Welcome to a new year with the I.M.T., we have a lot planned. Our calendar was a bit late coming out due to fine-tuning of dates for grad- ings and tournaments, but we now have it fully con- firmed and booked. We have again set out have 3 Tourna- ments, 2 Training Camps (1 all rank, 1 black-belt), and another social day at Wet’N’Wild. Each month we have a Saturday training session at a different venue, and a Friday night dedicated Black-Belt training sessions. Try to ensure you attend these sessions if at all possi- ble. This year we are intro- ducing a new element to our tournament series, a new division for Team Demonstra- tion. This will replace the Team-Pattern, which can still be performed in the new division. For those of you whom have attended our training camps may-be famil- iar with this competition. You have a time limit, (maximum of 5 minutes) in which you display a mini demonstration of Tae Kwon Do with an I.M.T flavor. Some sugges- tions for the demos would be to include as many differ- ent areas of training as possi- ble. Team pattern, self- defense, set-sparring, cho- reographed fight sequences, kicking displays, pad work, board breaking, jumping kicks are some things that spring to mind when I think of what could be included in the 5 minutes. You can use music, you can use stage props, and a small amount of acting is always fun to see. Use your imagination and be creative. Team size can be from 2 up to 10 but consider that the demo must be on the padded tournament floor. Good luck to all those teams that I have seen prac- ticing and look forward to seeing every one get in- volved in this competition. At the end of next month we have the Black- belt training camp at Mount Glorious. We have opened the camp up to black-tips, but the focus is on advanced training black-belt style. I hope to see all of these ranks from our clubs to be at this weekend event. Starts 7pm Friday 23 rd May, finishes 2 pm Sunday, bring all your own supplies from bedding to food. Ask you instructor for more details, and make sure you attend if you’re eli- gible. Later in the year we have our pilgrimage to Ma- pleton up in the hills of the sunshine coast. August 15 th - 17 th , mark this one in you calendar today! This is a must attend weekend, if you have never been to one of our camps, then this is the one to be at. The focus is on you, the student. You will have one of the most intense weekends of training avail- able, set at a fantastic venue, with all you meals supplied, it promises to be a great event. As some of you may have noted, I have been making the rounds of the clubs. Each month I am try- ing to get to every club at least once. So far the re- sponse has been very posi- tive. I am hoping to help get some uniformity in our stan- dards in all areas, help im- prove patterns, and give the instructors a hand to chal- lenge themselves as well. It is always good to hear a differ- ent voice at class, even if it is still telling you the same thing. Speaking of a different voice, we are looking for a non-instructor to help assist with maintaining our Web page. Due to work loads and family commitments we would like to hear from tal- ented members whom may be interested in maintaining the information on the site. If you feel this could be you then let me know. Well that’s about it for now, I look forward to see- ing you all at class over the course of year. Remember to always push yourself; no one else should have too. Train hard, kick high, see you all soon. As I'm sure you are all aware the first round of our tournament series is only a few short weeks away on the 19th

of April. This year we are introducing a new section:

"Team Demonstrations!" While it's a lot of fun to test your creativity; demos are a great way to practice and learn new stuff which is often above your rank such as weapons, ground work and flashy jump spin techniques. There are many key aspects to making an exciting demonstration and standing out from the other groups. To help start you on creating the perfect Tae Kwon Do demonstra-tion, here are a few areas about the rules and scoring to help you on your way. Demonstra-tions will be marked out of 30 points divided into the following sections : Technique 10 Points, Strength 5 Points, Timing 5 points, Creativity 5 Points and Content 5 Points. Incorporate multiple aspects of Tae Kwon Do such as patterns, self defence, pad work, weapons, board breaking, ground work and sparring. Focus on maintaining excellent technique and strength to make everything look sharp and stand out. Remember to add a sense of realism to self defence; grab each other strong, go with the hits and break fall. Background music is a great way to create a thrilling atmosphere. If you need inspiration ask your instructor or watch martial arts movies. Good luck with the tournament, Joseph and Robert Sandona.

