The sophomores, juniors, and
seniors will be going to Park
Square Theater in Saint Paul and to the Minneapolis Institute of Art
on April 26, 2017. Students will
leave at 6:15 a.m. and return
about 6:00 p.m. Originally, the juniors and sen-
iors had plans to go see the play A
Raisin in the Sun earlier this year,
but due to weather it had to be rescheduled. Now we will be
seeing the play Macbeth and the
sophomores will be joining us
with Ms. Wojcik. Other chaper-
ones include Mrs. Anderson and
Ms. Schultz.
Students are encouraged to
bring $15-20 for lunch. Snacks during intermission will be $2.
The 7th graders in Mrs. Wo-
jcik’s class have been studying
Shakespeare and “Romeo and Juliet”. They first started by
watching the movie “Romeo and
Juliet” then they read the play.
On April 19, Mrs. Wojcik is taking the 7th graders to go and
watch “Romeo and Juliet” that
was produced and directed by
Sharon Thalmann. It will be at the AAAA in Alexandria at 9 a.m.
Afterwards they are eating lunch
at about 11 a.m. After lunch they
will split into groups and learn about the combat they use and
mask making. At about 1 p.m.
they will switch and at 2 p.m.
they will head back to the school.
With the end of the school year coming, I am sure that everyone
is now counting the days until we get out of school. As of April 19,
2017 we have 28 days left of school without counting the weekends. Although, if you add in the weekends we would have 38 days until
May 26, 2017 our last day of school!!!
At school we also have a number
of activities coming up like the Year-
book Signing Party, Prom, The
Spring Concert, Kindergarten
Graduation, Awards Day, Baccalau-
reate, Elementary Track and Field, and the annual end of the year soft-
ball game plus the Day of Caring that will be held at the end of May.
Also, I am sure that everyone is getting at least a little case of
Spring fever. Everyone is probably gearing up for activities like camping, bonfires, swimming, fishing, and all of those other fun
thing that summer entails.

Continued from page 1... Abbie is the daughter of Jill
and Jeremy Evavold. She is 17
years old. In school she is in-volved in volleyball, softball,
basketball, FFA, mock trial, choir,
band, yearbook staff, and student
council. Abbie states that she likes being a leader and that she
likes how our government works.
However, she would like to make
everyone’s voice heard and listen to different ideas. She feels that
our justice system is pretty well
put together but there are several
areas that could use some work. In her spare time, Abbie spends
time with her family and her
friends. After graduation she
plans to attend college to become a Dental Hygienist.
Hope is the daughter of
Nicole Graff and Amund Haar-
stad. She is 17 years old. In school she is involved in mock
trial, choir, elementary yearbook
editor, and writes articles for the
school newspaper. She likes being a leader and setting a good exam-
ple. Hope thinks that our govern-
ment needs improvement and
would improve it by making her voice heard and standing up for
what she believes in. She believes
that our justice system could be improved, but overall it is very
effective. In her spare time Hope
likes to be with her family and
hang out with her friends. After graduation from high school she
plans to go to college and become
a Flight Attendant and eventually
start a family. For the past 69 years, the
American Legion Auxiliary has
sponsored and operated the
American Legion Auxiliary Min-nesota Girls State Program. This
program is for girls from around
the entire state who have com-
pleted their junior year in high school. It is an interactive pro-
gram teaching Minnesota govern-
ment on how to form city, county,
and state government offices. They vote for and carry out
elected and appointed positions in
government. This program gives
participants the experience of living together as self-governing citizens with
the privileges, rights, and responsibili-
ties of American citizenship, plus
gaining knowledge of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Squirrel Attempts To Eat Taco

Brooklyn resident Maria Bi-anchi recently captured a picture
of a squirrel in a tree. Taco squir-

caught on camera. This trend began September, 2015, with an
appearance of “Pizza Rat”… a
rodent dragging a piece of pizza
down the stairs in a New York City subway.

Nearly three million people
visit Mount Rushmore each year.
The busiest months are June, July and August. May, September and
October are less busy but still
popular months to visit as well.
Exploring all that Mount Rush-more and the surrounding Black
Hills has to offer would be a great
summer vacation.
Metallica bassist’s son to play in
Korn’s South America tour
Due to an unforeseen circum-stance rock group Korn’s bassist

The Helmets will be playing with

Metal Music is good
for your Health
A new study claims metal music to be good for your health.
There is the stereotype that metal-
heads are angry and depressed,
but a new study claims that it does the exact opposite.
Researchers from the Univer-
sity of Queensland Australia said
that when they exposed people to harder music like Heavy Metal,
Hard Rock, and Punk that the
participants experienced only
positive emotions like happiness, calmness, and inspiration.
Student Leah Sharman and
psychologist Genevieve Dingle
conducted the experiment on 39 volunteers ranging in age from 18
to 34 years old. They were asked
to recall a bad memory and were
shown after exposure to the music they were less aggressive. http://www.sciencealert.com/here-s-why-

