My dear prayer partners and readers of IEM Outreach,

Exodus is an exciting account of how God loved and cared for a people who were poor and powerless, a people who had lost their way in Egypt, and their sense of community. God brought them out of bondage, and faithfully and patiently recreated them into a community. Why did God, “come down to rescue?” Here are some reasons:

In Egypt, the Israelites had lost their sense of identity. They were deprived of respect and even basic human rights. Our God of creation calls us by name, like he called Moses, Abraham, Genesis 22:11), Samuel (1 Samuel 3:10) and Saul Acts 9:4). God plays a role in everyone's life because we are distinctively created in His image with distinctiveness.

Our Covenant-keeping God does not change from generation to generation. He called Abraham, cared for Isaac, protected Jacob and was with Moses. God reminds that He is the God of the past, immediate and ultimate.

Pharaoh was jealous because the Hebrews were industrious, hardworking and prospering. So he limited their freedom by oppressing them. Our God of justice and equality works on behalf of the oppressed. He reminded the Egyptians of the value and service of His people. (Exodus 1:8). In the same way, God will not forget our work, our love for Him, the way you help his people.(Hebrews 6:10) There are

1. God of Creation Renews Identity (Exodus 3:4):

2. God of the Covenant Remembers Int imacy (Exodus 3:6) :

3. God Confronts to Refine the evil structure (Exodus 3:7-10):

things done that no one will ever see but God sees in secret and will reward you. This is a promise from Scripture.

“Let my people go” to celebrate is the request made to Pharaoh. God came down to deliver, to bring out and to bring into a place of promise. He had long term plans wanting to be ful l and complete, of real and lasting value and eternal. Let us count the blessing of God to march forward. Recalling His faithfulness brings the freshness of His love and fullness of hope and healing. Man cannot crush God's purpose but His plans will be continued. Amen.

We praise God that IEM is sending missionaries to new regions. In September, Mr. & Mrs. Sanjay Digal moved to serve the Malvi community near Indore, Madhya Pradesh in partnership with New Life Computer Institute(NLCI). In August, Mr & Mrs Milan Munda went to Kunhar Dungi in Jharkhand as an extension of ministry among the HO people. Mr & Mrs Alexander are involved in survey work in Nepal to decide on their mission field base. May the Lord enable them to learn the language and share the Gospel which will eventually result in the transformation of the community. They need your prayers as they serve where there is no Christian presence.

This month we feature 2 of our y o u n g e s t mission fields – R a x a u l (B ihar) and among Hadothi people (Rajasthan). We thank God for the growing partnership with

In June 2012, I completed 75 years of my life. Our daughter Elizabeth wanted to treat us differently so she arranged a visit to Kullu valley in Himachal Pradesh where my wife and I served as missionaries. Reluctantly I agreed, wondering whether we could take the strain. Old friends, Prakash George & Jameela accompanied us from Delhi, Our stay and trips to various mission stations were meticulously planned by the IEM missionary team there.

On my birthday (June 10), I preached at the Kullu church which was packed with people and many came and prayed with me.

The trip to remote Ani stirred warm memories, because this was our last base before we moved to Bangalore in 1972.

Our time with Gajuram and his family was refreshing because we met 3 generations of Christians in that family. The whole church was there, as we together celebrated God's goodness in all our lives culminating in a community meal. We were encouraged to see the good work that is being carried out in Shalwar as well.

We were pleasantly surprised to see the way Manali had changed. Lady Wellington hospital now functions in a multi-storied complex - from a 20 bedded hospital to a 60 bedded one. When we served, there were no native Christians nor church, but today, there are about 1000 believers worshiping at Manali. The ministry in Manali is a joint venture of many organizations, and the Hand of the Lord is upon this ministry. It was truly a dream come true.

What can we say except to thank the Lord for the privilege God gave us to revisit the field after 40 years to see what He has done through all of us, each playing his or her part. I thank God for all who persuaded me and made this birthday very special. I came away realizing that our labor in the Lord is not in vain, which is an incentive to continue to invest more for the Lord.

s Mr. P.S. Thomas and his wife Mrs. Mariamma served in Kullu Valley for a number of years, taking on a leadership role in IEM.

Reflections: Mr P.S. Thomas

We Have Seen The Grace of God!

Timothy Austin

In 2 months, 2012 will be history and for many of us, time has simply sped by because time cannot be stored or saved in our “Time Banks.” Time can be invested positively or negatively in people, programmes or production but one really can't be assured of rich dividends. So, how can we use time productively? How about investing our time in winning souls? That's our biblical mandate, commonly known as the “Great Commission recording for us in Matthew 28: 19ff. In fact, IEM missionaries are doing just that as they relentlessly reach out to regions where people who have never heard the Gospel live and languish without Christ.

