The Native American PowWow previously scheduled for June 28, 2015 has neces-sarily been rescheduled to Sunday, August 30, 2015. Details about guests and attendance criteria will be given out to those active participants at the Native Ameri-can Sweatlodge. If you have questions, please send a kyte to Chaplain Armstrong at Box 329.

You will have noticed that there are some new signs on the outgoing mail drop-boxes. Essentially, the new process sorts the outgoing mail in a way that will get it out to the USPS faster, allowing the MPC staff to get your incoming mail in sooner.

Kytes—They have not changed. Same box. [No Medical kytes or grievances, they have their own boxes.] Postaged USPS—Does your envelope already have a “Forever” stamp on it? If so,

it goes in the slot next to the kytes—in the same big wooden box. [If every-body does this correctly, these items go directly to the USPS without delay, as everything is pre-postaged.] Needing Postage?—Anything that needs postage applied to it goes in the metal (with the slot on the front) box. This would be all manila envelopes, all greeting cards (notice they don’t already have Forever stamps?), and any item with a CD28 attached (Legal Mail only). Notice that these envelopes all have “Postage Paid” stamped on them by Canteen. [The MPC must put postage on all of these (the postage is paid, but has not been applied to the envelope, yet), so if you place them in the wrong box, they may be delayed by going to the post office first without postage].

Heat stroke can kill or cause damage to the brain and other internal organs. Although heat stroke mainly affects people over age 50, it also takes a toll on healthy young athletes. Heat stroke often occurs as a progression from milder heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, fainting, and exhaustion. Heat stroke results from prolonged exposure to high temperatures -- usually in combination with dehydration. Symptoms of Heat Stroke: The hallmark symptom of heat stroke is a core body tem-perature above 105 degrees Fahrenheit. But fainting may be the first sign. Other symptoms include: Throbbing headache, dizziness and light-headedness, lack of sweating despite the heat, red, hot, and dry skin, muscle weakness or cramps, nau-sea, rapid heartbeat-which may be either strong or weak, rapid shallow breathing, behavioral changes such as confusion, disorientation, or staggering, seizures, uncon-sciousness. First Aid for Heat Stroke: If you suspect that someone has a heat stroke, immediately call for medical assistance. While waiting for health services, initiate first aid. Move the person to an air-conditioned environment -- or at least a cool, shady area. Risk Factors for Heat Stroke: The risk of heat-related illness dramatically increases when the heat index climbs to 90 degrees or more. Pay attention to the reported heat index, and also to remember that exposure to full sunshine can increase the reported heat index by 15 degrees. Other risk factors associated with heat-related illness in-clude health conditions. These include heart, lung, or kidney disease, obesity or un-derweight, high blood pressure, diabetes, mental illness, sickle cell trait, alcoholism, sunburn, and any conditions that cause fever. Preventing Heat Stroke: When the heat index is high, it's best to stay in an air-conditioned environment. If you must go outdoors, you can prevent heat stroke by taking these steps- wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, and a wide-brimmed hat. Drink extra fluids. To prevent dehydration, it's generally recommended to drink at least eight glasses of water. Because heat-related illness also can result from salt depletion, it may be advisable to substitute an electrolyte-rich sports drink for water during periods of extreme heat and humidity. Take additional precautions when exercising or working outdoors. The general recommendation is to drink 24 ounces of fluid two hours before exercise, and consider adding another 8 ounces of water or sports drink right before exercise. During exercise, you should consume another 8 ounces of water every 20 minutes, even if you don't feel thirsty. Other strat-egies for preventing heat stroke include: Monitoring the color of your urine. Darker urine is a sign of dehydration. Be sure to drink enough fluids to maintain very light-colored urine. Avoid fluids containing caffeine because it can make you lose more fluids and worsen heat-related illness.