The NHL announced Monday
that it will not participate in the
2018 PyeongChang Olympics, ending a run of five consecutive
Winter Olympics with NHL play-
ers.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has repeatedly said in the
past several months that the own-
ers were against Olympic partici-
pation for a variety of
reasons. In
the United
States, 73 percent said
they were
not in favor.
In Canada, it was 53 percent against the break.
The Minnesota
Twins started the
2017 season on April
3. They started the
season 3-0 for the
first time in the last 10 years.
T h e 2 0 1 7 M i n n es o t a Twins season is the 57th season
for the franchise in the Twin Cit-
ies, their eighth season at Target
Field, and the 117th overall in the American League.
The Twins next few games
are against the Cleveland Indians
on April 20, and the Detroit Ti-gers on April 21 through 23.
Last season was the Twins
56th season in the MLB and they
were in last place in the MLB with a 59-103 record (.364).
ABE Track has been having
a very successful season so far.
The throwers are doing very well. ABE tracksters have been
working very hard at practices.
They work hard to accom-

rooms. Track meets are very
exciting and there is a lot going
on. Make sure to come cheer on

On Monday April 3, the
Arrows played the West Central
Area Knights. Giving up two errors we lost the game 10 - 5.
The Knights scored 7 runs in the
5th inning to take the lead.
On April 6, we faced the Brandon/Evansville Chargers.
We battled back and fourth but
lost in the end. Score of 17-7.
On Friday April 7, the Ar-rows won in dramatic fashion.
After gaining a 6-0 lead in the
first 5 innings, Pelican Rapids
came back in the 6th inning and scored 10 runs. In the 7th inning
Cody Fults laid down a walk off
squeeze bunt to win.
Ashby Arrow softball team
lost their first two games. The
first game was in WCA, score was 15-6. The second game was
against Brandon/Evansville and
the score was 16-10. The soft-
ball girls had a game on Tuesday April 11, in Hillcrest and the
score was 14-1.
Ashby’s first golf meet was
at Tipsinah Mounds Golf Course
on April 11. The scores were—Ganon Heinrich with 99, Brad-
ley Anderson
with 110,
M i k a h B u r k h a r d t
with 115, and
Cooper Pe-
terson 131. Capt. Jaxon Knick got 135 and Brandon Anderson
got a 151.
At this point, we have started
the second week of trap practice
of the season. The new members are getting a feel for the atmos-
phere of trap, and so has everyone
else who seemed to not be shoot-
ing their best. This proves they are a little rusty with almost no one
shooting more than 40/50 clays.
We will hopefully see an im-
provement in shooting in the next few weeks leading up to the actual
scores that will count towards
making it onto the varsity team.
Good luck to all the Ashby high school trap shooting team.
Let’s get some perfect 50’s this
week.

Samuel Adams was born on
September 27, 1722 in Boston.
He is the son to Samuel Adams Sr., and Mary Adams. He was the
brother to 11 other children but
was one of only three children to
make it past 3 years of age. In 1736 he attended Harvard
and then continued his studies
after graduating. Then, in 1748
he started writing political essays in the local newspaper.
Sam married Elizabeth
Checkley in October of 1749 and
they had six kids. In 1757 she
died after giving birth. He married Elizabeth Wells in 1764.
From 1765 to 1774 he served
as a legislator of Massachusetts
and helped found Boston’s Com-mittee of Correspondence that
provided communication during
the American Revolutionary War.
In 1781 he urged a final break from Great Britain and signed the
Declaration of Independence. His
final post was as a governor for
Massachusetts from 1794 to 1797. He died on October 2, 1803 in
Boston, Massachusetts at the
age of 81.
It’s that time of the year again
when we have to look out for
wood ticks! Do you know anyone who has gotten bitten by a tick
and contracted Lyme’s Disease? It
is a very serious disease that can
cause debilitating symptoms and often cannot be treated if not
caught early.
Most people with Lyme dis-
ease recover completely with appropriate antibiotic treatment.
For those who develop syndromes
after their infection is treated, pain
medications may provide some relief but there is no cure.
Be sure to check yourself for
ticks after being outdoors.

Metallica is one of the big-
gest selling acts in American his-
tory. They were born on October 28, 1981 when drummer Lars
Ulrich and guitar player/singer
James Hetfield got together. After
hitting the opener’s circuit in LA they recorded their first ever demo
No Life ‘Til Leather. The circuit
went crazy for it.
They later made the albums Kill ‘Em All and Ride the Light-
ning. The bands third album Mas-
ter of Puppets hit the top 30 album
charts and expanded their fan base beyond comprehension. Metallica
was unstoppable.
On tour in Sweden, during an
overnight drive the bands’ tour bus skidded out of control and
flipped killing Cliff Burton. Met-
allica has continued to make al-
bums and go on tour even up until 2016 and they hope to continue!
“Th1rteen R3asons Why”
The book is the basis of the
television series 13 Reasons Why, released through Netflix on March
31, 2017.
Clay Jensen, a shy high
school student, returns home from school one day to find that he has
received a mysterious package in
the mail. It contains seven double-
sided cassette tapes used by Hannah Baker, a classmate
who has recently committed sui-
cide. Each tape details a reason
that she killed herself. The tapes were sent to various other people
before arriving at Clay's door.

more.
Hey guys! Again this issue
I’m going to be talking about
places to eat at for prom! A fan-cier, more costly place to eat that
is close to Ashby is SteVelly’s
steak and seafood restaurant in
Battle Lake, MN. On trip advisor SteVelly’s is
rated 4½ stars and their reviews
are excellent. SteVelly’s is known
for their ribs that are coated in their scratch sauce and their wall-
eye.
If you go with your date, but
they want a more laid back meal SteVelly’s also serves simple bar
food such as buffalo wings and
chicken strips. This restaurant has
great service and is sure to be a good place to
bring your
da t e. You
could either bring just your
date or you
could go with
a group of friends, either
way, you’re
sure to have a full and happy belly
when you leave this place!