Our missionaries are constantly indentifying, surveying and sending missionaries to new regions. In most cases, we respond invitations from churches or missionary organisations who are already working in the district. As always, IEM is not a church but an arm of the church. Our missionaries and ministries are linked to the church.

This month, we focus on 2 of our “young” mission fields- Hadothi in Rajasthan and Raxaul in Bihar. Our ministry among the Hadothi people is replete with struggles and yet, our missionaries continue to persevere. Raxaul sits on the Indo-Nepal border and we work in partnership with Emmanuel Hospital Association's Duncan Hospital. Our missionaries work among the Bhojpuri people. I am sure you will be challenged and inspired as you read the pages that follow.

IEM runs 19 hostels in our mission fields. At the time of writing, an 11-year old girl Prathiba in our hostel in Mayurbhanj, Odisha is critically ill on account of severe liver damage. While doctors have given up hope, we trust our living to God to do His perfect will in her life. We urge you to pray for all “our hostel children!” Our missionary warden's have an enormous responsibility on their shoulders and they need your prayers.

Orders for IEM Publications is gathering momentum. God Alive (studies on the Psalms) by our founder, the Late Rev. Dr. Theodore Williams is our latest addition. It can be used as a devotional or even as expository material on the Psalms. The IEM song book, “Come Let Us Sing” has been reprinted! This book is used during family devotions, prayer meetings and even by churches. Make sure you place your orders quickly.

Do pray for my colleague Mr. Nelson Dhinakaran, Associate Editor who is taking over the responsibility of editing the IEM Outreach newsletter along with his dear wife Shobana.

We value your partnership!

Serving in His Vineyard: Rev. Dr. Arul DossIn any Christian family, it is very difficult to find all the members involved in Christian service in one way or the other. Rev. Dr. Arul Doss who celebrates his 80th birthday on October 27, 2012 has spent 60 years of his life serving the Lord. His beloved wife served the Lord with him until her home call. One of his daughters is an IEM missionary while the other 2 daughters and his son are supporting missionary work. We thank God for Dr Arul Doss' life and pray that God will grant him many more years of service.

A case study on the life of the Apostle Paul brings to light 2 lists which he presented to his readers in the epistles: The first was in Philippians 3: 4ff. It contains the credentials of Saul of Tarsus. The second is in II Corinthians 11:21ff and enumerates what the Apostle Paul, the bond-slave of Jesus Christ, suffered for the Gospel. Tradition says that Paul's father was a well known merchant trader and Saul was his only son. In other words, Saul had a wonderful head start. We know that he became a missionary, church-planter, pastor and theologian par excellence.

He knew that he was a bond-servant of Jesus Christ, with an awl on his ear-lobe –signifying one who has given himself up to the absolute authority of the Lord Jesus Christ. A radical revolution took place on the road to Damascus. Saul of Tarsus, an adversary, now called the Apostle and an ambassador on behalf of Jesus of Nazareth. If we ask him, “Saul of Tarsus, now Paul, bond- slave of Jesus, what was your philosophy of life; what propelled you and kept you always on your feet?” What would his answer be?”

On the way to Jerusalem, Paul called on the elders of the church at Ephesus. He had an open-hearted conversation with them. He said, “And now, compelled by the Spirit (vs 22) I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. I only know that in every city, the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me.” This brings us to his philosophy of life.

Finishing the Race

In Acts 20:24, Paul said, “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me of testifying to the Gospel of God's grace.” What Paul meant was, “I do not consider this life of mine so precious that somehow it should be prolonged as far as possible at any cost.” For him the span or length of life was not the critical factor. It does not depend upon what we get out of life – recognition, position, authority, popularity and so on. Rather, it depends on what we put into life, how we invest our lives and how we spend our time.

After listing his credentials in Philippians, Paul declares, “But I consider them dung, rubbish,” and then he adds, “that I may know Him.” Did not Paul know Jesus Christ? I believe Paul's answer would be, “The more I know Him, the more I journey with Him and greater is my passion to know Him.”

In Philippians 1:21, Paul says, “for to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.” He explained this in II Corinthians 5:9, “So we make it our goal to please Him whether we are at home in the body or away from it.” This means, “Whether I'm alive or dead or even in the process of dying, I want to please my Master.” In II Timothy Paul says, “For I am already being poured out like a drink offering and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

Bible Study: Bishop Mathew

It is Finished!

