This year our church is 110 years old!
Much has changed in 110 years. In 1906 the average yearly income was $879.
Gasoline cost six cents a gallon, and a loaf of bread cost five cents.
Much has changed at our church. There is no complete record of the number of
people who have come to know Christ as Savior, or have been called to ministry, or
have served faithfully, but from a humble beginning of tent meetings in 19061,
our church has ministered to thousands of people.
It is amazing to stand on the shoulders of those who have served here through the
last 110 years! We are grateful for all that has been accomplished for the Kingdom.
And, to all of you who still worship and serve at GAC, I want to express my sincere
thanks for all you do. And, God willing, we will look to the next milestone coming up
in 15 years – 125 years – if Jesus does not return first.

Children’s Ministry Security Updates
We’ve been working hard to complete the planned security improvements. Last month we moved some
classrooms, and now all of our children are in the Children’s Ministry Wing. This month will be filled with more
exciting upgrades! We will be installing door alarms and touch screen computers with label printers. Our
security procedures will be very similar to what we do during Awana. Here are some of the changes to expect:
Sunday Morning Entrances – Starting Sunday, September 11, there will be three entrances available on Sunday mornings: the
Fellowship Hall, and both Lobby entrances; all exterior doors in the Children’s Wing will be alarmed and for
emergency exit only on Sunday mornings. Please park accordingly.
Bathrooms – the bathrooms in the Children’s Ministry Wing will be used for adults serving in the wing that day
and the children in the wing only. Please continue to use the bathrooms near the Sanctuary.
On the Move Pastor Rigel’s office has been relocated to the office area.
The Resource Room will be relocated to Room 270 off the Fellowship Hall (Pastor Rigel’s former office).
The current Resource Room will become classroom space for children and youth.
New Sunday Check-in There will be two self-serve computer kiosks to check your children in and a manned computer for visitors or
anyone needing assistance. All children must be checked in, and only adults who are serving in the wing that
day or parents accompanying their children will be permitted in the Children’s Ministry Wing. Children and
parents will receive a label. Parents must have their label to pick up their children.
Our goal is to have all the changes in place before the end of September.
We’ll work hard to keep you informed, and we hope you’ll be patient as we flex to grow and change so that we
can best meet the security needs of the youngest members of our congregation. Stay up to date with all our
exciting security news by looking for further updates in your bulletin, announcements, emails, and text alerts.
Worship Night: Worship In The Round
On Tuesday, October 25, we will meet for Worship In The Round. Lead by Pastor Rodney and our worship
ministry volunteers, this will be an evening to sing praises to God.
For the first time, we will be having a children’s worship event at the same time hosted by our youth, in the
Children’s Wing. This is for children up to 6th grade. There will be childcare for infants to age 3. More details to
come in the October Newsletter.
Christmas Candlelight Celebration! 2016
Carols, children, wassail, choirs, friends, candles, family, popcorn, activities, and maybe even a marshmallow
or two!!!
- Mark your calendar for December 4! -
We will be bringing back a portion of the cantata “Believe In Christmas” from last year for our Christmas
Candlelight Celebration this year. This will be a candlelight celebration like none we have ever had. If you
participated last year, you’ll know the music already. If you didn’t sing with us, books and CDs will be available
in October. Watch for additional details about the event in the October Newsletter. Choir rehearsals will be
November 2, 16, 30, and December 1 at 7:00pm.

Moms 24/7 Brunch - Tuesday, September 13
As summer is approaching its end, and we gather backpacks and school lunches, we are excitingly gearing up
for our new season of Moms 24/7. Please plan to join us for two wonderful hours of encouraging one another,
equipping each other, and growing in faith. We will kick off the year with a special brunch on Tuesday,
September 13 at 9:30am in the Nook. Our guest speaker will be one of our World Outreach Conference
international workers, Karen Conkle.
Our second meeting of the month will be held on Tuesday, September 27. Continue to watch Facebook, email,
texts, and handouts for upcoming events. Please be encouraged to join us, even if you have never come before,
come to every meeting, or are somewhere in between. God has gifted all of us as mothers, and we all have been
created with a gift to share with someone else.

GAC 110th Anniversary
Some of you will remember the 100th Anniversary Celebration
we had in 2006. That was a great day! Can you believe it’s been
10 years since then? This fall marks 110 years since our church’s
humble beginnings. What follows here are a few photos from the
church archives and the story of how our church began. There are
many details about that season in 1906; some that are inspiring
and some that sound amusing to our ears today. All of it is typed
exactly as it was written with no corrections made for spelling or
grammar. Please read this memoir, and sense God’s goodness
reaching out to you through their story 110 years ago.

