During the winter months, it can get so cold you can’t gooutside and play. Here are a few games you can make yourself, for the holidays, or just for fun:

-Word search- Connect the dots- Present delivery

Materials-1 medium card board box.-Some bean bags or a gift box for shirts.-Crayons/markers or wrapping paper.

First, take the medium box and either wrap it in wrappingpaper or use your creative skills to make it look like a chimney.

Next, if you’re not going to use the bean bags, you can cutthe gift box to medium size squares and decorate them tomake them look like presents.

How to play- First, put your chimney a little further than yourarm length. Next, you throw the presents into the chimney andsee how many p resents you can throw in a minute.Happy Holidays!

Look for the Best in Others

By Amogh 5H

I went to an anti-bully assembly at Hill Middle School, as I wasvery inquisitive to listen to the speaker. The program’s namewas Rachel’s Challenge. I wanted to know what was with thisgirl and bullying. Rachel Scott was the first one shot inColumbine High School in April 20, 1999. A month beforeRachel Scott died or got shot she wrote an essay titled, “MyEthics My Codes of Life”. The meaning of the essay which hasbecome Rachel’s Challenge is:

1. Look for the best in others and eliminate prejudice.

2. Dream big.

3. Choose positive influences and surround yourself withpeople that can build you up.

4. Speak with kindness (words can hurt, but can heal morethan most realize).

5. Start your own “chain reaction” of kindness- the smallestgestures and kind words can make all of the difference.

The one that caught my eye the most was eliminate prejudice,as doing that, the other challenges will follow becauseprejudice is making a judgment of someone or somethingbefore having enough knowledge to do so with guaranteedaccuracy. We have to eliminate prejudice, as no one is betterthan another because of color of their skin, where they arefrom, or how they dress. To do this, we have to respecteveryone and to respect everyone we have to be responsiblecitizens. That is what our Rules of Thumb teach at our school. Our teachers are putting us in the right direction for us tofollow it and become a kind person. For more information on

Whoosh! Whoosh! Slide! You feel the cold wind brush your hairback from your face and you hear the sound of your skates on the ice.

That is the feeling of ice skating. Ice skating is a great way to have funwhile getting good exercise in the winter. After your first time on theice, you will always want to come back.

When you ice skate you should have the proper things: ice skates, warm clothing, and a good ice rink. Ice skating is a lot like roller

skating so if you know how to roller skate, ice skating is easier thanroller skating. You might think this is funny but learning how to fallright is VERY important in ice skating. If you fall wrong, you could gethurt badly on the hard ice. You should probably take lessons beforeyou try to skate on your own. For ice skating lessons, I go to AllSeasons Ice Rink and I am in Level Four.

If you are planning to ice skate over winter break and you want togo somewhere not too far from Naperville… you could go to Galena!

You can get to Galena in less than two hours. I would recommendEagle Ridge Resort, it has a wide range of winter sports that you cando. For example, you can ski through a forest. Also, you can rent iceskates and skate on a frozen pond.

Ice skating is lots of fun and you will love it once you try it. Nowthat you know a lot about ice skating you can grab your skates andhead out to your nearest ice rink! Have fun!

Noodles & Company, it’s anamazing place to go to. I know meand my family love going thereand I’m positive that lots of otherpeople do, too. I highlyrecommend the “MediterraneanPesto Cavatappi” and the“Wisconsin Macaroni and Cheese.”Naperville has two locations andone is just down the street fromCowlishaw, by Whole Foods andacross the street from Costco. Ithas indoor and outdoor seating.

The other location that I know of isin downtown Naperville. Theyhave recently added sandwichesto their delicious menu. Noodlesalso sells desserts, such asgigantic rice crispy treats and

humongous cookies. Don’t tell mymom this… but Noodles’ ricecrispy treats are way, way, waybetter than hers. If you dine in, theserving sizes are small andregular. But, if you dine out theserving sizes are small, regular, and square bowls. This is anamazing place for lunch or dinner,

without being too expensive. Gothere as fast as you can! It’samazing. Once you taste theirfood, you will be amazed by howscrumptious it tastes and you’llmake yourself go back!