5 October 2012

(We're sure that you've been blessed after reading the synopsis of the Bible studies delivered by our main speakers Bishop C V Mathew and Mr. C.B. Samuel at the Missionaries' Family Conference at Chennai in May 2012. In this Bible study, Bishop Mathew meditates on Jesus' last words on the Cross, “It is finished.” We have to walk as Jesus walked, weep as Jesus wept and also to finish as Jesus finished. When we finish our race we should be able to say, “Father, my job is finished.”)

Completing our Task

S h e d d i n g t h e b a g g a g e o f unforgiveness

Paul tells Timothy in II Timothy 4, “Whatever duty the Lord has given you, discharge it. Complete the task given to you.” In Philemon 1, Paul says, “Tell Archippus see to it that you complete the work you have received in the Lord.” In John 4:34, Jesus said to His disciples, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work.” In Luke 4:43, the people were encouraging Jesus to stay on in their town. He said, “No, I must move on. I am sent to proclaim the Gospel, and I must go and visit other towns also because that is why I am sent.”

Finishing the race that is set before us and completing the work assigned to us, should be the heart of our life's philosophy. The longer we live may not necessarily be the better. The shorter we live may not necessarily be the worse. The Apostle Paul knew the secret of this. In Acts 26:19,20 he says to King Agrippa, “So then King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven.” Paul was talking about the task given by his Master- that He should present the mystery of the Gospel to the Gentiles.

If we want to lead meaningful lives, we should arrive at the logical end of completing our lives successfully. This

includes having right relationships with others. In his letters Paul says, “I always try to keep my conscience clean before God and before men, vertically and horizontally.' If we want to keep our conscience clear we need to be right with God and right with one another. The final statement of Jesus on the Cross was, “It is finished.” However, this statement is uttered in a specific context. In Luke 23:34, Jesus said, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” Without forgiving or being forgiven, there is no clean and clear conscience.

When we journey through life, we get hurt and we hurt others as well. When we carry baggage, we cannot run swiftly and finish the race well. Forgiveness is the only way by which we can travel light through life's journey. If there is one broken relationship, there is deadweight that will hold us down. If there is bitterness in any corner of our hearts, it will poison our beautiful lives and spoil our wonderful race.

C. T. Studd said, “Only one life, it will soon be past. Only what is done for Christ will last. And when I am dying how happy I will be if the lamp of my life has been burnt out for Thee.” The last drop of kerosene in our life should be burnt out for the Lord. Along with Christ can we say, “Father forgive them” and “It is finished!”

On the Snow-strewn trail…At the time of writing, our missionaries Luke and Pynshai are on their summer ministry inside Lahaul valley at a height of between 8,000 and 14,000 feet above sea level on the slopes of the mighty Himalayan range. The great Moravian missionaries set foot in this place years ago!! Presently we have contact with 242 families here.

Our missionaries covered 49 villages and met with 92 families during the last 2 months. The contacts were given New Testaments and other literature in Hindi. In addition, they were also given CDs and VCDs. The Gospel was shared in varied contexts, according to the level of understanding of the families and individuals and according to their needs. Many families were prayed for and invited to accept the Lord Jesus as their personal Saviour. Kindly pray for a breakthrough among the Lahauli people.- Luke V.Titus

Let me rekindle your passion by sharing my experiences

God's enterprise is always accomplished by a team. Being a co-worker is always a blessing. Jesus' mission strategy was to send His disciples 2 by 2! The success of their ministry and ours is based on our relationship with each other. Some people possessed a genuine commitment for missionary work, went through missionary training, had a magnificent send off by the supporting church but sadly, left the field without telling anyone because they were unable to cope with loneliness. Co-workers are God's gift to us. I learnt the preciousness of this truth the hard way.

When I went to the mission field, things were not easy. My very presence became a threat to my senior partner and we developed friction. Yet, we went together to the villages for ministry as though we were brothers living in harmony! People saw our external activities and assumed that we were doing a wonderful ministry. I knew how wonderful my ministry was! All our efforts were useless and fruitless. We wasted 4 long years before we reconciled with each other. After that we saw God's blessing upon our ministry. Disagreements and friction may arise but we need to settle them as soon as possible.

Secondly, Jesus calls us His “co-workers and brothers” not “juniors!!” If the Master and Elder does so, how much more do we need to emulate this practice amongst ourselves! The gap between seniors and juniors is a man-made hierarchy and a curse especially in Christendom. Paul, a veteran missionary with vast experience addressed his team member Timothy as his co-worker and not a junior! As a pioneer missionary, I served the Lord in the Koya field for many years alongside many brothers and sisters from different regions and cultures. I recall the parable of the workers. Though they joined work at different times of the day, the reward was the same. It does not matter who comes first or last, what really matters is how we work for Him. All are accountable to the Master. Appreciation comes from Him, “Well done, good and faithful Servant.”