Greensburg Alliance Church 1906-2016 The following is the story of how our church began as it grammatically appears in our archives:
The Greensburg Branch of the C&MA 1906
About the 1st of September, 1905, The Jeanette Gospel Mission was opened. The little band of workers stood
together in love and prayer, and the Lord seemed to lay it upon their hearts, that they must do something for
Greensburg.
They prayed for an opening, and time after time was set for Street meetings, but invariably as the time
appointed arrived the weather proved so unfavorable that it was given up.
It was not God’s time. He wanted more prayer and waiting upon Him, and was teaching lessons of faith, and
dependence upon Him, and early in the following summer, He laid it upon the leaders heart to write to the State
Superintendant, asking that the State tent be placed in Greensburg. Previous to this step much prayer was
offered Unitedly and privately and the band had unanimously & Joyfully agreed to devote $25 then in the
missionary treasury to the opening of the tent, then some addition distributions were made.
And at the close of the State convention at Lancaster about the last of July, Mr Senft our State Supt. Appointed
David McDowell to take charge of the tent and it was shipped to Greensburg, therr came the test.
The town was searched for days but only one suitable location could be found. It was the vancant lot next to
the old Convenanter Church on the corner of Main St. & 4th St. no one could be found with authority to grant the
uses of the ground, at last in perplexity Brother McDowell went in for prayer and council from bro Whiteside. his
advise was to go ahead and put up the tent without human authority, and trust God for results, which all
concerned had great liberty in doing.
Then a new difficulty arose; the lot was pronounced too narrow for the safe erection of so large a tent-but God
willed that it should be there - made the next door neighbor willing that some of the ropes should pass through
the fence to his grounds, and gave wisdom to run the others through the broken windows of the old Church, and
in his own time – about the first of August- the tent was opened lighted by electricity, and a good organ was
rented by the week. The Jeanette mission band paid all the expenses including board of the workers for 2 weeks.
Rev George Davis, of Scranton was the first Evangelist, he ministered about two weeks, and after his departure,
Bro E. J. Richards, State Evangelist, spent some time with us and also Bro James E. Moore, Bro. S. Renicks, &
others.
A delightful & profitable all day meeting was held, Mrs Kitty Woodberry, one of the noblest of the Alliance
Missionaries to China, was present and thrilled the hearts with her addresses.
Dear Bro. Whiteside – the holy man of God from Pittsburg, Moore and others were present, with Bro. Keller
Cramer to lead the singing, and gave gospel messages in song.
As the fall advanced and it seemed time to close the meetings, and for Bro. McDowell, who had been alone in
the work for two weeks or more, to leave for the Nyack Institute. search was made for a suitable hall, but none
was found, Bro. McDowell finally left the tent in the charge of Evangelist Renicks for a week. at the close of that
period God sent Bro. W. W. Morrison to take charge, and after the weather became to cold for outdoor meetings
to continue, the present hall was secured, and Bro. Morrison remained to assure the care of the little flock, and
proved a faithful, patient, wise leader and shepherd until God sent him forth to the Evangelistic field to which he
has called him, and placed Miss Annie E. Giles in charge of the work.
Of the large numbers who, “when they heard the word, immediately received it with gladness,” and were
baptized by Bro. Renicks (in the scriptural way) A number – “when affliction and persecution arose”
“immediately were offended”, having “no root in themselves” – but God has been faithful, consecrated
lives of the leaders, has continued to work and save and sanctify souls for His own glory.

