    Editors NoteDear Readers,

This is our 4th of July issue and we are featuring non other as Roxanne Bocanegra a very independent model on the center fold. She represents the women of today who can juggle a career and a love and passion for her dream to become a model. We also are in the mist of many changes in our great nation. We have citizens gaining rights to marry the same sex and Trump exercising his freedom of speech to make racist remarks during his announcement to run for President. Good luck with that campaign. We also have two Latinos running for President. In future issues we will be following the Presidential race closely and encourage everyone to look closely at all the candidates. Your vote counts. It is your voice. Thanks you for you continued support and as always, we invite you to contact us. Feedback is very important to us.

    Sincerely, Lucy BocanegraEditor

  • 6Cafe con LecheSmall Up-and-Coming Pub-lisher Offers Great Summer Reads in Two Languages!

Last year, Leticia Gomez, CEO and founder of Savvy Literary Services, one of the few minority-oriented publishing firms in the country, created and launched a new book imprint known as Caf con Leche in association with Virginia-based independent publisher Kehler Books. A publishing professional since 1993, Gomez has distinguished herself as a bilingual literary agent who strategically and tirelessly champions the work of minority writers who have a difficult time securing literary representation.

Caf con Leches steadfast mission is to produce and publish books of uncompromising quality, written in English and Spanish, and intended for wide distribution and readership. Every literary work published under this imprint is written by Latino authors or contain themes that are of great interest to a universal Latino audience.

Our books are created by design to nourish the mind, warm the heart, and soothe the soul and are best enjoyed with freshly brewed caf con leche. From beginning to end, Caf con Leche books are good to the last word! Gomez states on the imprints official webpage.

Caf con Leche works with literary agents, established writers, and talented emerging authors seeking a collaborative publisher to burnish their work and build their brand. All imprint titles receive national distribution to all major book retailers, libraries and wholesalers, both in print and digitally. They are also available for foreign and audio distribution.

Just in time for great summer reading, Caf con Leche is pleased to announce the publication of its first three titles:

The Intriguing Life of Ximena Godoy, the latest novel to come from the writing desk of critically acclaimed and award-winning Chicana/Latina author Graciela Limn, is the first title being published by Caf con Leche. Revenge and murder define Ximena Godoys story. Her lifetime spans the first half of the 20th century, a transformative time of revolution, economic depression, uprooting and migration. Her story portrays an ever-changing woman who morphs from sheltered child into a complex, deeply flawed human being, passionate and independent, quick to love unconditionally, but just as ready to cling obsessively to revenge, a flaw that leads her into the murky world of murder and criminal justice.

Limn is the author of several novels, including The Madness of Mam Carlota (2012); The River Flows North (2009); Erased Faces (2001), which was awarded the 2002 Gustavus Myers Outstanding Book Award; The Day of

the Moon (1999); Song of the Hummingbird (1996); The Memories of Ana Caldern (1994, 2001); and In Search of Bernab (1993), which as a finalist for the Art Seidenbaum First Novel Award and was named a Notable Book of the Year by The New York Times Book Review.

In Chickenhawk, a novel penned by Arnaldo Lopez, Jr., New York Citys mean streets have become a killing field, and two homicide detectives must hunt the crazed killer targeting young, male, Hispanic prostitutes. Things get even more complicated when politics and a crooked private investigator enter the fray.

Eddie Ramos is a cop. He and his partner, Tommy Cucitti, are detectives in the elite squad known as Manhattan North Homicide. Eddies an old-fashioned kind of cop who is put to the test when young men and boys start turning up dead all over his town, young men and boys that share a common source of livelihood as prostitutes. Tommy Cucitti is younger, brasher, more of a hothead and usually in trouble. Tommy and Eddie are two different kinds of men who are the same kind of copdedicated, hardworking and resourceful. Theyre after a serial killer who manages to stay below their radar while the body count climbs in a city thats turning into a powder keg.

Arnaldo Lopez has been employed by the MTA for twenty-six years and was formerly employed as a dispatcher with the NYPD. He is also a speaker and trainer, speaking on subjects as diverse as terrorism and customer service. Lopez created the civilian counter-terrorism training program currently in use by New York City Transit and many other major public transportation agencies around the country. Chickenhawk is his first novel.

Al Margen del Destino/On the Edge of Destiny by Jorge Leiner is Caf on Leches inaugural Spanish-language title. This contemporary fantasy novel with magical realism elements explores the two ways of thinking: either the course of any event is not predetermined and answers only to the chaos and blind luck, or there is, indeed, fate or destiny controlled by universal laws of nature that deliver every person toward some inevitable result, within some sort of general plan. Santiago Kant refuses to believe in destiny. For him, his repeated failures in the constant search for success, love, and the true meaning of his existence all boils down to a matter of bad luck and missed opportunities. However, this all changes the day that an Italian mathematician named Lazzaro Prati appears in his life and shows him that the guiding force known as destiny, which supposedly shapes the movement and history of every human being on this planet does in fact exist and in the same way that a continent can be crossed by a geological fault line, there lies a defect in destinys own plan that can change its entire structure. Its a matter of an imperfection that exists in a physical presence, in a person who is on the edge of destiny . . . Santiago Kant himself.