Many missionaries sacrifice their personal devotion with the Lord even as they serve Him. Prayer can take second place. This is sad. I learnt the importance of prioritizing prayer when I was on my bed of sickness in 2009-10. One afternoon, while I was praying to the Lord, the Spirit of the Lord dealt with me directly. He said, “Deva, you have not spent quality time talking to me.” I was disturbed and puzzled. When I calculated all the prayer times in my life, I had to humbly confess, “Lord I have failed.” Our Lord is gracious to forgive our sins and shortcomings if we truly confess to Him. When I confessed my failures He forgave me and asked, “What are you going to do now?” I resolved before the Lord to spend more time talking with Him. Now, I spend time in prayer, enjoying His fellowship.

(The Apostle Paul's epistles are replete with teaching from the Scriptures as well as from his own experiences. What a wealth of ins igh t indeed! Former IEM miss ionary, Dr. D Devagnanavaram overcame physical handicaps to translate the New Testament into Koya. It was, by no means an easy road. In this letter to his fellow missionaries and indeed to all our readers, “Devanna” as he is affectionately called writes straight from the deepest recesses of his heart. It's time now to listen in and learn…)

Missionaries can fall ill

Devanna

Usually, we enjoy good health during middle age and we like to achieve something for

God. Good health is a blessing from the Lord, but as we grow older, we may not enjoy the

same blessing. While translating the Koya New Testament, I suffered 2 setbacks in

health so I could not reach my target. When sickness strikes it jeopardizes our plans and

our drive is dampened. But God provides added grace at such times. Presently, I am

confined to one place and am dependent on others for everything. I cannot use my

hands and legs. But it does not mean that I cannot do anything for the Lord. He has given

me an active mind and speech which I can use for Him and that's what I'm doing now.

Sickness is unavoidable in our lives. At the same time, we need to keep our bodies and

minds healthy, because the Spirit of God dwells in us.

I hope that these valuable insights will encourage you!

God bless you!

Streams in DesertWhen we arrived at Digod village in Hadothi field on November 10, 2008, I had a severe stomach pain. We did not know where to go!. After a 5-day stay in hospital, I became well. This was the first discouragement in our lives. Secondly.on June 16, 2009, we met with an accident . Meanwhile, there did not seem to be any fruit through our medical work and free tuitions for over 2 years. Thirdly, there were no openings for the Gospel. I wrote letters to our supporters and friends pleading with them to pray for us. The Lord opened a door. One day, a girl named Chandrakala asked us to start tailoring classes. She visited our home and heard God's Word. However, my wife was in the family way and it was very difficult to teach tailoring. So we cast our burden on the Lord and started tailoring classes on September 15, 2010. Before classes we studied the Bible had a time of prayer. As a result one of the students, Sonu, led all the students to the Lord. Her sister Sheela who was barren for 7 years, started to pray to Living God and was blessed with baby girl in 2011. Chandrakala wakes up at 4 am to read the Bible. One day, she was beaten by her brother and warned not to read the Bible. Her brother scolded us very badly. He spread false rumours in the village about her sister. Hearing this, people stopped coming to our house. We were forced to move to a new place called Anta. One day Chandrakala informed us that that the people who opposed us were admitted in the hospital. She asked us to pray for them. Now many people have come to know Good News after watching the `Jesus film,' free tuition and reading the New Testament. Hallelujah!

Alexander Duff was born on April 25, 1806 into a God-fearing family in Moulin, France. His meditative nature and evangelical surroundings fostered in him a deep reverence for God. Duff's father who was interested in missionary work (which was rare in those days) would show him pictures of the Indian lifestyle and religious rites.

At college, he was greatly influenced by Dr. Chalmers, an intellectual godly professor who accommodated many missionaries on furlough and would challenge the student body about the great need to evangelize the “heathen” world. Duff and his close godly friend Urquhart started the St Andrews University Missionary Society with the help of Dr Chalmers. The sudden passing away of Urquhart as he prepared to go to China affected Duff. Writing to his parents he said, “What if your son should take up his cloak and go as a missionary” His parents agreed.

When Duff read an article on India and the appeal sent by Dr. Inglis urging missionaries to be sent for educational missionary work, he was challenged to work in India. He offered himself saying, “Here am I, send me. The work is most arduous, but is of God, and must prosper; many sacrifices, painful to flesh and blood must be made, but not any correspondent to the glory of winning souls for Christ.” And thus, in October 1829, Duff and his wife Anne Scott Drysdale left England and reached Calcutta on May 1830 after suffering 2 shipwrecks and losing nearly all their personal property.