Sunday School - “A Place for Growing… A Place for YOU!”
Our children’s small groups meet for Sunday School at 9:15am (see bulletin board in Children’s Wing for
classrooms). The Jr. High Youth class will meet at 9:15am in Room 130 and the Sr. High Youth will meet at
9:15am in Rooms 250-260. Adult classes are offered at 9:15am and 10:45am. Be sure to note the time that
the class you choose is offered. Pick up a brochure at the rack in the Lobby for details. If you can’t be here
every Sunday, that’s OK - come whenever you can. It’s never too late to join a class. Don’t miss this
opportunity to learn something new and connect with people!
9:15am: The Attributes of God
Teacher: Todd Miller
Location: Room 230/240
One of the things that Jeremiah 9:23-24 teaches us is that God is indeed knowable. The Bible is filled with
writings which reveal His personality, character, and attributes. This course will be looking at six of God's
attributes in an attempt that we not only get to know more about the God whom we serve, but actually get to
know Him more intimately.
9:15am: “Happiness” by Randy Alcorn
Teacher: Donna Dail
Location: Room 225
Christians are supposed to be happy. In fact, we are supposed to radiate joy, peace, and contentment that is
so unmistakable and so attractive that others are naturally drawn to us because they want what we have. And
yet, in today's culture, the vast majority of Christians are perceived as angry, judgmental people who don't seem
to derive any joy from life whatsoever. In “Happiness”, noted theologian Randy Alcorn dispels centuries of
misconceptions about happiness and provides indisputable proof that God not only wants us to be happy, He
commands it. The most definitive study on the subject of happiness to date, this book is a paradigm shifting
wake up call for the church and Christians everywhere.
10:45am: Walk 91: Going Deeper
Teacher: Eric Bartels
Location: 250/260
Excited about our journey through the Bible? Walk 91: Go Deeper will be a class to explore the truths that we
are reading each week and discuss them together. This class will help you to stay connected to the Walk 91
reading plan and help provide insights into each week’s Bible reading. Each week, there will be a time to
interact with the material presented in Pastor Roy’s sermon.
10:45am: “Israel’s Mission” by Ray van der Laan
Teacher: Ken Barackman/Tom Goodge
Location: Room 225
As they stood at the foot of Mount Sinai, the Israelites not only agreed to partner with God by worshipping Him
as King, they also took on a mission: become a kingdom of priests in a prodigal world. This had been God's
plan for His people from the time He called Abraham out of Ur, a mission that would forever characterize
Abraham's descendants and one which Jesus would renew with His own ministry. Follow the rabbi through
Israel and Jordan, scaling mountains in the Sinai and exploring the ancient cities of the Decapolis as you
unpack what it means to be a kingdom of priests today.

Sunday September 25. The order will be placed the following day, so please be on time.
Operation Christmas Child
Each year our Youth Group collects items to pack in shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. Our
donations change from month to month so that we have well rounded shoeboxes to send.
This month we will be focusing on “back to school” supplies and toiletries. Both of these categories have
great sales during the “back to school” season. Pencils, erasers, colored pencils, sharpeners, pens, small
boxes of crayons, small solar calculators, pads, and pencil cases all make great additions to our shoeboxes.
Toiletries needed are toothbrushes, toothpaste, bars of soap, washcloths, combs, and hairbrushes.
Donations may be brought to church on Sunday mornings and Thursday nights.
SY@TP (See You at the Pole) - Wednesday, September 28
On the morning of Wednesday, September 28, thousands of Christian students from all around the nation
will meet at the flag pole in front of their schools before classes begin for 30-45 minutes of prayer for their
schools and local communities. We encourage our students to participate in this great nationwide event.
The times and locations vary from school to school, but it generally takes place about 45 minutes before
school begins. For more information, check out the website: www.syatp.org.

getting dirty in some amazingly fun ways. The total cost for the retreat is $110 per student with a $20

Children’s Ministries
Children’s Ministries “Moving-Up” Day - Sunday, September 4
On Sunday, September 4, the children’s Sunday School classes and Sunday Morning Worship classes will
“move up” to their new classes. Be sure to stop by the Welcome Center in the Lobby or the registration desk in
the children’s wing to complete a registration form for the 2016-2017 year.
Kids Konvention - September 11-14
Our Kids Konvention will be held Sunday, September 11 through Wednesday,
September 14 during our World Outreach Conference. Registration will be handled
slightly differently this year. When you complete the yearly Children’s Ministry
registration form, please sign up for Kids Konvention by marking the designated box.
Registration forms are available at the Welcome Center in the Lobby and the
registration desk in the Children’s Wing.
Volunteers are needed! If you are available to help with Kids Konvention activities or
work in the nursery, please mark the back of your Sunday bulletin information card.
Thank you for your willingness to minister to the young ones of our congregation.
There is something for everyone at our World Outreach Conference! Be sure to check
out page 2 for a schedule of events for the week.
Bible Quizzing
The new quiz season is already upon us. We would love to have new people join us! Bible Quizzing is a disciple-
making tool to encourage young people to study and memorize God's Word and to have fun and fellowship with
other Christian students. Younger students (grades 3-6) would compete in the Junior Division and on only half of
the material. Older students (grades 7-12) have the option of participating in Senior A Division (experienced
quizzers) or B Division (new to quizzing).
Quiz Meets are held once a month with area churches, usually on the first Saturday from October through April.
Practices consist of teaching and devotions from the selected verses and then using the jump seats to practice
jumping and answering questions. Contact Mark or Jayne Obringer (724-861-3548) or the Church Office
(724-837-1122) for more information or to join our team.
Registration for Children’s Ministries 2016-2017
In a continuing effort to keep our records correct and up to date, all parents must complete a new registration
form for their children even if you completed one in the past. The information is kept confidential and is used for
church business, safety, and emergency purposes only. Registration forms are available at the Welcome Center
in the Lobby and the registration desk in the Children’s Wing. Completed forms need to be returned as soon as
possible in order for the new security upgrades to be implemented. Thank you!
Thank You, Jen Conley!
Be sure to take a moment to thank Jen for her ministry to our young ones during the last nine years! Jen is
engaged to be married to Rev. James Turnbull in October, and will be stepping down from her position as Children’s
Director here at GAC. Rev. Turnbull is the senior pastor at Connellsville Alliance Church. GAC’s Women’s
Connection will host a bridal shower to celebrate Jen’s wedding on Saturday, September 24 - see page 5 for details.

