Bible lessons, music, games, snacks, crafts, skits - VBS has it all! Children ages three to finished 6th grade are invited for a fun-filled week of learning more about Jesus. This year, we are planning The Incredible Race VBS for June 17-21, 9 am - noon. Awana Awards Night and Pizza Party Sunday, May 5 at 6:00 PM Everyone is invited to join us as we celebrate another great session of Awana! You will be blessed as the children share what they have learned and as we honor our Awana leaders! It is time to honor our 2019 High School Graduates! On Sunday Morning, May 26 during Morning Worship we will recognize and present Bibles to our graduates and on Wednesday, May 29 at 7:00 PM we will have our annual Graduate Recognition Meal and Program. Plan to bring a covered dish and lets enjoy a special time with these young people and their families. Mens Ministry Breakfast Sunday, May 19, 8:15am All men and boys are invited to enjoy a good breakfast and to be blessed by this encouraging time of fellowship and sharing with the men of our church As a church, what do we believe? We believe in the authority of the Bible. We believe that the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are the verbally inspired Word of God, they are without error in the original writings, and they are the complete and final revelation of God. We believe in the Triunity of God. There is only one God, eternal- ly existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Who are co-equal in their essential nature, attributes, and perfection; and each of Whom is to be honored and worshiped as God. We believe that Jesus Christ is God the Son, the promised Messiah, conceived in the flesh by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, true God and true man, without sin, and the only mediator between God and Man. We believe that Jesus Christ, through His death on the cross, paid for all sin, completely satisfied the righteous wrath of God against sin, and provided redemption and forgiveness for all who believe. After His death, Jesus Christ arose bodily from the dead, was seen by many during a period of forty days, and then ascended into Heaven where He is seated at the right hand of God as our Advocate and High Priest, from which place He will some day return to establish His Kingdom on earth. We believe that the Holy Spirit is that Person of the Triune Godhead who convicts men of sin, causes spiritual birth, indwells, seals, sanctifies, guides, equips, teaches, and fills the believer, thus enabling him to walk in obedience to God and His Word. We believe that man was created by God in His own image and is not the product of evolution; he fell into sin through personal diso- bedience to the revealed will of God; and as a result, all mankind is sinful in nature and practice, is unable to save himself, and faces eternal separation from God. We believe that man is saved from sin, death and hell by the free gift of God's grace, and our salvation is based solely upon man's personal faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Jesus voluntari- ly died as a substitutionary sacrifice for our sins and arose bodily from the dead, thus guaranteeing our own resurrec- tion to eternal life. This salvation is not received by, nor based on, any sacrament, merit, or good work on our part. This one who receives Christ's salvation is eternally secure. We believe that at death, the redeemed pass immediately into the presence of Christ and there remain in joyful fellowship until their bodily resurrection unto life. The unsaved at death descend immediately into the present Hell where they are kept under punishment until their bodily resurrec- tion resulting in eternal damnation to the Lake of Fire. We believe that all who have placed their faith in Christ are united together immediately by the Holy Spirit in one spiritual body, the church, of which Christ is the Head. In addi- tion, the members of this one spiritual body are directed to associate themselves together in local churches. These lo- cal independent churches have been given the needed authority and scriptural guidelines for administering that order, discipline, and worship which Christ, the sovereign head, had appointed. The biblically designed officers serving un- der Christ and over the church are pastors and deacons. We believe that two ordinances have been committed to the local church: baptism and the Lords supper. Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the triune God. This ordinance, being a command of Christ, is recognized as a prerequisite for membership in the lo- cal church. Likewise, the Lord's supper was instituted by Christ for commemoration of His atoning death. These two ordinances are to be observed until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that one of the coming great events in the fulfillment of prophecy concerning the church is the personal, bodily return of the Lord to remove from the earth His waiting church and to reward them according to their works. Another event yet to come is the seven year period of tribulation during which the judgements of God will be poured out upon the unbelieving world. These judgements will climax with the return of Christ in glory to the earth. He will destroy His enemies and restore Israel to her land. Christ will then establish His thousand-year kingdom in which the saints will reign with Him over Israel and all the nations of the earth. At the close of the thousand year reign the unsaved dead will be raised and committed to eternal punishment and the saved will enter the eternal state of glory with God. See you Sunday, Bro. Horatio G. Spafford was a successful lawyer and busi-

nessman in Chicago with a lovely family - a wife, Anna,

and five children. However, they were not strangers to

tears and tragedy. Their young son died with pneumonia

in 1871, and in that same year, much of their business

was lost in the great Chicago fire. Yet, God in His mercy

and kindness allowed the business to flourish once more.

On Nov. 21, 1873, the French ocean liner, Ville du Havre

was crossing the Atlantic from the U.S. to Europe with

313 passengers on board. Among the passengers were

Mrs. Spafford and their four daughters. Although Mr.

Spafford had planned to go with his family, he found it

necessary to stay in Chicago to help solve an unexpected

business problem. He told his wife he would join her and

their children in Europe a few days later. His plan was to

take another ship. About four days into the crossing of

the Atlantic, the Ville du Harve collided with another

ship. Within approximately 12 minutes, the ship slipped

beneath the dark waters of the Atlantic. 226 of the pas-

sengers perished including the four Spafford children.

Anna Spafford survived. Mr. Spafford booked passage

on the next available ship and left to join his grieving

wife. With the ship about four days out, the captain

called Spafford to his cabin and told him they were over

the place where his children went down. According to

Bertha Spafford Vester, a daughter born after the trage-

dy, Spafford wrote “It Is Well With My Soul” while on

this journey. When peace like a river attendeth my way,

When sorrows like sea billows roll, Whatever my lot,

Thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my

soul. Anna gave birth to three more children. The Spaf-

fords remained ever faithful to the Lord for the rest of

their lives. Thank God for the peace and assurance that

He gives us so that we can sing even in the face of trage-

dy. God is worthy to be praised!
