SCOA 2008 OD Rally - Great Success! Third Annual OD Rally - February 13, 2008 This year’s Legislative Rally in Columbia was a HUGE success. The SCOA had 87 ODs attend the Rally. The day began at the Blatt building with a panel discussion of legislators that consisted of Representatives Leon Howard, Thad Viers and Bob Walker. They participated in a lively dialogue of questions asked by fellow ODs. Lt. Governor Andre Bauer stopped in and addressed the crowd on the importance of communication with their legislators and praised the SCOA for their strong presence at the State House. Ms. Bz Giese, with the SC Department of Health and Human Services gave a brief report on Medicaid. Afterwards the group crossed the grounds to the State House and had the honor of being introduced in the SC House of Representatives. We then headed to the Capitol City Club, where 95 legislators joined us for lunch. After lunch each legislator was presented with a gift bag. For those legislators not in attendance, a bag was hand delivered to their office. The only slight inconvenience was we needed more seats at the luncheon to accommodate the crowd of legislators. What a great problem to have! The day ended with a Coding Seminar presented by Dr. Chuck Brownlow. THANK YOU Capitol Consultants for organizing the event and as usual, for being on top of your game. THANK YOU to each OD who took time out of their practice to support our wonderful profession. Our Association is strong legislatively because of your time, efforts and financial support.

Thanks, Lori Donovan, O.D. & James Vaught, O.D.

The weather held for a great turnout.

Dear Colleagues: I would like to take a moment in remembrance of a true asset to the Optometric Community, Dr. Harold Vigdosky. For those of you who did not have the pleasure of knowing our wonderful colleague, he was a gentle giant. A kind-hearted man who exemplified a kindness and sincerity that is often read or heard about, but rarely experience. The world is a better place because of him. He will be greatly missed. Regards, Rosalind Smith, O.D. Dr. Harold S. Vigodsky SPARTANBURG, SC-- Dr. Harold Sidney Vigodsky, 61, of 804 Shoresbrook Drive, died Thursday, December 27, 2007, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born May 9, 1946, in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Nathan and Rebecca Cambell Vigodsky. A graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, GA, Dr. Vigodsky received a Doctor of Optometry degree from Pennsylvania School of Optometry in 1972. He had an optometric practice in Spartanburg since 1972 and had previously served on the Board of Optometry. An avid Clemson University Tiger fan, he had been an IPTAY member since childhood and was the statisti-cian for Clemson University Football and Basketball for over 20 years. Dr. Vigodsky was past president of the Spartanburg County Clemson Club and on the Board of Directors as well. He received the John Fleming- Grover Henry Lifetime Achievement Award and was the IPTAY representative for Spartanburg County for over 25 years. Harold was also a past president of the Spartanburg Touchdown Club. Dr. Vigodsky was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Other than Clemson Football, the Holiday Season was what Harold loved the most. He loved being with family and especially his grandchil-dren who were his pride and joy. Survivors include his wife, Gail Prichard Vigodsky; a daughter, Amy Vigodsky Dillard and her hus-band Cam of Raleigh, NC; a son, Bill Vigodsky of Spartanburg; a granddaughter, Mary Cameron Dillard (5 years old); and a grandson, Nathan Dillard (8 months old).