Santiago is the strange variable in a deterministic universe. He is a man born without a written history, incapable of penetrating the structured walls of destiny. His only hope is to allow himself to be changed in accordance to a plan devised by the brilliant mathematician Lazzaro Prati, a plan which has taken the scientist two decades to perfect through the use of methods that are well-grounded in the obscure space that exists between science and magic, all made possible by a fantastic instrument known as The Shikata Ga Nai.

Jorge Leiner wrote his first story at the age of seventeen. At a young age he exhibited a strong affinity toward the beauty of the written word and a special interest for the truth that exists in the scientific method. It was this interest that propelled him to acquire an engineering degree years later, but without ever losing sight of his passion for books and the written word. He currently resides in Mexico City.

  • 8Blackhawks Win Stanley CupStory by Lucy BocanegraPhotos by Associated Press

Tampa Bay Lightening - 0, Chicago Blackhawks - 2 and the Stanley Cup goes to the most loved Hockey team in the U.S. (for the time being).

Three wins in the last six years is not bad for a hockey team. Not bad at all, most hockey fans would agree. Few days before the game, fans of the NHL were preparing

for the game that took place on Tuesday. Talks of a parade and hitting the streets to celebrate filled every household. As soon as the win was seen, reports from fans were made of all the fireworks from the south side of Chicago to the north.

Our drive to the area we were staying at for the visit was entertaining! People took to the streets and shouted, #1 others yelled Black Hawks, champions!: as drivers honked their horns. A wonderful sight to see when a city is beaming with much pride. I myself a Dallas Stars fan couldnt help honk my horn and cheer the fans on.

The Stanley Cup has been awarded

since 1918 and the Montreal Canadiens have won 23 of those. This is Chicagos 6th time winning the Stanley Cup. Past wins are in 1934, 1938, 1961,2010 , 2013 and this year 2015.

The first moment that made the win real was when Duncan Keith was announced and awarded the unanimous Conn Smythe Trophy winner as the playoff MVP.Keith is the ninth defense man to win the award since its inception in 1964-65. The crowd cheered and for the next few days I am sure jerseys sporting the number 2 were and still are in demand. This visit to Chicago was red hot!

  • 9Tejano Band Marches On Q & A with LA TROPA Fby Lucy Bocanegra

Dallas, TexasThe opportunity to see La Tropa F live in Dallas will be at the upcoming JB Kustoms Car Show at Fair Parks Automobile Building is exciting. It has been a while since they have played at a public event in Dallas. Working with organizer Joe Ruiz for the July 26th event gave me the opportunity to do a litle Q & A with La Tropa F.

TSSM: How many years have you all been performing?TROPA F: The Band has been around since early 70s

TSSM: Who writes most of the music?TROPA F: The song writers for the group are Jaime Farias and Joe Farias andJesse Farias Jr

There was turbulence and negativity along the way but, we stuck together which leads us to our Cd Title No Regrets. We thank God we have had some of the best years lately of our careers.

TSSM: What is the biggest accomplishment as a band?TROPA F: I think we can all agree on the biggest accomplishment. For this band, it has been keeping the band together as a family.

TEJANOSJAMS.COMS1ST ANNUAL SUMMER FESTIVALBRIDGING GAPSBy Lucy BocanegraPhotos by Luzette Portillo

Dallas, TexasOn June 21st, the Margret Hunt Bridge

served as a beautiful backdrop of what could have been one of Dallas biggest summer events. Tejanosjams.com staff worked hard to secure a wonderful Tejano line-up, but mother nature did not act kindly.

DVA Kidz and Jazmin Pena were able to perform before the rain started to pour. There still was dancing on the levy bridge that runs parallel to the new Margret Hunt Bridge. Overall

Pachuco Pete Pena eventually made the call to open the gates and make it a free event. The crazy Texas weather was the top reason why the event was not as packed as predicted. This is just something no one has control over.

  • 13

Despite the rain and the bands being canceled due to safety; the show went on, especially the car show portion of the event.

Patrons enjoyed the vehicles and bikes from car clubs such as Royal Classics, Presidentez and Homitoz. The bridge was a perfect backdrop for pictures. said model Roxanne who had her own photographer from Tejas Mas Firme Photography (San Antonio, Texas) and Trendkill Photography taking pictures. Over all the people who did attend and stick it out through the weather are enthusiastic and already talking about next years Summer Festival. They see the trend and love the combination of Tejano bands and car shows uniting and bridging the gap between two cultures.
