remains a secret like the mysteries of creation A many splendid miracle man cannot understand And another wondrous evidence of Gods tender guiding hand

THANK YOU

Tony, Diana and family wish to thank all family and friends for their

Condolences, cards, phone calls, and for attending Mum’s/Tess’s funeral

We appreciated you thoughts and attendance.

“A second chance to live!”

Open Monday to Friday mornings from 9am to 12noon, on Wednesdays open until 3pm and open most Saturdays.

Last week was a little slow, so we didn’t reach our $100,000 target. Hoping it will happen this week. On June 15, it will be two years since we opened in Narrogin, so to celebrate we will be having a $4.00 bag day on June 19th.

Congratulations to Kristy for guessing the closest number of chocolates in the jar (37), for the Mother’s Day chocolates

Looking forward to seeing the hockey crew come in to dress up for their dinner in June.

This $1,000 is going toward the “Ladies Long Lunch”.

Mt Walker Golf

It was a great day to spend time out in the fresh air, on Sunday, taking time out to celebrate Mothers Day in style. The players enjoyed checking out the clean up job, a couple of the avid players spent time doing

during the week. Thanks for that, lost balls can now be found so much easier albeit a bit black.. lol

Thanks to Mary Cowan for sponsoring the day. We understand that your recovery although slow is progressing ok. We miss seeing your smiling face.

Game for the day was Ambrose and the winning team for the day was Phil Treloar, Paul Walton, Colin Ashmore and Merle Phillips

Runners up was Darren Phillips, Carol Fagan and Jay..

Novelties were - Longest Putt on number #4 - Darren, Carol & Jay

It was nice to see Paul back playing and also great to see some more faces turn up after the game to partake in the finger food and listen to the presentations..

Next week is a sweepstakes round. Old and new players most welcome.

Hockey - A Grade -

The Vipers defeated Narembeen 3-2

It was a beautiful May day on a picture perfect field that Narembeen played the combined side of Kulin/

Kondinin

aka the Vipers.

The local team got off to a great start with a text book goal off a short corner by Emma Main.

A hard fought first half saw lots of changes of possession but no more goals. After half time Narembeen

once again started off with another speccy goal off a short corner by Emma. However the Vipers then ran

away with the game scoring three goals.

Team: Georgia Cowan (goals), Kylee Slade, Maree Sprigg, Shohan Hickey, Gina Cheetham, Holly Burns,

Maddie Della Vedova, Emma Main, Vanessa Pascoe, Hannah Kerse, Lynda Cornish, Jess Padfield, Caroline

Robinson and Sue Kerse.