Hello from all of us on Bribie. We hope that you had a great start to the training year and by now are in full gear preparing for all the exciting events we have planned for this year. This year's tournaments are looking to be a real highlight with the demonstration competition being introduced this year, so if you can I really encourage everyone to come along and either com-pete or support your fellow club members. The Bribie club continues to flourish with everyone training hard to achieve their goals as martial artists. We've now been at our current location at the Bribie Island State School for a little over a year now and have settled in nicely, and with the

gree black belt instructor is cur-rently on holidays for 7 weeks hiking the Himalayas in Nepal and Bhutan, as such the instruct-ing has been left up to my self and our up and coming assistant instructor Connor, so thought Lee wont be at the first Grading or Tournament she wishes eve-ryone the best of luck and looks forward to seeing how much everyone, across all of IMT, has progressed when she gets back. So train hard everyone, my self and everyone out here on Bribie Island look forward to seeing you all at the upcoming events. From Mike and Lee Co-instructors Bribie Island Club

promise of air-conditioning be-ing installed in the next few months, I can speak for every-one here at Bribie in saying we quite happy with our current training venue. As previously mentioned, this year's tournaments see the intro-duction of the demonstration competition. IMT has a long and proud history of perform-ing outstanding demonstrations at Fetes, Carnivals and Martial Arts Expos, so the demonstra-tion competitions at this year's tournament are certainly some-thing that no one should miss. So if you haven't been to one of our tournaments yet, then you should really come along to them this year. In more news, Lee, our 2nd de-

Welcome back to training for another year, and although the year has only just begun, the Bald Hills club will be going through a change in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, my future work commitments, coupled with my recent engagement, will make it impossi-ble to run the class with my full attention. For the benefit of the students at Bald Hills I have decided to hand the full time running of the class to Joseph and Robert Sandona from the

Kallangur NewsKallangur News Once again the year is off to a flying kick start, with the first 3 months vanishing into thin air. I would like to thank all the Kallangur students for their patience with their new instructor. This can always be a difficult time for students adjusting to a new instructor, although most of you have had the pleasure and or displeasure of being hammered by me in the past. With the first round of tour-naments approaching I encourage all students to get involved to some degree. This year brings the change of team’s patterns to teams demonstrations which I would like to see as many people from all the clubs get involved with. It’s amazing to see the creativity of so many combined into one skil-ful and technical demo. It always brings students out of their comfort zones and pushes you to try new things which always have positive improvements on ones all round abilities.

Remember Remember :: With the colder months looming it’s important to warm up and down properly as it will ease the strain on cold muscles, and help you perform to your best.

Welcome back to another exciting year, now before you read any further, make sure you read the Bald Hills article on page 3. Read it? Good. CONGRATULATIONS to Joe and Rob on teaching their own class! It’s truly exciting when you teach your own class for the first time. Of course the boys aren’t strangers to the gang at Bald Hills, they helped out Daniel last year by taking his class when he was sidelined with a broken leg. On a per-sonal note, I would like to express my pride in Joe and Robert, who I have had the pleasure of teaching for many years now, and watched them grow up and de-velop into fine martial artists. It’s a great feeling to have students with as much dedication as these two, step in front of a class and become instructors. I’m sure everyone at IMT will join me in wishing you both the best of luck at Bald Hills! 2008 looks to be another successful year at Redcliffe, we have a lot of higher ranks in both the junior and sen-ior classes who will be looking at achieving their 1st grades and Black Belts during the year, so within the next 12 months expect there to be some stiff competi-tion at the tournaments! Keep Training Hard!

REDCLIFFE REVIEWREDCLIFFE REVIEW G’day to all, I hope 2008 has begun well for every-body and you are all getting what you desire out of your training. We got the new year off to a

flying start with lots of hard work and a raffle aimed at purchasing some floor mats for our club. The raffle was drawn on Tuesday April 1 with the winner being Chris Henry! (David from Banyo class’s Dad). The first camping trip with his new big ice box is already planned. I would like to thank everyone that supported us and especially those very kind people that do-nated the prizes. We raised enough money to buy 16 mats which will help us no end in keeping up with IMT’s broad curriculum. It is this curriculum that helps us rate so highly in the martial arts community and makes our self defence system so effective. Hope to catch up with everyone on grading day, good luck to all those attempting the step up to the next level.
