Alyssa Sealey is a ten year oldstudent at Mount HarmonyElementary School with a heartof gold. Young Alyssaparticipated in the SIDSwalk/run in 2014 and even wrote a book to tellabout her experience during the walk. At just tenyears old, Alyssa wrote and illustrated this bookdedicated to Landon Carroll Sneade who passedaway from SIDS at the tender age of 2 months old.The fact that someone so young was affected sogreatly by the SIDs walk, speaks volumes of the

momentum gained from this event and the effortsto raise money for SIDS awareness.

Alyssa is a proud big sister to a younger brotherand sister and does extremely well with hersiblings, caring for them in a maternal fashion. Inher book, Alyssa talks about releasing the doves andthe story of Landon being told during the SIDSevent this year. She woke up that morning withsuch excitement and pride in going to this eventand being able to raise money for SIDS education. In her spare time Alyssa likes to play outside, carefor babies and spend time with her friends.

Congratulations Alyssa on such a beautiful articleand wonderful tribute.

There are two families that put a lot of effort both beforethe event and the day of the event that make it asuccess. The Beans family, that started the walk inmemory of JoAnna, provides logistical support by

putting signs along the route so the walkers can find their wayand importantly picking them up again at the end of a long day! Thanks again, it’s a big job.

For several years, the Campbells have joined to honor Devin’smemory and work tirelessly before the event to solicitbusinesses for food and drink donations, as well as tables andchairs and flowers. These are the things that make the event asuccess. And best of all, they cook the hot dogs! For them it is alabor of love and a way of paying it forward. Once again, thankyou for all of your effort.

Parents’ Corner360 Days. What does that mean to you? The first thing that comes to mindis...almost a year. For Casey it was a lifetime, for Paul and I it wasthe best 360 days of our lives. Casey was around long enough tohave one of every holiday with us. He even got one familyvacation, one trip to the beach, one ride on the merry-go-roundand even one stay at Grandma's house. The one thing he did notget, however, is a birthday. No parent should have to decidebetween throwing a funeral or a first birthday party for their child.I decided to skip the funeral and celebrate his life with our familyand friends. My therapist told me to be sure and use this time tosay what I need to say. My immediate thought was, wow thisseems incredibly difficult, impossible even. How can I describe toothers who have not been through this horror, how Paul and I feel. There are no words powerful enough to explain what this feelslike. It is easy to explain how amazing, wonderful and adorableCasey is. Most of you knew him or saw countless pictures andvideos on Facebook. But it’s much harder to explain the feeling ofstrangers coming to your place of work to tell you they are sorry

but..., or the face of the doctor when you arriveat the hospital after you have been holding outhope, they got this all wrong. So I won’t eventry to explain that. What I will say, is that if youdo have kids please make sure you make thema priority. If you think tomorrow is guaranteedI hate to tell you, it’s not. I want to tell youthings like work and material possessions won’t make a difference in the long run. Lastly,I want to tell you to really look at your life, slow down, and make sure to make time forpeople who mean the most to you. I made sure to tell Casey that I loved him so, somuch every night, and that ended up being thelast thing I ever told him.

Celebration for Casey

hen Cody & Paul Leavitt lost their beautiful son Casey on July 5, 2013, five days shy of his birthday; they were in the midst of planning his very firstbirthday party. Their direction took a drastic change. During the course ofthis past year, healing began, friendships formed, memories remained and a

new vision was conceived. The Leavitt’s planned not ONE but TWO birthday celebrationsin honor of Casey to benefit the Center for Infant & Child Loss. The first day was abirthday party filled with all the fixings of any typical child’s party; music, party favorsand a beautifully decorated cake. The second day was a tribute concert with many localbands singing to a sellout crowd at the Baltimore SoundStage. The highlight of theevening was the ever popular band All Time Low. Band members Alex Gaskarth (leadsinger, guitarist), Jack Barakat (guitarist), Zack Merrick (Bassist) and Rian Dawson(Drummer) put on the performance of a lifetime with their acoustic sound, memorablelyrics and amazing voices. It was a phenomenal show and truly a great time was had byall who attended. The Leavitt’s ended this most memorable weekend with a birthday giftto the Center to the tune of $18,000. Thank you very much Paul & Cody for thiswonderful gift in loving memory of your son Casey.
