Hello? Anybody There? Now It’s Your Turn

As from the 1st September 2018, the date of our next AMMS meeting, we have 357 days to go until QMHE 2019!

Sorry couldn’t resist, especially since the expo this year was yet again another great success! A generous round

of applause to President David de Ryck and his team for all their hard work and dedication over the past 12

months culminating in such a successful event. Thank you 2018 QMHE committee!

Special mentions here to AMMS Brisbane members who served on the 2018 QMHE Committee and in no particu-

lar order Dan Taylor (Secretary), Graham McNamara (Treasurer) and Bruce Hay (Chief Judge). Thank you for

your commitment to the modelling community through your tireless efforts to the QMHE.

And whilst on the topic of QMHE, let me take this opportunity to thank the 15 members who helped with the

QMHE display and official duties this year. Your efforts are always appreciated and this year thankfully was no

different.

We had a great display, primarily dedicated to the 100 year commemoration of World War I, showcasing the out-

standing models of our members. Well done to all concerned – you know who you are, although it would be nice

to see some of our other members involved next year!

And thank you to the same members who also generously gave up some of their time to help with our QMHE du-

ties such as competition judging, competition stewarding & scrutineering, door attendant, and as raffle ticket

sellers. Without your time, support and dedication we would no longer be welcome as a member club of the

QMHE, and the expo itself would not run as successfully as it does although, and yes I am going to repeat myself

here, it would be nice to see some of our other members offering their time and commitment to AMMS and QMHE

next year!

And congratulations to all AMMS members entering the QSMC and particularly to the many who were fortunate /

good enough to take home awards. Well done!

So we come to the part in Brad’s post QMHE newsletter article where he asks the membership for display ideas

and themes for the 2019 Expo. It’s a blank canvas as of right now and here’s hoping that everyone comes for-

ward with great ideas and suggestions. It will be very interesting to see what our members say or whether it will

be the sound of silence as per usual.

For those of you who read the newsletter, many would be aware that I try to come up with fresh topics for my arti-

cles as often as possible, and that many topics seek additional involvement in the form of articles from our mem-

bers. Well it is probably more than fair to say that follow-up articles from members on topics that I have written

about for the newsletter have been virtually non-existent to date. It is quite disappointing really, but it did give me

another idea for the topic of my next article.

I am going to list all of the topics I wrote about that were intended for our members to write follow-up articles on.

I’m sure it won’t take me long to come up with a whole page of topics and it might prove useful to jog a few memo-

ries as well. Heck, we may even get the odd newsletter article out of it, but I certainly won’t be holding my breath!

From the Cupola (cont’d from Page 2)

Until next time, take care, stay safe, try writing an article for the newsletter and happy modelling to all!

Kindest regards,

Brad Littleboy

An Aha! Moment

I recently finally found a foolproof way to use Vallejo Model Air through an airbrush without it clogging after about 15

seconds of operation. The secret? Simple—just add about 20% Vallejo Airbrush Flow Improver to the cup with the

paint. The results are great—a very hard finish with a slight sheen and excellent coverage. No paint drying on the

needle tip whatsoever.

This led me to the next brilliant observation. I like to paint figures, which to date I have primed with Tamiya rattle can

primer (usually white) and finished off with brush applied Vallejo Model Colour or Panzer Aces. The reason I have

used Tamiya primer to date was the issue with clogging outlined above. However the result of this combination is

that I spend nearly as much time touching up paintwork as I do applying it in the first place. The thought occurred to

me that the compatibility between the Tamiya primer and the Vallejo paint may be the problem.

I built another set of figures using Vallejo primer and Panzer Aces brush applied, and the problem has been solved!

A word about the figures concerned. The two sets involved were Tamiya’s German Tank Crew and US Army Tank

Crew, both of which are relatively recent. Both contain six figures each, and the standard is a new level for Tamiya—

approaching DML Gen 2 for quality, and each set has all of the necessary accessories and decals as well.

A view of the competition tables at QMHE. Sorry, but I couldn’t do anything about the figure who is front and centre

Our fearless leader requested that anybody who won any awards at QMHE forward the results to me for inclusion in
