To get you started I would like to share parts of a poem read as our devoon at our September Administrave Council meeng. Ann Weems wrote it. Charge Conference Tailgate

Before I begin the core of this article I want to let you know that we have a new web site. It is the same address – but a new space. Sarah Frances Thompson, Rick Thompson, Todd Parker, and Matthew Bishop have all been instrumental in putting the information together, taking pictures, and formatting the new site. Make sure you take a look at it and, even better, make sure you share it with someone. This web site, www.fumcatmore.org, and our Facebook page, First United Methodist Church Atmore, are great ways to communicate with each other and our community. On the Facebook page you can even select a rating and tell people what you think about FUMC Atmore. You can check in when you are here. On the web site the newsletter is there so you can have the newsletter, the schedule, and information with you wherever you are. Take a look as soon as you can! On 16 October following worship we will tailgate for Charge Conference that begins at 2 pm. There are several pages in The Book of Discipline 2012 that guide and direct the meeting of the Charge Conference. In those pages are the reports that will be presented, the election of the officers, and who is responsible for what. And we are ready! At the Administrative Council meeting on 27 September all the reports were presented and voted upon. For me, the bottom line of the Charge Conference is our opportunity to gather together and celebrate. We have a new District Superintendent so we do not know exactly what he will do, but Dr. McClellan will have a devotion and will most likely ask questions about what we have been doing and what we vision for our future. mountains are moved and walls come tumbling down coats are taken off and put on the backs of the naked shackles are discarded and kings and shepherds sit down to life together the anthem is the laughter of the congregation and the offering plates are full of people people go when they skin their knees or their hearts the sea divides for the exiles the ark floats and the lamb lies down with the lion people can disagree and hold hands at the same time lost lambs are found work is a holiday seeds are scattered and miracles are grown home is heaven is a picnic is communion and people break bread together on their knees Where is the church for you and where do you want the church to be in the future? Pray about it. Talk to God and listen. Read some Scripture. Talk to each other. Have ideas. Share ideas. Pray about it. Then come party together at the Tailgate, meet our new District Superintendent, and attend a great meeting called Charge Conference on 16 October. Love, Debora Acts 2.44 “All who believed were together and had all things in common.”

Music Ministry Fall is here and all of our music activities are in full swing! Our Adult Choir, Cunningbells, Cracked Belles, and Children and Youth Handbell Ringers are working hard. We can't wait to share our music with our church family.

The Adult Choir has begun to work on Christmas music. We have some empty chairs to fill, so come join us on Wednesday nights at 6:45. We have a great time.

The Cunningbells will be sharing their music on October 30th. In addition to our usual suspects, we want to welcome back Ben Hardy to our group. He played with us last year, and we appreciate him coming back for an encore! We also have a new addition. Perry Jones has jumped right in and he is doing a great job!

At this writing, we have sixteen children and youth playing handbells this year. They are doing a tremendous job and are planning to play during the worship service on October 23rd. Be sure you don't miss that Sunday!

We are busy this Fall, but having a great time!! Let me know if you or anyone in your family would like to join one of these activities, please let me know.

Missions Evangelism

FUMCA – In the community- and in the world!

SAVE THE DATE - November 19 - Thanksgiving Saturday grocery car t ministry- (yes, it’s a ministry ANY TIME you are representing the church and the Lord…) Look for more details in the November newsletter.

Costa Rica 2017 - It’s time to begin preparation for the 2017 mission trip to Palmares, Costa Rica. At the September meeting, the Missions Committee approved continued support for our relationship-building with Pastor Gustavo and the Cristo Vive church. The 2017 trip is going to be VERY exciting because four churches from the Alabama-West Florida Conference have committed to working in Palmares for 4 consecutive weeks in June!!! That is HUGE when you think about how much can be accomplished! FUMC Atmore will be part of this endeavor… and YOU are helping make it happen. CAN YOU GO??? If you are interested in taking the tr ip to Palmares, the FUMCA week is June 17-24. Approximate cost is $1500, but please don’t let the cost of the trip be your reason for not going if your heart wants to go!!! The successful spaghetti dinner fundraiser helped to defray some of the costs for participants last year, and a couple more ideas are on the table for 2017!! Let me hear from you!

The Costa Rica mission teams have been successful because we have a tremendous, supportive church congregation behind us. Please pray for the other churches--Woodland UMC (Montgomery), FUMC Auburn, and Spanish Fort UMC, as they make preparations along with FUMC Atmore…. in missions, blessings are both given and received… it’s awesome how that works!!!

Dios te bendiga!

Methodist Youth Fellowship

One of our favorite times of the year is finally here - FALL!

October is such a fun month for the youth, between Williams Station Day and

the annual Trunk-or-Treat night. Be sure to stop by the Youth booth on

October 22 to get your face painted for $1.00 at Williams Station Day and don't

forget to swing by the church on Monday, October 31st to fill your bags full of

candy at the Youth trunk. Two great ways

to celebrate the autumn season, and

we can't wait to see you there!

Children - Faithful Quest

Happy Fall! Mark your calendars for two big events this month: Williams Station Day - Saturday, October 22, 9 am-5 pm Trunk-or-Treat - Monday, October 31, 5-8 pm During Williams Station Day, the children will be hosting our Annual Pumpkin Patch and Decoration Station. Please plan to come by and pick out your special pumpkin and support our children. The Decoration Station is available, with the purchase of a pumpkin, for those that would like to personalize their pumpkins and maybe even enter them in the Williams Station Day Pumpkin Contest! We are underway in getting ready for this year's Trunk-or-Treat on October 31st. This is a huge opportunity to have fun with our church family and entire community. We would love for you to join us! Please call me at 912-308-6931 if you would like to participate. Whether you pull up with a car (park by 4 p.m.) or a chair, you are in for a treat. Speaking of treats, we need candy!!! This is also a great way to participate even if you can't actually be at Trunk-or-Treat. We are collecting candy at the church as we speak. If you aren't sure if you have enough candy, throw in another bag. We have run out every year due to the growing number of people coming through! Thank you so much to Meg and Bob Jones for having us at their creek home. The youth, children, and adults had a great day of food, fun, and adventures. Thank you to everyone that helped make this a Back to School Bash to remember!

We LOVE you! Sarah Frances