* One of the questions was,“Do you like it here at

Cowlishaw?” The number of 4 th graders who

replied yes was 20 students. The other 4 replied no.

*Another question was, “Has itbeen a good year for you so

far?”26 replied yes.

0 replied no.

*The last question was, “Doyou have friends or favorite

teachers?”22 replied yes.0 replied no.

The interviews in Ms. Swift’sclass were really good

because they all describedtheir opinion.

One of the main answers forthe first question was “Yes, I

like it here at Cowlishawbecause a lot of people are

nice.” The answers were all creative

and good.

The Top 5 Things To Do OverBreak

By: Alexander, 5JK

Of course everyone’s dying for Christmas to come with all the presentsand fun. But for some families, you just might be bored, or want to dosomething special since there’s two whole weeks of break. If you’re one of those people, you just might want to check out these things that would beexcellent to do over break.

1. Play some winter sports. Lots of children just love to stay indoors andbe on the computer or play video games. If you have a nearby skate rink ora hill to sled on, it’s a really good opportunity to go outside. In fact, probablylots of people are outside playing sports.

2. Take a vacation. Sure, it’s cold and lots of people think of staying home. But looking on the bright side, places like Florida or California are reallywarm. Instead of going to Florida during the summer when it’s really hot, goin the winter when it’s warm. Places like the southeast or the southwest arenice to go during the winter instead of freezing in Illinois.

3. Make projects. If it’s homework or just for fun, winter break is one of the best times to do it. You could get a huge advantage on your homework.Maybe it’s a science project or writing a book. In the morning and afternoon, you could go outside and in the evening do your project.

4. Make gifts. This may sound boring to the kids, but it turns out that kidsare really good at making presents. Just get some ideas from a book. Thepossibilities are endless, and before you know it, you have lots of presentswaiting to be sent.

5. Go shopping and pick your own Christmas presents. Instead of begging your parents to buy a particular toy, just head out to the store topick out what you want. Christmas would be much easier like that.

These are excellent things to do. Try at least one of them if youhaven’t already. Even if you do all this ordinarily, maybe try anotherproject or make a present. Merry Christmas!!!

Amazing Olive Garden Review

By: Sahana 4R

Olive GardenLocation: 620 S State Route 59, Naperville, IL 60540

Olive Garden is one of my favorite restaurants. It is a nice Italian restaurant and locatedat a convenient place. Among the popular antipasti (appetizers in Italian), I like thestuffed mushrooms, most of all. They are made of three different kinds of excellentcheeses called parmesan, Romano and mozzarella, along with clams and herbbreadcrumbs, baked in a mushroom cap.

This restaurant has several Italian soups and salads which taste awesome and arecalled Zuppe e Insalate (soups and salads in Italian). I really like the chicken andgnocchi soup, which is made out of roasted chicken, traditional Italian dumplings, andspinach.

In the main dishes, I always like the spaghetti and meat balls with cheese sprinkled allover them. I have had this dish at several places, but the taste at this place isextraordinary.

Finally, I go for the tasty Triple Chocolate Strata for dessert. It is made up of classicItalian torta layered with creamy mousse and topped with dark chocolate ganache.

Before I end the Olive Garden review, I would like to tell you what an excellent job theydid. The service at this restaurant was fantastic. From the beginning until the end, thewaiter would make sure that the drinks were refilled quickly and the bread came to our

table as soon as we ordered our drinks. All the dishes were delivered to our table in areasonable time. The waiter checked on us often to see how we were doing. It is one of the reasons I like to go to this restaurant often. However, there is a little inconvenienceat this restaurant in getting a table, especially during a peak time like Friday or Saturdayat dinner time. There is no option to make advance reservations. The service is basedon first, come first serve. It is one of the drawbacks for their service.

Overall, I would give five stars for the food quality and service for this marvelousrestaurant.