Duff wanted to penetrate the top intelligentsia of India who could then influence their own kindred. Duff wanted to overcome the challenge of ignorance and agnosticism through the liberating TRUTH of the Gospel, using the medium of Christian Education. He was certain that the way to build the nation lay in responsible missionary work in education so he worked for higher education in English. This influenced the British government to pass an important Bill recognizing the need to give modern western education in English in India. However, he also gave importance to a network of vernacular primary schools. The people who came to Christ through him, though few (33 to be precise) founded eminent Christian institutions and led to the establishment of several protestant colleges in India. Duff was also instrumental in founding the University of Calcutta.

While on furlough, he constantly challenged his countrymen about the need to evangelize the great masses of India. Oswald J Smith in his book records Duff's appeal made during his last furlough to Scotland. “Standing before the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church greatly appalled by its indifference towards missions, Duff pleaded, ‘When Queen Victoria calls for volunteers for India,' he exclaimed, 'hundreds of young men respond; but when King Jesus calls, no one goes.' Then he paused. Again he spoke. 'Is it true,' he asked, 'that Scotland has no more sons to give for India?' Again he paused. 'Very well,' he concluded, 'if Scotland has no more young men to send to India, then, old and decrepit though I am, I will go back, and even though I cannot

preach, I can lie down on the shores of the Ganges and die, in order to let the peoples of India know that there is at least one man in Scotland who cares enough for their souls to give his life for them.”

In a moment young men, all over the assembly, sprang to their feet, crying out, "I'll go! I'll go! I'll go!" After the famous missionary passed on, many of those same young men found their way to India, to invest their lives as missionaries, as a result of the appeal God had made through Dr. Duff. I'll Go!

Seventy percent of the Kondh people who speak the Kuvi language are illiterate. There are 2 Churches and 5 Worship Groups among them. Ninety percent of the believers are women and 50 percent of the men are illiterate. The challenge is to make them literate.

We long to have a Mother Tongue Literacy programme but do not have enough people to help us. We got a few copies of the Kuvi – Primer, “Let us Learn” produced by Utkal Christian Council. It was reprinted with permission and dedicated on September 5, 2012 by Rev. S. Kendruka. The prepared Teaching Aids were dedicated by Mr. John Mathai, Secretary for Field Ministries, IEM. Mrs. Santhilatha Kolleska, Block Chairperson, Laxmipur presided over the function. We conducted a Training programme for Literacy Teachers and writers known as “Writers cum Literacy Teachers' Workshop” from September 1 to 5, 2012. Twenty-two participants came from 7 villages. Mr. C. Rajkumar, Finance Secretary, IEM was the resource person. The trainees were exposure to methods of teaching and the available materials. The literacy programme needs to be implemented in 7 villages. We hope our believers will be able to read the Bible within 2 years.

Geared Up Field Visit – On 28th thirteen of us from Kerala went to visit Chitradurga mission field in Karnataka. In the field we were received by Mr. Shibu Isaac. We spent three days in visiting different villages, we could see people have been transformed by the Gospel. We joined to worship our Lord with them and listened to their living testimonies. It was encouraging and challenging. We returned with new vision to share this ministry with others and decided to take an active part in reaching the unreached. During our ministry among the Garasia people, when we conducted a survey in Udaipur among the Hadothi people, we recognized the need for Bible translation in Hadothi. On June 8, 2007, I moved to Baran district to pioneer the work. Mr & Mrs. Sakaram joined me in November 2008.

I learnt the Hadothi language and culture during my stay in Digod tehsil. Through a pastor, God opened a door for evangelism in Ranodiya village, 45 kilometres from Digod. After my marriage to Kanagamani, we settled down in Ranodiya with our 4-month old son. Looking at the condition of the children here, we felt the need to start a tuition centre. Many children flocked to the centre and were benefited. After 3 years, we started an Anganwadi day-care centre on July11, 2011 in Ranodiya in the presence of its leaders. Here, children were taught Hindi and English alphabets and number work. Children pray every morning and also during mealtimes. The teachers are believers from the same village and are good both in teaching and witnessing for the Lord. This serves as a great tool to generate awareness for education.

From the beginning, opposition has been our constant companion. Initially, finding a house was very difficult. Our motives were questioned by the police. Fearing their god's fury, village folk asked us to vacate. Anti-Christian elements branded us as anti-nationals and were bent on raising a stir against us. They threatened the owners of the day-care centre with dire consequences if they favored. We were even accused of bribing the people in order to convert them!

But God worked amazingly in and through all these. Though we are in a “desert land” our God has not deserted us!!

The day-centre is a good contact point for evangelism. Prakash*, a student attended our regular Sunday worship and put his faith in the Lord. His mother followed suit after she was miraculously healed from her ailment because her son prayed for her. Another student's mother was delivered from an evil spirit. She accepted the Lord and presently works as a cook in the day- care centre. Subsequently, her husband who witnessed another healing has also started helping us.