Children’s Ministries
Begins September 21
It’s Not too Late to Join our Awana Team!
We are looking forward to another great year in Awana and are excited to welcome Kami Hauser as our
new Awana Ministry Director.
But, Awana cannot happen without dedicated volunteers. Won’t you consider joining our team this fall?
Help is especially needed to assist in classrooms and listen to children recite verses. You may help as often
as your schedule allows - it could be every Wednesday or once or twice a month.
If you are considering helping, but are unsure of what club or position is right for you, contact Kami Hauser,
724-480-3706, or the Church Office, 724-837-1122.
Awana Clubs provide proven, long-term evangelism and discipleship for children. Each age group has its
own Scripture-based curriculum, awards, home discipleship, and fun games to keep them excited about
learning God’s Word. Our program is comprised of three age appropriate clubs:
Preschoolers - Age 3 & 4
In Cubbies, preschoolers have a fun, friendly place to learn about God’s greatness.
There are games, basic Bible memory, and a two-year curriculum that encourages
parents to get involved in their child’s learning. To begin Cubbies your child must be 3
years old before September 1 and potty trained.
Kindergarten through Grade 2
Sparks builds on the material taught in our preschool clubs. It ignites the curiosity of
children to learn about the people and events of the Bible, building a foundation of
wisdom for knowing Christ. Meetings combine learning with fun to create an
atmosphere of excitement. Children love their red vests, the games, and spending
time with leaders and friends!
Grades 3 through 6
This year starts the beginning of a brand new T&T! T&T (Truth & Training) teaches
children the truth of God’s Word and trains them to follow Him and practice His grace.
The goal of the new T&T is simple: offer more opportunities for kids to understand,
retain, and apply what they’re learning in the Scriptures. 2016-2017 introduces the
first of four years of new T&T curriculum. There will also be loads of fun with our team-
oriented games!
Awana begins on Wednesday, September 21. Check-in starts at 6:30pm at the Children’s Ministry
registration desk. Please enter the building through the office entrance. Be sure to complete a new
Children’s Ministry registration form prior to opening night so we can update our computer check-in records.
Forms are available at the Welcome Center in the Lobby or the registration desk in the Children’s Wing.

Pray For Mongolia
Praying is a practical and effective way Alliance people
can help fulfill the Great Commission. Here are some of
the latest updates and requests from our Mongolia
International Workers. Thank you for praying!
Erik and Christina Wahlen are serving as field director
couple for the Mongolian team. Erik is also working
with JB Hecock to oversee the UBean Coffeehouse
and Roasterie.
Continue to pray for the staff at UBean as they serve in
their local fellowships. Pray for opportunities to show
the love of Jesus at work. Pray for protection for their
marriages and their children.
Pray that God will empower the people of the
Cornerstone Church of All Nations (CCAN) to reach out
to the many unchurched and non-Christian expats in
Mongolia.
Pray for the leadership at CCAN (pastors, elders,
ministry leaders) that God will continue to guide them
in fulfilling His plans and purposes for CCAN. Pray for
unity of heart and purpose. Pray for discernment to
seek God’s leading and direction. Also pray for the
volunteer ministries of CCAN and that God will raise
more people to serve in the different ministries of the
church.
Pray for the Sansar Church as they endeavor to follow
God’s vision and calling. The church recently traveled
to Terj National Park for an outdoor worship and
baptism service. Four members of the Sansar Church
and the 16th District Church were baptized. Pray for
those who were baptized as they continue their walk
with the Lord.
Pray for the Seed of Faith Church in Ulaanbaatar to
continue to grow strong and stable as they rely
exclusively on Mongolian leadership.
Praise God for a divinely appointed experience at LIFE
2016! He met each of the eight students and three
chaperones from Mongolia in a unique way. Praise
Him for His provision that they were able to attend!
