PMEA Districts held
With extreme cold weather barreling down on the Glendale community, we all need to
be cautious and understand how important it is to protect our skin from the elements. The
Glendale Education Association Teacher’s Union would like to take a minute to remind our
students, staff, families, and friends that we care about you by listing a few tips on
staying safe during inclement weather.
WEAR A COAT. A sweatshirt is not a coat; it is a layer to be worn under a coat to
protect you from the extreme cold. Coats are designed not only protect you from the
cold, but also to shield you from the wind.
COVER ALL EXPOSED AREAS OF SKIN. This includes the mouth, nose, ears, fingers, and
neck. Frostbite can occur within 30 minutes of being exposed to extreme cold.
DRESS IN LAYERS. Remember you can always take layers off if you get too warm.
TAKE EXTRAS ALONG WHEN DRIVING. Accidents happen. If your car breaks down,
you may be stuck for a while-prepare. Pack an extra pair of gloves, an extra
sweatshirt, and even a warm blanket and leave these in your car. Better safe than sorry.
STAY INDOORS. And finally, if you do not need to travel on cold days, don’t. Try to
avoid unnecessary exposure that can put you at risk. Stay at home, cozy up to a hot
drink, and read a book!
Pictured above are Elam Gates and
Patrick Brown after they competed
in the PMEA Districts competition.

Teacher Spotlight
This month the teacher we chose to spotlight
is Mrs. Kozak. She attended Clarion
University and Indiana University of
Pennsylvania. Mrs. Kozak’s favorite thing
about college was being involved in various
choral groups. When asked if she would
change her major or go back and do it
again, she said “No, the choices I’ve made
make me who I am. It’s hard to think of
doing any other job!” Her New Year’s
resolution is to shed a few pounds and get
healthier. Mrs. Kozak’s favorite holiday is
Christmas. She loves everything about it,
especially watching the joy and wonder of
her daughters during the season. We asked
if she could be a crayon what color would
she be, she chose yellow. Her favorite song
is “Strong Tower” by Kutless. If she could
travel anywhere in the world, she would go
to Israel. Her favorite movie is The Quiet
Man and her favorite book is The Count of
Monte Cristo. She believes that everyone
should read The Bible. Mrs. Kozak’s favorite
phrase is “Walk a mile in someone else’s
shoes.”