By God's grace, a few have openly confessed the Lord and others are ready to follow. Twenty people are attending our Sunday worship service regularly. Many ailing people are healed by prayer. We have worship centres in 3 villages and contacts in 10 villages. Two Hadothi believers have been trained for translation and evangelism. A believing couple are looking after our day care centre.

Testimony: Mrs. Kanagamani Senthil

I began my ministry as a missionary teacher with Navajeeva Seva Mandal(NSM) in

Gujarat for 7 years. However, I had a desire to serve as a pioneer missionary. God

answered my prayer. After I married Senthil, who was already working in Rajasthan, we

moved to Hadothi field.

My heart was burdened to pray earnestly for the souls in Renodiya village, especially for

women. I couldn't do much because I had to care for our little son, but I prayed

consistently and invested my time in learning the Hadothi language and studying their

culture.

Many women want deliverance from demon possession, but because they fear their

husbands and the anti-Christian sentiments in the village, they hesitate to believe.

Opportunities for ministry come through our day-care centre. We are also using New

Tribes Mission's Firm Foundations Series to talk about the love of God in a systematic

manner. Many women have expressed their desire to learn and have requested me to

teach them. I want to use my gift of teaching as a tool to share God's love. Do pray for

me!

(October is a month of change! Winter winds will soon blow across our landscape, sending people scurrying to the comfort of their cosy homes, especially in the northern and north eastern regions of our nation. Preparations for Christmas gather momentum. On the mission fields, missionaries and believers are making plans for Christmas as well. This season is one time when everyone wants to see and hear the sights and sounds that make up the “celebration.” As you prepare for Christmas, spare a few minutes every day to pray for and in some way, participate in the celebrations in our

Zonal FC meeting

We have conducted the field FCs' meeting of the North East Zone in the month of July

trains were cancelled, every FC could come and we could have a successful meeting.

Every FC went back to his/her respective place with real joy knowing their role and

they were really refreshed in their mind to work with efficiency

Bihar: It is situated in the eastern part of India, with the Himalayan country Nepal to its

north and the States of Jharkhand, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh bordering the other

sides. It is home to more than 90 million Indians. North Bihar is affected every year by

flood. The rivers crossing over from Nepal, flood the fertile flat cultivable lands of the

inhabitants. The repeated recurrence of floods keeps the Northern areas of Bihar devoid

of all development. This makes a large population remain underprivileged and yearning

for sustenance and social uplift. In the East Champaran district, the Schedule Caste and

Backward class population is the majority, with a few high caste groups dominating the

large whole. The dominating classes have lands and pukka houses of their own, while

the majorities are landless and own make-shift kucha houses of bamboos and mud.

There is a small Muslim population too.

In the late 1920s, Dr. Cecil Duncan, a Scottish Surgeon opened

a clinic in Raxaul under a tree near the Nepal border. In the year 1930, Dr. Duncan, the

man of God with a great vision, established a 30-bedded hospital, to reach out with the

transforming Gospel to Nepal. Now this Hospital is serving the Lord to a needy

generation struggling with natural disasters, myriads

of diseases, social divide of casteism and bound in

the drudgery of superstition. The Duncan Hospital

invited IEM to come and work along with.

In the year of 2007 August, there was a flood disaster

in the East Champaran district of Bihar. The IEM has

done a detailed flood relief work in August 2007 in

partnership with the Duncan Hospital. The missionaries of IEM saw the people seem to

be quite open for the Gospel. God has guided IEM and the leadership of the Duncan

Hospital to agree upon a survey to be conducted with a view to place IEM missionaries to

evangelize and plant churches in the areas where the Hospital is doing community

health work. The IEM team consists of Rev. Dinesh Patel, Rev. Ramesh Elanchenzhian

and Rev. Luke Titus who arrived in the Hospital campus on 18 th February 2008 night.

The team had a discussion on 19th February 2008. Hence the survey was done in

partnership with Duncan Hospital. They agreed to send a missionary couple on June

2008.

Raxaul field is not a new field. IEM had a place many years ago. It has been closed such

many years. IEM’s first missionary SIMON BARU was placed from 1989-1993. Then the

baton of the ministry was passed on to Mrs. & Rev. Joychandra Singh. They landed in the

mission field on July 27, 2008 as pioneer missionaries. They settled down in the place

where Simon Baru stayed and learnt the language. That is how the field re-opened. The

first baptism took place on August 5, 2009. Six people from Triveni village were given

Baptism at Nepal River.

Serving Christ is My BusinessMy wife and I come from a Hindu family. I accepted the Lord in April 1992 while my wife

Aquino decided to follow the Lord Jesus in October 13, 2007. Later, we committed our

lives for the full-time ministry and asked the Lord to send us

to the most difficult place!

In 2008, we finished our OTI training and were sent to work

as pioneering missionaries in Bihar. We accepted the high

calling from the Lord and landed in Bihar on July 27, 2008

not knowing Hindi or the target language.

The first statement we heard when we arrived was, “Bihar

is known as the graveyard of the missionaries and

Missions!” Many people frightened us. We had a tough time

dealing with people initially. We resolved not to return from Bihar

until and unless the Cross and Christ's church were planted.

We picked up the local language within 6 months and began

preaching in Bihari language. Our first fruit was from Triveni village.

Six people openly confessed their faith on the banks of the Nepal

River on August 5, 2009. The Lord is using us wonderfully to bring

many souls to His feet for His glory. We are burdened to take up a Bihari Bhojpuri Bible

translation project. Please pray for us. Our prayer is, “The service of Christ is the

business of my life. The will of Christ is the law of my life. The presence of Christ is the joy

of my life. The glory of Christ is the crown of my life.”

Testimony of Evangelist Ramvilas Ram

I was born and brought up in a Hindu family. Five years ago, I was addicted to smoking,

tobacco and alcohol. Because of drinking alcohol, I had many problems like gastric

problem, cold and cough. I spent all the money which I earned from the work instead of

helping the family. I had bad company which made me

steal things from other houses. I did not have peace in my

heart. One evening I drank so heavily and fell down on the

way. My parents took me to the hospital since my health

condition was so serious. Many thought that I would die.

The Doctor in the Hospital gave me a tract and

encouraged me to trust in Jesus. I just read the tract and

began realizing that Jesus is the only true and living God. I

prayed to Jesus that “Lord please heal me from my

sickness so that I will serve you for my whole life.” The Lord had delivered me so

miraculously from my sickness. I accepted HIM as my savior on 8th November 2008. I

began to read Bible regularly and grow in HIM daily. I commit my life to Jesus that I will

serve Him till the end of my life.

The Testimony of Evangelist Munna

I was born and brought up is a low caste Hindu family called Paswan. I was a drunkard and dancer before I accepted the Lord. I have five children. We were so poor that we did not have any plot, field and money. I was unable to take care of my family because I was in a dancing job. I didn't give much attention to the family. In 2007 my wife was suffering from epilepsy. She was very serious. Due to her sickness, we had to spend a lot of money that was borrowed from others at interest. It was tough time that we had ever gone through in life. Every day we used to cry for help. There was nobody to give us a hand. One day I was sitting on a bridge and crying for my beloved wife thinking that if she died who will take care of the children. While I was there, I met a man by the name of Bharat who was kicked out from his home because of his faith in the lord Jesus. He asked me what happened. I told everything about our struggle that we were going through. He told us to come to the church and offered prayer for my wife. Many people prayed for her. By God's grace she was wonderfully healed from her sickness. By seeing this wonderful miracle of Jesus, we confessed our sins and accepted the lord as our personal savior in 2008. I gave up all bad habits. We were baptized in 2009 at Nepal River. Since then we committed our lives to serve the Lord.God has given a wonderful gift of singing. Now I am serving the Lord as an Evangelist along with the missionaries. It is our commitment that till our death we will serve the Lord faithfully.

We will serve the Lord…I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal savior when I was in standard 12.through the ministry of Union of Evangelical Students of India. Soon after, I began attending EU prayer cells and other meetings. God's word became the foundation of my spiritual life. I was decided to become a missionary during a mission education and exposure training camp held at Kolli hills in Tamil Nadu. The Lord confirmed His call through my daily quiet. My heart was burdened for the North India and I came to Bihar after joining IEM. God assured me saying, “I will build my church.” (Matthew 16: 18). He is using us to lead many to His saving knowledge. My wife an I have a little boy called Alastair Singh. We will serve the Lord faithfully till our last breath.

Testimony – A. Andrew, Raxaul, Bihar

God's ways is higher!Though I was brought up in a Hindu family, I accepted the Lord as my personal Savior on August 15, August 1989. Later, during a convention conducted at Dalsingpara Bethel church, IEM General Secretary, Dr. Theodore Srinivasagam preached from the Word of God and I decided to serve the Lord. On February 11, 1992, I a dream where Jesus said to me, “Open your Bible and read Psalm 45:7 aloud.”Both my wife and I came to the Lord through the ministry of IEM missionaries. We served the Lord among the Gadaba people for five years. In 2008, we were driven out of the mission field by anti-Christian people. Later we moved to Raxaul, Bihar to work among the Bhojpuri-speaking people on February 20, 2009. God is using us mightily. Our Vision is to see 4 Worship Groups established, 5 Local leaders appointed, 10 villages reached with the Gospel and 20 believers openly confess their faith in the Lord. Please do pray for us!

Our ministry in Robertsganj started in 2005. Local people warned us not to preach anything contradictory to what they believed. Our method of reaching out is to help meet people's needs by conducting medical camps which benefited many poor families. We arranged to dig bore wells in 5 villages in partnership with Sampurn Development, India. On January 28, 2007, believers Mr. Mahender and Mr. Nanda openly confessed their faith in the Lord. Later Mr. Mahender expressed his desire to serve the Lord among his own people and was appointed as a helper. Till today he is faithfully doing the ministry. Now there are 40 baptized believers and 4 worship groups in Kargara, Baskeria, Shalkhan and Myorpur. There are 3 evangelists Mr.Mahender, Mr.Rambriksh and Mr. Babunder.

In May 2011, opposition drove us out from Kargara village. However, God helped us to continue our ministry in the villages around Robertsganj. He enabled us to start a new ministry in this place to serve Him among needy children by starting a Hostel Ministry. Right now we have 10 children who attend St. Xavier School. Please uphold these dear children in your prayers because they need to adjust to the

new standard of education.Nehhao Doungel , Robertsganj, Uttar Pradesh

The people in Singhasini village lost everything in a fire accident. Thanks to the aid rendered by Evangelical Fellowship of India Commission on Relief (EFICOR), we provided utensils, clothing, food and other essentials to the people so that they could start their lives all over again. I also had the opportunity to share the Gospel. The local police, the head of the village and the CEO of Ramgarhwa were informed about the distribution. Dr.Matthew George, the manager of the Emmanuel Hospital Association(EHA)'s Duncan hospital and Rev. Bagh, pastor of the Duncan Church were also present during the distribution of relief. One beneficiary exclaimed, “My name is Indra Mahto. I have 3 children. In the fire disaster all my things were burned. The government and other people gave rice and wheat but there were no vessels to cook the food. My wife and I were very happy to get these items. I thank the brothers who helped us. Your Jesus is really good and kind. You people are real friends for us.” We request you to pray for a breakthrough in this field. Some have expressed their desire to come to Church. Pray that those who heard the Love of Jesus will respond positively.

Your Jesus is Really Good and Kind(Sometimes disaster strikes us suddenly! In a minute, life changes, leaving the victims traumatized, often beyond recovery. In such times, our helping hands speak volumes. Rev. Joy Chandra Singh, our missionary in Raxaul shares one such incident.)

Mr VT Samuel joined IEM as an Area Secretary in 1989 in an honorary capacity. He joined IEM as a full-time missionary in 1995. The Lord blessed his efforts and he shouldered many responsibilities including that of State Secretary for Maharashtra and eventually led the church ministries team in North India. His contribution was phenomenal and he continues serving even after retirement … because in God's service there is no retirement! Here's a brief summary of his faith adventure in his own words.

While working abroad, 2 Bible verses influenced my decision to leave my lucrative job, “But now, when may I do something for my own household?” (Genesis 30:30-b), and “Go back to your country and your relatives, and I will make you prosper” (Genesis 32:9-b). Mr. Gladson Anchan, a senior IEM missionary based in Mumbai challenged me to get involved in missionary work. My close association with IEM missionaries Mr. P.S. Thomas and Rev. T.V. Thomas - their sacrificial life and commitment also influenced my decision.

God honored my commitment in spite of discouragement. Area Secretaries became active, more churches and families supported the Mission. Missionaries joined the team. Missionary Conventions in different language groups like Malayalam, Gujarati , Kannada, Telugu and Marathi Conventions were conducted. Contributions increased as well.

My strategy was to do correspondence in the mornings and ministry in the afternoon. This was my practice throughout the year. I established close relationships with supporters and Area Secretaries and became a part of their family. I cherish these relationships even today.

When I decided to join IEM, my mother was concerned about the future of my children. She asked me, “How will you survive in a city like Mumbai?” I said, “God will take care of them.” My son became an engineer. He got his first appointment as Scientist/Engineer with ISRO and is working with VSSC Trivandrum. He started supporting a missionary from his first salary onwards. My daughter became a Dentist. We praise God for all His faithfulness.

I can share several testimonies of God's faithfulness in the life of our supporters – how much God blessed them physically and spiritually when they started to honor God in their life by giving for God's work. Our God is a faithful God. His promises are for ever!

There is NO RETIREMENT in God's work. Please continue to pray for us and our ministry.
